The art style and fundamental plots are very similar. Young boy searching for his "missing" older brother. Joins forces with another guy to find his brother. Some "enemies" become friends and a "mysterious" organisation is involved. That being said the characters couldn't be less alike. Nai and Ritsuka are basically polar opposites and so are Gareki and Soubi. Both are fantasy, mystery and even a little tragedy. One of the biggest differences between the two is the lack of subtle shounen-ai hints in Karnival which are present in Loveless. Although, to me, this is sorely missed, I am still feeling very intrigued by the story and hope the similarities between the two titles holds up when it comes to quality, as Loveless is certainly much loved! <3
