Sengoku Youko: Yonaoshi Kyoudai-hen

The second season of Sengoku Youko has so many similarities with later parts of Dai no Daibouken that I wouldn't be surprised if it was a direct inspiration. Of course that's the second season, and I'd prefer to recommend the original 1981 version of Dai; but someone else had already recommended these two entries specifically, so I'll double down for the visibility.

Both're strange and particularly mysterious small town murder mysteries with very similar tones to one another. JoJo is obviously a lot more than that, but what part 4 in particular is at its core, is very similar to Migi to Dali.

Both are fantastic, darker and more mature re-imagined re-adaptations of old works. both are also series that deal with the nature of humanity, and whether robots can achieve that.

There is no denying that Future GPX Cyber Formula is a complete Speed Racer rip-off through and through, not only in the vehicles they drive but story and characters as well. The thing is... Cyber Formula is better in right about every way.

Shin Cutie Honey

Super violent, super sexual demon fighting OVAs that were originally adapted in more family friendly ways in the 70s. Both of these are independent from their 70s counterparts. Both based on works of Go Nagai. Devilman even appears in New Cutey Honey.

Both of these 2 episode OVAs feature high school students that get roped in with the police to become spies. They're very similar, although in Sukeban Deka she does her thing in and around her school, while in High School Agent he travels to the task in-between his school obligations.

Fictional stories about real Japanese Hard Rock/Metal bands. I don't know if there's anything more left to say... I mean the stories themselves couldn't be more different but I mean come on, they're anime about real life rock bands, who cares about the story anyway.

Space Cobra

Both "Dirty Pair" and "Space Cobra" tell action packed stories of space adventuring and bounty hunting pairs of badasses. Both are full of nuts-to-butts action as their first priority. Both shows have very similar aesthetics and boast some of the best visuals in anime to this day. Biggest difference between the two is that Dirty Pair is a pair of sexy ladies while Cobra is an incredibly manly man with a robot companion. Cobra is a lot more focused and has some longer arcs, while Dirty Pair is all over the place and fully episodic. Both series follow their first seasons with a bunch of OVAs and a movie, while Cobra's sequels are worse than the First season, Dirty Pair's sequels kick ass over the first season.

Bubblegum Crisis
|
Groups of young women fighting the evils of their respective universes, in Bubblegum Crisis it's cyborgs and in Dirty pair just evil dudes with evil plans. (for the most part, couple robots and fictional creatures do happen) The shows aesthetics and character designs are instantly comparable and boast among the best visuals in anime that go way beyond holding up. The key difference between the two is that Bubblegum Crisis is more of a masked hero show while Dirty Pair is more along the lines of 007's action espionage. Bubblegum Crisis is shorter, and in my humble opinion, a lot better. But a fan of one is going to have a hard time finding something as similar to it, as the other. With Dirty Pair, unlike Bubblegum Crisis, the sequel is superior to the first installment.

Dream Hunter Rem
|
Both of these raunchy OVA are about young women who both run a supernatural investigation/whatever-the-show-calls-for service by their lonesome. Rem, as suggested by her name, can enter peoples dreams to fight apparitions capable of harming the dreamer from within, while Mai runs your ordinary ghost/demon busting service. What sets the two apart, is that Rem takes itself fairly seriously, while Mai is a straight up comedy. I think Mai is funnier as a comedy than Rem is engaging as a story. Ironically Mai is the drastically more sexual one, even though Rem was originally planned as a hentai.

Both "3000 Leagues in Search of Mother" and "Remi, the Nobody's Boy" tell a story of a young boy separated from their mother, who are forced to learn the harsh side of the world due to poverty. The main difference that makes each one unique is that "3000 Leagues" has the main character largely on his own, making new associates when he goes from place to place, while in "Remi" the boy is accompanied by a mentor-like character. Both also: Came out only year apart from each other, they look very similar, feature animal companions, a traveling entertainment troupe plays a big part in both, and they are separated in length by only one episode.
