This series is not great, but quite fine.
Many of the main characters are very one sided. Yushiro admires Tamayo, Zenitsu is a coward, Inosuke is overconfident and the love hashira loves everybody. I could go on. This is their one defining character trait, and we are sure to be reminded of that every time they come on screen. Inosuke is the exception to this because he actually realises he is not the greatest person of all time when Tomioka shows him what’s up. This was interesting, too bad it hasn’t happened for any other characters (yet?).
Tanjirou is literally Jesus. He has incomparable resolve, always wants
...
to do the utmost good and never compromises. He is not naive unlike so many other main shounen characters. He simply doesn’t have any flaws. He is not the strongest character (of course) because he is a child, so this can hardly be considered a flaw. For this reason he is also a rather uninteresting character.
The enemies aren’t much better. So far they have been demons which simply find it fun to kill people or want more power for the sake of it. Some of them have had backstories but those don't matter since they are generic and they die in a few episodes anyway. At least they all had unique and sometimes interesting abilities. The only somewhat interesting villain was Rui, but he was so obviously evil even though he had sufficient motivation. We also still don’t know anything about Kibutsuji, he might become more interesting, but so far he is simply the main evil guy.
We also have the usual overly expository and unnatural dialogue whose sole purpose is to inform the viewer. It ruins the immersion for me when a person says something that should be obvious to everyone listening (but not to the viewer of course!) which makes it feel like that person is saying that specifically for the viewer. This happened more than a few times throughout the series. They also say things that just happened, as if we just didn't see it ourselves. The enemies think aloud what they are going to do, even if it would have been understood just as well if the enemy just, you know, did it.
The hashira basically looked like clowns, in my opinion, when they were introduced. Everyone with their specific style, clothes, colour and one sided personalities. I also felt that they were very one sided when discussing what to do with Nezuko. They are the leading demon slayers, they should have more nuanced opinions than “All demons must die!”.
The world also felt quite small. It’s not until the very last episode we learn what relationship the demon slayers have to the general society. And the only conflict is basically between the demon slayers and Kibutsuji, nothing else (that we know of) is going on in the world. If demons are such a big threat to humans, one would think that the demon slayers should be more famous or appreciated, but I digress. Maybe I missed some expository dialogue and we actually do know this.
Apart from all that, the series was okay. It wasn’t boring to follow, unlike so many other series I’ve seen. The animation is stunning, but I hardly need to say that. Not one of the greatest in my opinion, but very watchable and on the whole enjoyable.

Tenki no Ko is a beautifully animated kids movie. It has some scenes which are gorgeous with great music. But it isn’t like that most of the time.
For the story to even get going a lot of plot convenience was required. He meets all the right people in all the right places. For the story to continue on from there, a lot of convenience is required. I mean you can’t trust the police to accomplish anything, can you? And to finally end it spectacularly you need deus ex machina. People don’t die when they sacrifice themselves, right? There just gotta be some way for it
...
to end happily.
This being a romance where the main characters spend a lot of time together you would expect them to develop their relationship in some way. Spoiler alert, they don't. Because we’re starving for romantic scenes here, it can end with a simple hug. Is that enough payoff?
Although I will give something to the movie. I thought it was rather funny. Not in the intrusive mood destroying terrible way to be funny, but just a few simple funny scenes. That is, I believe, how you incorporate humor in an otherwise dramatic move. And let’s not forget that it’s beautifully animated. This is often where the strengths of movies lie, but then again they often lack in all other areas, as compared to longer series.
So a great kids movie. They won’t notice the things that irritate other viewers, they will simply enjoy the ride full of convenience without any real payoff. They will indulge in the beautiful colors.

