Fairy Tail

If Gurren Lagann were about mages and was released weekly, it would be called Fairy Tail. The overall feel for both of these shows are very similar. They both deal with the believe in me who believes in you thought process, there is a lot of screaming and fist fighting, for example, in one fight, Gray sets aside magic to settle the fight like a man would (kind of like Simon vs the Anti Spiral in the latest Gurren Lagann movie). As a side note, Simon the digger's seiyu, Kakihara Tetsuya, voices Natsu in Fairy Tail. So, I'll say it again, Fairy Tail is weekly Gurren Lagann except with mages.

Katanagatari

The basic premise of both shows are very similar. A boy/man secluded form society who has not really seen another human besides his grandfather/sister. Also, his teacher died last year some time, who happened to be his grandfather. Anyway, an eccentric girl comes to his whereabouts and asks him to help her on her journey to collect the dragon balls/swords. Adventure ensues. Shichika is rather similar to Goku in the respect that he doesn't really see the need for more than one outfit, he cannot recognize people so he resorts to touch, smell, and taste, and he is also assumed to be really dumb except for when it comes to fighting. Oh that brings me to another similarity, they both fight with fists rather than weapons. To be fair... i guess Goku uses a nyoibo (magical staff) too. Over all, Katanagatari has a lot of similarities to Dragon Ball, but is different enough to not be a rip off. I would say that its the "thinking man's" Dragon Ball.

Both stories have to do with the line between "Good" and "Evil" in the respect that in both stories, someone is having someone else killed seemingly randomly. In Ikigami its the government, in Death Note, its a kid who wants to be the Government, or a God.
