This movie was a menace to my principles; it brought me closer to my utter nightmare, finding the perfect work worthy of my perfect score. The reason I am scared of anime this powerful is because if I do find a perfect work, anything I will watch after it will seem boring, prehistoric or otherwise not as good. This anime challenged this principle of mine that a perfect work cannot exist. Even having said all that, I am still hesitating on the final score since it was without question one of the best works I have seen; I will remember it for a long time.
The
...
first thing that should be mentioned about this movie would be that fact that it is imperative that you watch the first episode of the second season of this series, you will still be able to enjoy the movie if you do not see that episode, but the experience will less likely be as pleasurable as it could. The story in this anime is actually pretty complicated, simply because is has to be more deduced and guessed rather than it being simply thrown on the spectator, making it a very interesting and developed story. This said complexity pushes you to theorise and elaborate on things you took for granted or thought were immutable if you are a suzumiya fan. Sadly, to comprehend the actual movie you have to have watch at least the first season of the suzumiya chronicles, else you will not understand a thing and will be lost by the time the two and a half hours are finished, then again, even if you have seen the suzumiya series, you will probably still be slightly lost by the time the credits roll. And that is the only thing i can actually criticise, the fact that this movie was so complicated was what made it so enjoyable but so confusing and sometimes irritating, that is the beauty of this movie, it confuses you to a point you are forced to reflect to comprehend and actually made it a very enjoyable experience. Unsurprisingly, the mood of this movie drastically changes from the anime to this, being less of a comedic parody and focusing a lot more on character development and on the drama part that was slightly showed in the anime, yet, this change only positively affects the overall outcome of the movie. I have read some complaints everywhere on the net about the fact that hahuri suzumiya wasent present enough in the movie and that it made it boring, if you are such a person, i will be pleased to refer you to the actual title of the movie (hence the disappearing part) and gently ask you to shut up. The main aspect that i found interesting was the character focused story rather than event focused story, plus we actually got a focus on kyon’s character which is simply amazing. In the end, all the changes made in the story rendred it amazing, all the changes from the anime we loved absolutely fitted in the movie I now adore, it was simply amazing.
Ps: question everything, especially kyon’s origins. It might bring you interesting reflections.
Obviously enough, the characters in the movie were as breathtaking, if not more, than the characters in the anime. The story shaking the very foundations of the anime actually did the same thing to the characters, ever so changing them and revealing a part of them that was left unexplored (as i mentioned in my first Haruhi suzumiya review). The fact that we are shown this new aspect of the characters refreshes the subject and actually made the whole experience not only as breathtaking as the anime but surprisingly traumatic and even odd. Then again, that weirdness only complemented the actual beauty of the final work. Also, the fact that we are shown this new side of the characters permits us to define their personality and their background a lot more, it permitted us to completely redefine the characters and make us bond with them again. In the end, I was not only entirely astonished by the characters; it also brought me back to the point of worship of Haruhi I was before the endless 8.
I don’t know what to say about the artwork. By that I mean, isn’t it obvious that it is simply amazing? It was detailed, beautiful, smooth, nice, magnificent, and almost made me depressed because it was realistic and made my world look like total crap for a second. The real beauty of the movie was actually the details of the facial expressions and the care they took to make it representative of the emotions lived by the characters.
The music was also obviously amazing, but better than that the movie actually exploited almost perfectly the impact of silence. The music was excellently placed and very emotive, it stated perfectly the emotions shown in the scenes. It was perfect.
In the end, this is definitely one of the best works I have ever seen. It was complicated, yes, but it was wonderfully special. There is no way comprehend how I appreciated this anime. I recommended it to anyone.
Best quote:
Ryouko Asakura: hey... Hey! What’s wrong? I was trying to talk to you before but you’re acting like you have just seen an alien or something.
Kyon: -seeing an alien wouldn’t be unusual, I saw something far more ridiculous.
Entertainment: 10/10
Value: 10/10
It was that good to me, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Amongst the things i cannot comprehend, is incest, and quite frankly, when i saw the name of this anime on my plan to watch list, i was scared senseless. Rather oddly, It wasn't as bad as I would have thought concerning the sibling relationship. And i would go as far as saying, that it was actually an okay anime. The major flaws in here would still be the fact that it tries to be taken too seriously when the matter at hand is quite ridiculous.
the setting itself can't be considered original, its the same ''normal schoolboy'' setting we have all seen so many times
...
before and the only ''twist'' to it is the fact his sister is an eroge addict (how or where she procures herself these adults materials while she is only 14 or so is never explained). All along the anime she tries to live with her love of eroge while trying to not be viewed as an otaku by keeping it secret and I still have to admit that it is somewhat intriguing to see the view society has regarding otaku and at some times we could indeed see the social problems with being a fan of anime and feel the awkwardness of her passion, the main problem is the fact that the anime is either too serious when discussing the matter or too ridiculous when it is not the time for it. it then pleases no audience since it cannot effectively choose the timing for comedy or drama to aid the ''plot'' (which is somewhat nonexistent since the anime adopts a semi-episodic approach). In the end it was simply boring because it went for the most part with generic and ''seen before'' situation which killed the whole originality of it.
