I would not recommend this to anyone trying to get into anime, nor would I recommend it to anyone looking for a light hearted romance. However, for anyone else, I believe you should try out this anime at least once. Its immersion and the way it slaps around your heart is unparalled, presenting an extent of emotion not felt from any other series. People may find it unrealistic, but I disagree, it takes realism, but gives it the most extreme circumstances. You need maturity to understand, and you need to realize that the message is not blatantly stated, but underlying instead, and possibly subliminal.

This should not make or break your decision to watch School Days. There's nothing particularly special about the designs of the anime, but there's nothing that makes it worse than the average either. 6/10
Sound: I have great experiences with the sounds of the anime. Granted, it never become my favorite series for music or voice acting, but both are more than adequate. However, do not let the opening theme lure you into a false sense of security. 7/10
Characters: There's nothing particularly great about these characters on the surface. In fact, I find them to be incredibly foolish. Their decision making skills are terrible. But at the same time, the fact that they make these mistakes, makes them feel more human. 6/10
Character Development: As plain and human as the characters seem to start off, and actually are throughout the series, the true spectacle is how wonderfully they are developed, or degenerated, if you prefer. Never have I felt such immersion into an anime. And never has something played so hard with my heart in such a short amount of time. It starts off slow, but quickly speeds up more and more throughout the series. Making a steady decline throughout that really makes you connect with the characters, even if turns out to be in a way you don't want to or didn't expect. 10/10
Story: In this case, the characters and the plot work in tandem together, making each section stronger as a result. Now, do be warned that if you cannot find yourself liking the characters, you will probably not like the story, and vice versa. That said, this series is so different from anything else you've seen before, that although it kills you inside, it's like a breathe of fresh air, and I found it relieving to find a series that takes the risk of straying from the norm. The way its told will torture you every step of the way, so if you don't have the heart to handle it, back out now. But for those brave enough to go forward, you may just find yourself immersed in one of the most well-written stories you can find. 10/10
Overall: When people say this series isn't for everyone, they are not lying. But to tell you why, would ruin everything. You should understand by the 4th or 5th episode which kind of person you are. Are you the lover or the hater? Because with this series, there's hardly any room for middle ground. It would seem nothing special on first glance. But, if you have the maturity, and sometimes disregard logic, taking time to understand the story for its underlying message of not playing with your loved ones' emotions, you may find this to be one of the most well developed and well written stories out there; a true gem.
I feel that any mature anime fan, should try School Days, at least one. 8/10
