Did I think that 2024 would deliver the worst precure season of all time after giving us one of the best? No, but let me tell you why this show is terrible and you should skip it entirely if you're new to precure.
1. Characters
The entire show hinges on this human-animal duo premise. On the surface, I can get behind this idea. I love the idea of helping kids learn about animals and how important they can be as pets.
However, it falls flat when the main character is stupid as rocks. She acts like a dog, talks like a dog, and quite literally is unbearable. I
...
absolutely despise Wonderful as the lead character, and I feel like making her stupider than any other magical girl makes her feel like she belongs in another show than a series about girl power.
Friendy, her owner, is slightly better, but not by much. Friendy is just...a nice girl. But also a really dumb one as well. She can't keep her secret of bring a precure at all. Which defeats the charm of magical girl anime.
Then we have cure Lillian, the best character in the entire show. Shy, not confident and wants to make friends. But Lillian is surrounded by idiots, and she doesn't become a precure for a long time. It's unbearably long before we get any progress on her joining the team.
Nyammy is the ice queen kitty. She's okay, but also acts unnecessarily mean in a kids show. She comes across as someone I think I would've liked if they gave her more charm. Ugh.
The plot
What even is the plot? 20 episodes and we still have no idea. We get bad animals that they have to cure but we don't know where they are from or how they got to that state.
Even the most basic precures give us some sense of what's going on. But not Wonderful; they don't care because they just want to sell the makeup, the toys and the stuffed animals of every cute creature ever.
The no combat
Okay, so everyone defending the fact they have no combat doesn't understand why we like magical girls. Fighting evil by Moonlight in pretty outfits is FUN!
But there ain't no monsters to fight. We hug an animal, and put them into a box. In Wonderful Precure, I am convinced the animators didn't care about anything but toys. They said screw the combat, screw the plot, we are going to make millions on selling cute dogs and cats and other crap to little girls.
You can do better.
Go watch a la mode or tokyo mew mew
If you want a better anime with animal girls fighting evil. At least in those shows, the protagonist doesn't make you question if your dog is really that stupid.

There aren't a lot of mermaid mangas out there, and this probably has to be my favorite mermaid thing since mermaid melody. Its nice its finally a guy whose the merman...and he's SO adorable!
Story 8/10
Merman sees girl.
Merman falls in love with girl.
Merman makes a contract to give up his good looks.
Merman finds out he's a scrawny boy now as a human!
The story isn't re-inventing the wheel at all. But the thing about mermaid Boys is, well, it doesn't have to. This manga takes a comedic approach to the mermaid genre and really plays it up.
...
Character 8/10
One of my favorite parts about the manga is how there are other mermen besides Naru. Its good it isnt a rehash of the little mermaid and all the boys have their own reason to go on land and associate with humans.
The main female is also great. While she is swarmed with options, she isnt the terrible bland female protsgonist who lets the guys flirt with her. She hurts Naru, tells him he's a perv if he gets to far, and holds her own. She also has a wonderful backstory on how she is nervous swimming because of what the ocean reminds her of (you'll have to read the manga to find out! I dont want to spoil).
Enjoyment 10/10
The way the characters interact is hilarious. I laughed so hard at Naru's attempts to fit in as a human, from thinking underwear is a hat to just being a plain ol dork. they say love can make people a little crazy, and this manga does just that!
Overall 8/10
This manga changed my life. It fed my mermaid addiction with hot guys. If you want some great art with a fun story, I recommend to purchase it and support the artist who made this beautiful "tail."

Let's la Cooking!
Before we begin, I want to tell you the first manga I ever read was Tokyo Mew Mew. When I first saw this anime, I was excited. Let me tell you what a treat it has been to watch!
Story 5/10
The overall story is the weakest part of the anime. There's someone out there named Noir, but isn't really introduced but mentioned (at the time of this review). The villains are trying to steal the kirakira, the feelings found inside of food, and give it to Noir. Every episode the pretty cure rush in to save the day.
While the overarching story
...
is lacking, the individual stories each girl has to tell is wonderful. Ichika is looking forward to the day she meets her mother again, Akira is taking care of her little sister miku, and so on. The episodes focus more on fleshing out who the girls are and why they join the team, and I'm okay with that.
Art 8/10
The art for this season of pretty cure is simplified but still incredibly adorable. It fits the style of the anime and reminds me of slice of life anime. When the girls transform into the pretty cure, the sequences are beautiful. The girls are still glittery and sparkly as ever when they battle. This is one of the most beautifully animated magic girls in modern times.
Sound 8/10
I love the soundtrack for this show. I never skip the opening, and I found it to be catchy, cute, and easily one of my favorites in the series. I was very pleased to see the character's image songs were incorporated into the episodes. It is nice to see them used at the points when the girls discover something about themself.
Character 8/10
The cast of Kira Kira Pretty Cure a la mode is strong. Let me break them down for you.
Ichika: Cure Whip. She's energetic, bubbly, and hardworking. She will never give up and that is my favorite part about her. She is a strong main protagonist.
Himari. Cure Custard. She is shy yet loves to combine her passion for science, facts, and sweets.
Aoi. Cure Gelato. She is strong, passionate about music, and is the brawn in the group.
Yukari. Cure Macaron. She is reserved, thoughtful, and the smart one in the group.
Akira. Cure Chocolat. She is easily one of the most likeable characters because she is caring, practical, and someone I would want to be the leader in my friend group.
Ciel. Cure Parfait. She is a famous cook. She is a perfetionist yet passionate and kind to everyone who admires her talent.
Enjoyment 8/10
While the cast is very different yet similar to Tokyo Mew Mew, I found this to be one of the best ways to relive my childhood. I enjoy the emphasis on cooking and friendship, whereas Tokyo Mew Mew had more of an emphasis on stopping the aliens and fighting the Chimera animals. I am able to get something out of it and I believe this is the next best thing to Tokyo Mew Mew.
Over 7/10
I highly recommend anyone who loves magic girl or Tokyo Mew Mew to watch this show. It is still strong. An alternative recommendation would be Go! Princess Precure or Sailor Moon. Both of those shows have a strong female cast and emphasize character development.

