No, LOGH isn't really similar to Macross. But it is to Robotech, wich unfortunately is not on the list. Both series are long space epics with lots of characters and untimely deaths. Both have evolving settings and huge end-season twists, where important events have serious consequences that will affect the rest of the series. Both have a narrator who explains the plot like it was a documentary about historical facts. Both have soldiers dying by the thousands because of incompetent leaders. Both have political intrigue and an interesting and politically incorrect take on fascism. Both are Gundam successors about the horrors of war.

Cowboy Bebop's basically a serious take on the first Lupin III series (mixed with some Genesis Climber MOSPEADA nostalgic sci-fi elements). Spike's Lupin (and Pun), Jet's Jigen, Faye and Julia are both Fuyiko, and Vicius' Goemon right before joining Lupin's gang (they even had the same kind of gun vs sword duel, followed by a scene of our heavily bandaged hero lamenting himself). Borderline plagiarism.

Both are episodic sci-fi shows about nostalgic main characters tormented by their past. Cowbow Bebop references Mospeada a lot, like in the way its episodes are titled, or with characters like Ed (acting as the heart of the group, just like Mint) or his father Appledelhi (who's basically muscle-Ray, a happy person because he never thinks of his past), and maybe even Gren (Yellow Belmont?).