The characters were sadly very clichéd, relying on some generic character personalities and bringing little to no modification to the original ''canvas'' of the character, and that again did not help to the appreciation of the anime since it lacked originality. Plus the main characters being already quite bland, the side characters with little personality did only add bitterness to the already borderline acceptable mix. even if we do witness some kind of character development and evolution in the matter they all interact with each other, the evolution was either random or simply not important enough. In the end, the characters were still lacking, and it is sad to say because there was some potential in the character setting to make them quite good.
On the plus side, the art actually surprised me a little, being somewhat better than other anime i have seen this year, it provided some acceptable character design and some alright (often animated) backgrounds.
the music, regrettably, did not follow in the footsteps of the visual art, being generic and quite repetitive, it did not help to make the anime enjoyable as it did not bring any remarkable support to the visuals. the voices however were quite good and interesting, very well casted but ,again, could sometimes have been more expressive.
in the end, it was an acceptable anime, wasn't that good, yes, but wasn't horrible. even if it was at times boring, it stayed interesting in the most part of the anime. I would suggest this to any fan of this sort of anime.
ps: This is absolutely not a seinen, make no mistakes.

As I am finishing this anime, I can only feel the sickening sensation of disgust invading my body as I frown upon our future. This near prophetic anime is a true work of art, its beauty is incomparable in its art and its message. a 23 minutes you absolutely want to see, even if you do not agree that it is almost the fate that awaits us.
the story 9/10: pale cocoon offers a deep and complex story that is an absolute must see, it pictures the dilemma of a man having a complex choice to make, satisfy his quest for knowledge of the
...
old world or let the matter rest, since everyone has realized the massacre the humans caused, and move on. It is definitively one of the best spent 23 minutes of my life as it pushed its audience to reflect on the matters at hand.Plus it offers a wonderful plot twist in the end. you have no reason to miss this, go watch it now.
the art (10/10): it is astonishing, the simplicity and wonder of this art can only be described as breathtaking, especially since the anime had a very small budget. if only all the anime would take pale cocoon as an example, the world would be a better place.
sound: (9/10): the voice acting was actually pretty neat considering again the very low budget of the anime. the music and the sounds were very satisfying and always well placed, i was surprised by the repetitive use of silence and how well it complemented the anime.
characters (9/10): even if the characters are pretty much irrelevant, we get more content about them in 23 mins than a lot of other anime in a whole season. they gave us some nice background and helped to unfold the plot so perfectly.
enjoyment: 9/10: I have enjoyed this anime so much, even in its restricted length, it procured a very appreciable thrill and forced me to think about many problems to come and some already existing. it was definitively a magnificent OVA, and I suggest this anime for everyone.
overall : 9/10: in the end, Pale cocoon exceeded my expectations and will remain one of my favorite OVAs forever, it was intelligent, satisfying and as I have said, almost prophetic. go watch it now, its 23 mins of your life you will not regret.

Lately, harem anime seem to really bore me, although i wasent expecting much from this anime, i was surprised to actually discover a quite decent anime in the end. Of course, it could have been better, but it was actually quite good for a harem and acceptable as a romance/comedy.
story (6/10): the story of this anime is quite acceptable, but not that original or developed in the anime. the story is about a guy who has to charm girls to send the evil spirits out of their hearts and save them, if he fails to do so, he loses his head, literally. The whole
...
story was not that original for it goes straight to the harem part, plus the romance part is quite undermined, focusing too much on a gamer approach of the thing and quite frankly not being as original as i could be.