This is a series I would probably really enjoy a few years ago. At present, however, I find it thoroughly underwhelming. I don’t like this type of series anymore, so this review may be somewhat unfair, but oh well.
Even though this series doesn’t market itself as such, it seems just like a regular ecchi harem for the entire first half of it, but with a few hints of something more. Every episode is episodic with a thin thread tying it together. The second half is basically what’s interesting, but even then just barely.
On surface level this seems like a mystery, but it isn’t. The clues
...
to the mystery are bare, almost nonexistent. The conclusion is rather dull. Explanations for how things work in the series are somewhat logical, I guess, but it still feels like whatever can happen for the sake of drama. Calling this a mystery is basically saying that all series that don't explain everything right away (which is basically every series) is a mystery. That doesn’t seem fair now, does it?
The horror aspect is also weak. Spoiler alert, nothing bad ever happens, basically. The romance is the one thing it has going for it, though. There is plenty of that. But it is simply between the two main characters. Although there were other women involved, they were never any competition.
It also incorporates humor almost everywhere, to the point where the plot is hard to take seriously. This happens way too often. Another thing that bothered me was that we basically never saw other people for the entire show. This made the main characters seem isolated from the rest of the world, which maybe was the point, but it made the entire plot and mystery feel much less grand that it could have been. It just involved a few people.
I don’t like speaking about plot holes because I can be misinterpreting something and most things that are plot holes basically don't matter. For example, it was never made clear which people can see her, if they can touch or what other people see of the things she does. She messes with Okonogi in the first episode, but in the special Okonogi can’t see the things she's holding.
I don’t get what people see in this show. To me, it seems just like a regular ecchi harem anime with some supernatural elements and a love story that’s a little too much. Which side of the average line you place it on depends on what you compare it to. It’s better than most ecchi harem series but not better than good mystery, romance or supernatural shows.

This is a charming little series that’s somewhat entertaining to watch. It falls short in many areas though, in my opinion.
The entire series has a somewhat not so serious mood. It often makes jokes and is not as dramatic and suspenseful as I would like. This is obviously a personal preference, but I do not like the way it is done in this series. Many scenes that should have felt dramatic and serious do not because the mood is so relaxed that we know nothing terrible can happen. Spoiler alert: nothing of consequence ever happens.
It is also focused and has a clear goal, but is
...
rather random at the same time. We know what the protagonist wants and we know what the antagonist wants. The thing I do not like though is the way they try to accomplish it. It is often “Lets go to this person I know that has a very specific ability that we need”. These characters also (often) never appear again, which makes them feel like simple plot devices. All character’s abilities har also rather vague, which means that there’s most of the time no way to expect what’s going to happen: “Oh he can do that, how convenient”. The main characters are memorable, and most of them are interesting.
Many times the characters simply act because some random festival is taking place or they are invited to a game of baseball. Some events just come and sweep the characters up, making it feel like they lack proactivity.
And speaking of the story feeling random, the ending is not satisfying in the least. After all characters have experienced the events and done some stuff, the story just fizzles out without leaving any lasting impact. Quite a disappointment in my opinion.
The world seems decently cool, too bad we don’t get to see much of it. The entire conflict is between two random groups of people, which I enjoy much more than say between two empires, or god forbid, between good and evil. This has the problem though that we only see the small part of the world they see. We do not really have an overarching understanding of the society, or other prominent characters in it. It feels like the only thing going on in that world is what's happening on screen, which isn’t good world building.
At least it is somewhat entertaining to watch because it has a few unique ideas in there, even though they aren’t perfectly executed in my opinion.

Thinking about this one was tough for me. It’s somewhat interesting but at the same time boring.
The world seems to be quite interesting and unique. It’s not set in a school like so many other shounen anime. Some things that could be interesting but we don’t know that much about are the organisation, the black dude with the sunglasses, the main villain and more. To learn more about these could possibly be interesting. The duality between claymore and yoma is also interesting.
I feel that there are a few problems with it though, superficial as they may be. The first one is that everyone looks
...
the same. This is different to many others in which everyone looks completely different and quirky, which also most of the time makes them look like clowns. But when everyone looks the same it makes it dull instead. The middleground is definitely where you want to be.
The second, and bigger, problem I have is the fight scenes, which are so incredibly boring. It’s all about power and speed. Sure the different claymores have different abilities but most of it just comes down to the two previously mentioned aspects. Prepare to be bored out of your mind.
The ending (although it’s anime only) is also terrible, which can be summed up as: the main character gets a huge power boost from wanting revenge.
So interesting but unexplored world and characters with utterly boring fights. Maybe the manga is better?

