Hello It's Me! A cynical and judgmental prick on the internet that has very selective tastes and a grading system for anime that has evolved over time. Here's my story of how I got into anime and how my tastes have evolved.

When I was growing up, my introduction to anime was Dragon Ball Z and Naruto which my brothers watched. I found both of those shows to be over-the-top with mediocre artwork, bad voice acting (both the sub and dub) and thought that the needless destruction and characters hairstyle changing as they powered up was ridiculous!
And most importantly, I couldn't stand that the fights took so long because characters keep talking and then shrugging off every punch.

I wrongly assumed that all anime was like those two shows because Dragon Ball Z and Naruto were the two most popular anime in the States at the time and it was all that I had seen. Thus, I kept this shallow opinion of mine until my roommate at college told me about the 1995 anime Ghost in the Shell movie. Since I was a big fan of Blade Runner and the more human than human concept, I decided to give it a chance despite my reservations about anime as a whole. Seeing that film changed my perspective of anime forever and made me realize that anime wasn't a genre like I initially thought it was, but merely a medium of entertainment filled with all sorts of interesting stories. Shortly after, my best friend and my brother both recommended that I watch my first anime show called Death Note which slowly started my descent into making me the anime otaku that I am today.

Over time, I have grown to both love and loathe a lot of the tropes of the anime industry. Which I highlight below for both Shonen and Shoujo anime. A show can still be good if it has tropes, but when the story itself becomes cliche or a show becomes longer simply because they add tropes, it leads to a show being forgettable and makes me wonder why I bother wasting my time getting invested. Especially if the number of episodes starts exceeding the standard 24 limit that shows often have.

General Anime Tropes:
*High School Setting (Japan, there is more to life outside of high school)
*Sexualization of minors (I get it, they're drawings, but it can get really bad especially when they are drawn to look even younger)
*Beach episodes. (If it doesn't add to the plot, please don't make it cannon)

Shonen Anime Tropes:
*Announcing your Attacks
*Talking During Fights
*Dead Moms
*Fanservice (big anime tiddies)
*Harems. (Everyone wants some of that pubescent anime protagonist's dick)
*Power of Friendship
*The Protagonist survives encounters that they should have died because they have more sheer will and determination than the villains do
*Female friend of male hero physically assaults him because "haha violent females are funny"

Shoujo Anime Tropes:
*Misunderstandings from shy protagonists continue to escalate when all the characters have to do is talk
*Love triangles
*Overprotective fathers and brothers
*Nervous Anime breathing noises
*Hair flowing in slow-motion in the wind/Anime guys glittering in slow-motion too
*Scatterbrained female love-interest

I hope you enjoy reading this and please give me some suggestions of anime that you think that I will like based on the list of favorites that I have below and the tropes that I reference above. I tend to prefer quality over quantity and will much prefer watch a show that is 24 episodes or less versus an on-going one or one that is beyond 50 episodes. And always remember, to never keep a closed mind about anything because you never know what opening up can lead you to explore. I'm glad I got over my own prejudices and am looking forward to finding new anime shows/movies/visual novels/video games that will give me different perspectives on what anime can do as a medium of entertainment.

Ranking System According to Reading Steiner

10/10 = An Absolute Favorite (I am a fanatic for this and probably have several memes of it on my phone saved at all times waiting to be used at the most opportune time.)

9/10 = A Classic of the Genre (I have a lot of respect for this and think everyone should watch this)

8/10 = I love this! (Might even be a guilty pleasure, but I have a lot of love for this and am willing to fight for my opinion)

7/10 = I enjoyed this (A solid experience. Have no issues recommending this to anyone)

6/10 = Liked it could rewatch someday (More good than bad overall, but some questionable decisions)

5/10 = Decent (Has enjoyable moments, but I probably won't willingly watch it again

4/10 = Meh (Hard to finish and I probably skipped some parts or was multi-tasking and didn't give it my full attention)

3/10 Boring (Lack of a gripping-enough plot for it to be worth my time)

2/10 Bad (Only a few good aspects to it)

1/10 Pathetic (Nothing redeemable about this)

Hey there, thank you for adding me back! Correct my profile picture is Kurisu Makise, it's a fan art crossing over Steins;gate and BlazBlue. To be fair I didn't have the pleasure to play steins;gate YET, I hope to someday, I bet it's an incredible game just as much as its anime. I hope you have a nice day~

Interesting Fact about the Attack on the Animation Studio, what you posted below the Violet Evergarden Ova. Everyone knew it happened, but not when. And this gives this Episode actually an interesting meaning for their work.

Thanks for the fr Houuin Kyouma. Steins;Gate really is amazing
Veronin Jul 6, 2021 3:21 AM
Agreed with that completely. She really makes the show so much more enjoyable to watch.

My picture is Nico from Love Live. She's my favourite anime girl, although she's a bit different and more feisty than Azusa. :)
Veronin Jul 5, 2021 9:37 PM
Glad you liked it, and happy to hear you're also a fan of Azusa. :D

Thank you for accepting my invitation! I have a terrible memory, so I would guess that you wrote some review that I read and liked. When I watch an anime, I keep looking for different reviews and opinions, and I send requests to these people.
It’s time to ditch the text file.