Art (710): I was actually quite surprised by the art in this anime since it was surprisingly good at times. for instance in the eleventh episode there was a scene where the library kinda exploded, and it was a quite beautiful sight. the anime could have taken advantage from more scenes as those, but quite sadly, it didn't
sound (6/10): the sound in this wasn't half bad, the voice acting was okay , though somewhat annoying at times but was good in the end. But the background music wasn't all that good, relying on excessive piano use to jerk some feelings out, but it doesn't work. either was, the sound was okay.
character (6/10): the characters were actually fine, but they lacked character development. By that I mean since they adopt the ''amnesia'' way of doing things, they destroy their only way to give some character developments to the secondary characters since they forget everything and the main characters actually didn't have that much development in their personalities. Plus, a lot of characters were quite clichéd , not offering an intense uniqueness.
enjoyment (5/10): I cant say I have enjoyed this as much as i could have enjoyed it, i think it had some great potential on many levels and that it failed to exploit it, it was entertaining, but not much than your average harem anime.
overall (6/10): it was okay, but nothing more than that. It was acceptable for a harem anime, but it failed to become more than that. they had a good idea and a good base, but they failed to push it further and let it become better, lets hope they can get that in the second season.

This review contains spoilers.
When I started this I was expecting something average , truly, since I did not know anything about the anime, not even the fact that it was a harem, and even less the fact that it was based on a porn game, but when I learned that, it did not stop me from at least giving this anime a chance, and sadly, I did. It turned out to be a major waste of time and being seriously nothing more than your average soft-core hentai harem.
story(3/10): I know it is quite controversial to give such a low score on something like that
...
but I was frankly expecting more from the story. The story itself can be resumed to basically some guy with an awful lot of sex appeal (like any other harem hero) who nails girls one after another in a village (lets not forget the part which was based on the game, which gives us some kind of alternate ending for each girl...). I'm not criticizing the actual story that much but rather its content, it was generic, repetitive, clichéd and destroyed the very essence of the ''romance'' genre it was suppose to be.
art (5/10): The art wasn't that bad actually and would merit a better score than 5, but the forced 3d animation inserted was obviously done by some amateur or had very little budget associated to its production, thus lowering the score.
sound (3/10): The voice acting itself was not that horrible, though some voices did tend to get on my nerve (the sisters voice for instance). The real downside to the sound was the repetitive background with a range of 3 or 4 instruments maximum (and an excessive use of the piano/violin).
characters (5/10): The characters wouldn't have been half bad if it would have been another style of anime and not a romance one, which focuses the whole plot around the actual character development and the interaction of one with another. That part of the anime was actually pretty boring since the characters were all passing the same developments almost in the same order (likes the main character, relationship, problem, reconciliation , sex).
enjoyment (2/10): I can't say i have enjoyed this anime at all. It was long, repetitive and boring, but I must say i have laughed hard in the eleventh episode when i actually saw the overly incestuous couple get caught... and the incest kinda did not help to the enjoyment factor, if your into that kind of stuff, i suggest you watch episode 10/11/12... what you do while watching that is your own damn thing.
overall: 3/10 Overall, this was a pretty bad anime, it was nothing but soft core hentai, and if your really into hentai then its not even for you since its too censored. either way, i don't think this will please people who like romance, since its a harem and they are commonly known to massacre the genre with each episode. plus i don't even think it will satisfy the hentai lovers since its too censored. in the end, this is only something for the pure hardcore lovers of the genre...

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the greatest masterpiece ever to foil this planets surface, behold Training with Hinako!.
story 10/10 : a treasure amongst treasures, the amazingly complex and developed story made monster look like a walk in the part. But the true masterwork of this anime is its absence of repetitive content. Truly amazing.
Art 10/10 : the beauty of this anime is out of this world, making the considered masterpieces of art in anime shiver before its greatness, none of them coming close to match its outstanding designs and realistic backgrounds. but the true secret of its beauty is the subtle and barely noticeable
...
ecchi. wonderful and complex art.
sound 10/10: one of its best features, the sound. The awesomeness of it can only be truly seen as she counts her way up to twelve when exercising, this amazing voice acting is only backed with superb repetitive and generic music that really get you in the mood of the anime
characters 10/10: Best character development i have seen in a long time, plus one of the most complex characters seen yet to anime, with all her counting-exercising issues, it makes you happy to live in such a trouble-less life and not be suck in her hell bent mind troubling world. the absolute of the magnificence of this character development arrives as she *SPOILERS* changes cloths wile doing the same exercises she did countless times before, quite the plot twist character-wise.
enjoyment 10/10: it was marvelous, making you pass trough all sorts of states of mind, confusion, sadness, horror, awe, and finally happiness as she reached the end of her 12 repetition exercises in one piece. truly a masterfully well executed anime. worthy of any public regardless of age or sex.
overall 10/10: a true jewel, a rare one of its kind anime who, dare i say it, might be the next best thing since mars of destruction.