This series is only slightly better than most other random shounen series. Only slightly, though.
The protagonist in this series is unreasonably strong for no reason. He can apparently also handle the strongest cursed spirit that ever lived, for no reason. Only because he is the protagonist. This makes me instantly dislike him.
A problem this series suffers from, that’s quite common, is the cursed spirit ranking system. A ranking system can be useful to gauge one's strength and compare it to others. But when the only monsters the protagonists face is the strongest grade, all other grades lose their purpose. Saying that their enemy is
...
special grade for the millionth time doesn’t really have the effect it’s supposed to.
The sorcerers in this series are unique. They have different and memorable abilities. The series is also beautifully animated which makes the fight scenes rather entertaining to watch. But they are rarely that interesting, which is mostly a problem with the enemies but somewhat a problem with the protagonists as well.
The idea behind the enemies in this series is cool. All monsters are born from human fear and the bigger the fear, the stronger the monster. But this also makes them somewhat mindless. They appear out of nowhere, basically have no goal and simply fight the protagonists. I don’t care about them in the slightest and they are obviously the evil side. This makes every fight scene feel hollow and are only there to entertain the audience, nothing thoughtful or interesting. Not to mention the enemies that just like fighting strong opponents for lols, they are just creepy, weird and extremely dull.
The main characters’ part in the fights is simply to exterminate the evil cursed spirits. It’s their job. No personal investment, no interesting motivation, just that they are evil and need to be killed. How very boring.
Speaking of the big problem with cursed spirits in their society. They should really have affected it a bit more. It seems that their world is just like ours but with cursed spirits. A society like that probably should have changed more than having a small, secret group of people handling them, sometimes. This just feels so strange to me.
My last problem is that a certain person in the series could basically handle every problem all the time. That is if he wasn’t out doing something (idk) everything something happened so that the protagonists could handle it instead. It reminds me of One Punch Man but without the comedic tone. It’s just dumb.
All in all this series is pretty average as far as shounen goes. What really sets it apart is it’s stunning animation and flashy fights. But beyond that it doesn’t hold up as an interesting series on the whole.

I’m a little disappointed in this series. I like it but maybe my expectations were a tad bit too high.
The series starts out great with many different characters with varying goals and personalities. I got the feeling then that the plot would involve all these different characters and intertwine their stories, but I was kind of mistaken. There are many characters, yes, but most of them fall to the wayside after their issues are resolved. They still exist and we see them now and again but they do nothing for the plot. Most of them also lack any real goal, even the antagonists motivation is
...
basically being bored, as far as I could tell.
You would also expect such a series to be complex and intriguing when following so many different characters, but it fell short of my expectations yet again. The plot basically boils down to the three main characters being the center of the entire conflict. This was the exact opposite of what I hoped the series would turn into.
It also sometimes makes references to other anime clichés. This can be cool but it is done in such an obvious way. One character in the show says the things he would do if he was cliché and then ends up doing something else. This just makes the show come off as a bit too show-offy, in my opinion.
The story is also told in a more confusing way than it has to. This makes it more interesting but at the same time a little annoying. Everything that happens (I think, hard to keep track of it all) gets an explanation at some point even if it didn’t make sense or felt like coincidences at the time it happened.
Something else I found weird about the characters is that they are way stronger and way more skilled at fighting than they should be. There are also some supernatural elements in the series which I can accept, but that everyone (except Mikado lol) is a skilled fighter breaks the immersion for me a little.
At least you won’t be bored. A lot of different stuff happens at the same time which makes everything a large, and sometimes confusing, mess. It’s quite fine but I expected a lot more.

