I wanted to rec something that gets the dark fantasy, strange world, vibes /and/ the dark sexuality right, where I thought Gleipnir does a pretty poor job with the latter. Melody of Oblivion does not, still after I can't say how many shows watched one of the most strangely sensual anime I've seen. The shows are similar in that there is a hidden conflict going on in both worlds that only a select few are aware of and participating in. The manifestation of abilities covers a lot of ground in the monsters of both shows.

Crazy powers that feel a bit off, overall theme that is on the borderline of too-out-there / poorly executed but the unpredictability that results is part of the enjoyment. Insane female side kick(s). Def felt very similar vibes.

Shocking I didn't see this rec'd. To me, Gleipnir felt like a show that was made because of the success of Re:Zero. A sprawling odd plot that is more interested in adding mysteries than solving any. Female cast members have more power, more agency and often more brains than our male MC. A lot of psychologically dark material. Re:Zero is dialed to 11 while Gleipnir is sitting at a comfortable 7 or 8 on the psycho scale but they certainly share similar dna.

Sidonia no Kishi

Sidonia is what you were wishing for if you watched Muv-Luv and thought it could be so much better if it took its own material more seriously. Although with Sidonia you do lose the epic bodysuits, almost entirely female cast and more blunt harem elements. Its certainly worth watching if you want a more mature telling of what it might be like if humanity found itself pushed to the brink.

Lelouch is one of the better analogues you'll find to Tatsuya and though he isn't nearly as GODMODE he benefits from being in a vastly superior story and better animated show than poor Tatsuya. While there isn't an imouto character in Geass of anywhere near the same quality as Miyuki there is plenty of potential romances and one sided love affairs to go around in Geass' great cast. Potential turn off = mecha. Otherwise enjoy a great show.

Bakemonogatari
add

There aren't many anime that can be considered in the same league as FLCL in terms of artistic achievement. Monogatari certainly comes close. But its not just that. While there are a million other things going on in both shows at their core they are about maturing through discovering love and heart break. While they aren't incredibly similar they are both of such rare quality and do share enough thematic elements that a fan of one should be sure to check out the other.

MC's both deal with the supernatural quite well and it makes sense considering their outsider status. The main females are both beautiful and strange, giving the romance plots similar feels despite the stories and themes of the shows being quite different. Both shows have ecchi elements but in a more sexy and mature way (esp in Monogatari's case) than most anime can manage to pull off.

Both shows have very detailed and good art and animation. Both shows have a darker than anime avg take on the supernatural. In the midst of all that both have a very sexy undercurrent without being stupid pantsu fanservice. Both are amazing shows. ^^

Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.

If you like one of these male leads you should enjoy the perspective of the other. While Yuhari is really starred by the main female instead of the main male the females have a lot in common in terms of being independent, strong and confusing for the males to figure out. Both shows feature limited but well developed for 12 ep anime series supporting casts. Bakemonogatari is basically the more supernatural (Yahari is pretty much just another HS anime) and higher quality in every way version of Love Comedy but if you love the type of characters the leads are you will still enjoy Love Comedy a great deal.

Any excuse to recommend FLCL, honestly though if you were impressed with the high pacing of the animation in Soul Eater and you thought the humor worked you owe it to check out FLCL. The stories are about completely different things but what Soul Eater did fairly well FLCL perfects in terms of animation, music and humor.

Similar frenetic art pacing and flashy combat. TTGL does everything Soul Eater does but better and with a little more adult flair to the story.
