Darling in the FranXX gives me a very nostalgic feeling familiar to Xam'd. +Same art style +Similar mecha concept +Distant future atmosphere +Both main characters pilot a being as if becoming one with it, although a bit different for Xam'd +Very likable characters beyond just the main characters, even though there are so many mc's in FranXX +The mc goes through feelings of depression and self hatred +There are plenty of mysterious mecha looking creatures that the main characters fight as mechas +Special abilities and powers amongst human kind

+Both have to do with human farming where the main characters have to fight to survive from being eaten, more or less. +The main characters are a trio, one happy-go-lucky, one tough and cold, and the other smart and cunning. Now I wouldn't exactly say they're 100% alike but they're both great trios. +The main characters have to give up a lot through their struggles, to find out secrets, and escape their fate +All main characters (seem to be) children, under 18. Not really persuasive but it provides a sense of sympathy to see these lovable characters go through challenges we wouldn't be able to face.
