Hi again! I finally finished watching all your recommendations. I'm sorry this took so long! What I said about "Tamako Market" back in January still stands. There were some episodes I liked more than others. But all of them made me smile at least once. The TV series was super cute and pretty much exactly what I expected going into it. It's worth noting that I saw the show and film twice (subbed and dubbed) to get the whole experience, let's say. I don't do that with every anime I watch, so this was an extra fun time. 😊

I think "Love Story" is the franchise highlight. I particularly enjoyed how Tamako sorting through her feelings toward Mochizou tied into the idea that our lives and relationships with people change as we get older. Tamako and her friends contemplating what their lives will be like in high school and beyond also made the movie feel "bigger" and more impactful if that makes sense. The animation was lovely, too— especially the lighting and effects during Mochizou's confession and Tamako's initial reaction. The only thing I didn't like was the abrupt ending. (I know they get together, but I wanted to see Mochizou's response to Tamako's confession!)

I didn't get into "The Aquatope on White Sand" until halfway through, but I'm so glad I watched the whole thing. The show even made me cry, which is rare. 😒 Any form of media that gets me invested enough to shed a tear is doing something right. It's weird, but I appreciated that the Gama Gama aquarium closed. By then, it felt like the show was just as much about Kukuru letting go and moving on with her life as it was about Fuuka finding something new to be passionate about after her idol dreams fizzled. As someone who struggles to adapt to change and can get too attached to material things and places, Kukuru's journey hit home hard. It also just felt more realistic while still being hopeful. In that sense, I get why this series was your first choice for me. Another thing I liked was the show's willingness to explain how and why the supporting characters were working at the aquariums and what it all meant to them. (I wish some characters had more to their backstories than others, though.)

"My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU" became a mixed bag for me. For every story arc I liked, there was another I couldn't get into. Hachiman's pessimism and the characters' struggles communicating were a bit much for me at times, even though I understood they had their reasons for being like that. I also didn't fully realize that Yukino and Yui had fallen for Hachiman until the last episode or two of the series. That could be my fault for not paying enough attention. But I think the trouble they (especially Hachiman) had describing their group dynamic to others didn't help. That said, I liked that the end of Season 2 and most of Season 3 focused on the Service Club figuring out where their lives were headed and trying to deepen their relationships with themselves and those around them. To "find something genuine," as Hachiman put it. I think the ending was solid, too. I respect Yui for acknowledging her feelings while not letting them get in the way of her friendship with Yukino. (I feel conflicted about her confessing to Hachiman in that last OVA, though.)

Sorry for the walls of text! You don't have to read it all at once! As you can see, I had a lot of thoughts. (And I didn't even type out all of them.) πŸ˜… Going through these shows was a ride. In general, I'm happy with how they turned out. Thank you again for recommending them! Take care! πŸ˜€

Hi! Thank you for the anime recommendations! I like all three of them so far. πŸ˜„ It's funny you thought "Tamako Market" would be controversial. Of the shows you suggested, "Tamako" appealed to me the most. I heard this series was sweet and wholesome. And yeah, even though I'm only three episodes in, I've gotten through each one with a big smile! It's very nice. 😊

You're right. I've heard of "My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU" and know it was well-liked. Don't worry, I may not have seen many School-themed anime, but I have nothing against them. I also may not like harems, but I don't have a problem with love triangles. Right now, I'm enjoying how fun and quirky the show is. (As well as the snarky banter between Hachiman and Yukino, with Yui caught in the middle.) 🀭

I haven't pinned down "The Aquatope on White Sand" yet. But I'm guessing it's a cathartic, emotional rollercoaster, and I'm all for that! It doesn't hurt that the animation and art style are rather pretty. (As are the opening and ending themes.) It also reminds me of another anime I liked made by the same studio. So, I'm confident "Aquatope" will be similar.

I knew of these titles. But I didn't expect them to be my gifts. It was a real surprise! I'm glad you thought of them, though. I appreciate how different they are in premise and tone while still adhering to my requests in some way. I'm looking forward to watching more. And I will finish them all. I'll leave another comment with more detailed thoughts on each one after I do if you'd like. Again, thanks so much, and Happy New Year!! 🀩

Thank you so much for the secret santa gift :)
I just finished watching the show, and the ending made me stare at a wall thinking for a few minutes, the way only deep stuff can.
I really liked that the viewer's free to choose whether or not Avilio died (doesn't make a happy ending either way, lol). My interpretation is that Nero did kill Avilio, but for Avilio's sake, not his own.
And damn... so much violence. All because of endless revenge, which started out because of what? Having the biggest bad boys club? For real, the more I think about it, the more this mafia stuff is just sad, ego nonsense.

Proper feedback, now: it was a good gift, I really enjoyed it ^^
You were right about strong emotions, although when you said it was about brotherhood, I thought the message of the anime would be something like family above all - yet the opposite ended up happening, with Avilio killing Corteo to keep his revenge going. It was unpredictable, and that was a big plus in my book.
The anime was definitely more grim than what I'm used to, and that's why I'm so glad you recommended this to me: I would've missed it otherwise, and it's given me much to think on.
And by the way, thank you for the bonus gift! It's what I plan on watching next.
That aside - Happy new year! :D
