- animation quality/style is superficial - judging an anime by how it looks is the same as judging a person by the looks ; the "outside" may wither in time, but what's inside is forever
- realistic characters are what moves you the most - whether it's a fantasy world, isekai, virtual world or another world, if the character emotions and behavior don't feel realistic, it's many times harder to relate to them and thus - to care and feel for them
- "different" doesn't mean neither "good", nor "bad" - being innovative surely requires bravery and should always be encouraged, but it doesn't mean that any anime that tries something different/new is automatically good
- all anime genres are to be respected... except for ecchi - even if the anime that contains ecchi elements is great, most likely it would have been even better without them as they are often so cheap that they end up lowering the overall value of the anime
If you share at least some of these beliefs, you may find to like similar anime as me =)
I used to believe that the average score for all anime should be 5.50 (the average between 1 and 10), but recently I've started noticing that there's too many 3s and 4s to for 7s and 8s to match with them. Maybe the average is around 5 after all.
I occasionally update my ratings, lowering or increasing the score of some anime even without rewatching them so it's hard to call a score "final", just like anime ratings in MAL's database frequently change.
10 - best of the genre. The absolutely first recommendation to anyone who's into the given genre, whether they are a newcomer or anime veteran. Sometimes it's hard to differentiate between genres so I'm always open to suggestions as to what genre should I include in the 10 category.
9 - incredible anime who aren't a 10 just because there's a better fit for the 10 mark. I believe anyone who's into anime culture should see them.
8 - great anime with either one big flaw or a liitle too many minor flaws which separate them from the truly best of the genre. Recommended to anime viewers who already gained some experience because some of them may not be a good fit for everyone.
7 - good anime which definitely could have done better but are worth the watch. A lot of different type of shows may fit in that category - generic anime which don't bring anything new but execute everything perfectly, anime which strived for greatness but tried to swallow a bite that's too big for them and so on. Generally speaking, those are the anime which did more things well than they did badly and I recommend them to veteran anime viewers.
6 - average anime, but did a little more rights than wrongs
5 - average anime, but did a little more wrongs than rights
4 - anime which fucked up big time somewhere. They can still be liked or even loved by a lot of people but I'm definitely not one of them.
3 - anime which did everything wrong except for one thing which is their saving grace (animation quality excluded).
2 - anime which did everything wrong but out of respect for the hard work of all the people behind it, I didn't give them a 1.
1 - anime which should have never been created. They did something "forbidden" and are either hurtful to society or insult a certain group of people. An easy example of the latter is The Promised Neverland S2 which destroyed everything that S1 built upon and made even people who were in love with the series dislike it.
This is my personal Anime of the season list ever since I've started watching seasonals. I list in there only the season that a given anime has started airing (according to MAL's classification), continuations included. Have in mind that, naturally, I can't watch all of the anime in any given season so I might have missed some hidden gems.