I’ve heard quite positive things about this series, but to my dismay, I didn’t find this particular season that entertaining.
It often felt very repetitive. I guess this is to be expected from a series about time travel, but when we experience basically the same events many times it gets boring quickly. Even if we always learn something every alternate timeline and never the exact things happen twice the plot still moves forward at a snail's pace.
And even though the possibility of him dying is supposed to always be there (because he actually does die sometimes), it’s still never unexpected when he does. He
...
never dies when he has made major plot progression, manages to execute a well thought out plan or after achieving a difficult feat. It's only when him dying results in no major loss of work on his part that the show will actually let him die.
Most series that don't take place in our world often need to spend time exploring it for the audience to feel invested and interested. This series however only uses the world as a backdrop for the characters. Although I somewhat like the characters I can’t help but feel that the world is thoroughly underdeveloped. For example most of the characters we see in the foreground are humans but I would have loved to learn more about the other races that always show up in the background.
There are also a lot of characters in this series worth exploring more. We see the world from Subarus' perspective and it’s mostly him on screen all the time. This is sad because we have so many other characters, say Roswaal for example, that would be interesting to learn more about.
Subaru has the personality of all other isekai protagonists being confident and charismatic. Although he is very different in the sense that he isn’t very competent. But him being weak is fine since he’s always revived every time he dies. The entire show up to this point is basically him messing something up, dying, reviving and trying again, until he succeeds. Talk about being repetitive. And “Your smile” is not enough of an explanation for the obsession he has with Emilia and the insane length he goes through to satisfy her.
There are also very few questions answered. We don't know how or why he specifically was transported to this world. We don’t know how it relates to our world. We don’t know why he has his ability. We don’t know when he will be resurrected.
Continuing with the theme of things being unexplained, I can say that we also don’t really have an overarching plot. There is mainly some trouble that he reacts to and solves after a few attempts. Although we kind of understand his situation we truly can’t comprehend his place in this universe. To us it seems that his struggle is the utmost important thing happening. Maybe because it is, maybe because we don’t know enough of the rest of the world.
To sum up I feel that this show has potential and that it goes wide but never that deep. It has many possibly interesting characters and possibly a thorough thought out and interesting world. I can only hope that this series just scratches the surface of what this universe has to offer. But this season alone isn’t quite enough to convince me that it’s good.

What a wholesome series! Aren’t they just so incredibly cute together? I had the feeling that this would be like a regular romantic comedy or maybe harem, but I was gladly mistaken. The whole series is carried by their cuteness and uniqueness among the sea of bland and boring “turn off your brain”-series. Following are some of the things that make it unique, at least compared to what I’ve watched before.
The show is actually funny, believe it or not. This is the type of humor I like much more than the obnoxious, over-the-top humor in say KonoSuba or other series like that. Varied jokes
...
come occasionally without getting repetitive or ruining the mood of other otherwise serious scenes.
And that jokes never ruin the mood is great. This is because the mood between the two main characters is what this show is all about. If it was frequently ruined with out of place jokes it wouldn’t be nearly as good. But the other way the mood is altered is when other characters come into play. This takes focus away from the two main characters, but I guess it would get repetitive with only two characters so I don’t know how it could have been made better.
It references a whole lot of other anime and famous movies. So I guess you can’t turn your brain off entirely. It never crosses the line to being annoying, forced or out of place which makes them feel like seasoning to an otherwise decent dish.
Another thing that’s uncommon in this sort of series is the actual change from episode to episode. In other series like this one, characters often never develop, just get exposed to various situations, laugh and then the series ends. But things in this series actually change and progress. Not to mention how much progress they make in the first episode alone.
And after watching the entire show I still wonder what Tsukasa is wearing on the back of her head? To conclude I can say that the show ultimately is not that ambitious with what it wants to do, but what it does, it does great.

This is the season where this anime finally got really good. No, actually great. Many of the things in the earlier seasons lacked explanations and some characters lacked proper motivations for their actions. What happens in many series is that questionable things, like mentioned earlier, are often neglected, forgotten or explained in outright unreasonable ways. Exactly this made me sceptical towards this series. But alas, basically all of my concerns have been answered, and well at that. I can no longer question the greatness of this series.
This raises an interesting point. Should this season retrospectively increase the score of the previous seasons? The other seasons
...
basically had to be the way they are, I think, for this season to actually be as great as it was. So I believe it’s right to still view the previous seasons as worse, although this season makes the series great as a whole. If I had more faith that the series would actually manage to tie everything together in the end I might not have rated the previous seasons as bad as I did. I do believe that the previous season could actually be better by hinting more at what was to come. It almost came out of nowhere, almost.
I realise now that what I’m about to say is somewhat of a spoiler, but you have been warned. This reminds of The Promised Neverland, although it only takes 1 episode for them to realise what's happening, instead of 3 seasons like in this anime.
Although something that bothers me is how blatantly obvious the main characters plot armour is. If you have seen the show you should understand exactly what I mean.
So yeah. This show, in my mind, went from somewhat interesting and cool but messy with many loose ends to something that makes perfect sense. Although all is fine now, I still somewhat dislike the previous seasons for not giving more clues. Oh well, nothing is perfect I guess, but this comes really close.