This anime was a part of my childhood, and so I decided to watch this movie for nostalgia.
It was such a disappointment.
Story 3/10
The story is there are some pillars falling from the sky and that is causing Munto's kingdom to fall. His world resides in an alternate dimension. However, there is only one girl on earth who can see Munto's dimension as well as the flying pillars, and she is the only one who can "save the world." Munto has to convince her to cross over into his dimension and help him.
This premise is incredibly interesting in theory but this movie does
...
not do justice for the plot. In fact, there is quite a bit of filler in this movie. There's an entire side plot about a girl who wants to get married to this guy that has nothing to do with the story, there's interesting characters in Munto's world who are never developed/explained, and there is some evil organization with no plot or backstory whatsoever trying to destroy Munto's kingdom.
Art 6/10
The art is very pretty to look at. I loved the designs of the dresses and how they flowed. There are some scenes in Munto that are beautiful to watch, but unfortunately some of the frames last a long time for no reason other than to save animation budget.
Sound 3/10
This was the most awkward part of Munto. There wasn't any sound during some of the parts, which made it feel...lifeless. The voice acting was fine, but I felt it was too quiet for an anime.
Character 2/10
This show has the worst type of characterization a writer could ever do. There's the kindhearted main protagonist, the stubborn but good natured Munto, etc. No one ever changes, grows, or is explained. They are all shells of character arctypes that could've been interesting but go absolutely nowhere.
Enjoyment 3/10
The only enjoyment I had was making fun of some of the scenes....and wanting to bang my head because I loved the 9-episode show as a child.
Overall 4/10
With an interesting premise but severely terrible storytelling, I feel this show could use a reboot that fleshes out the main characters and focuses on the story. If you want a mythical world with dashing young heroes and swordplay, I think you could do better elsewhere.

13 Boys. 1 Girl.
When I first saw this anime, I wondered to myself, "Is this going to be a good idea?"
Story 3/10
The story is as bare-bones as you can get. Ema, the main protagonist, moves into her new mother's house before the wedding between the new mother and her father. In the house, she meets her 13 step brothers and each one develops a crush on her throughout the series.
While the plot can be explained in a matter of sentences, this anime focused more on the development of each brother and how they develop feelings for Ema. I really enjoyed this "slice-of-life"
...
harem aspect to the anime even if there wasn't an overall narrative.
Sound 8/10
The sound of brothers conflict is amazing! The opening theme is incredibly catchy and I love how every brother has a different colored flower. The ending theme now one of my favorite endings in anime history because it is catchy, cute, and I always love to sing along with it. The dance the brothers do is awesome as well.
Character 8/10
The show focuses heavily on developing the brothers, which I felt this show did incredibly well. There's a different brother for every type of girl: Subaru, the sporty brother; Fuuto, the stubborn pop idol; The triplets, two of which are identical twins and voice actors and Natsume the game developer; Louis, the hairstylist who can understand animals; Kaname, the perverted monk; and so on.
There's also a little squirrel named Juli who acts as Ema's guardian. I liked his character and loved how he always hissed and clawed the brothers.
Ema herself is a very kindhearted girl who just wants to be part of the family. She's never had brothers before, and she enjoys learning about them and getting to know them. She is always nice and sweet, and the only part I don't like about her is she never makes mistakes. As a character, she is consistent, but we never see grow or change. This is perhaps most likely due to the fact she is supposed to be a kind of avatar for girls to picture themself as and live in the fantasy of having 13 brothers.
Enjoyment 8/10
I really enjoyed this anime. Every episode I was excited to see which brother we would get to learn more about and where Ema's life would lead. The only thing that's weird is that they are supposed to be her brothers and they like her....but I guess that's part of the fantasy. After all, with games like Fire Emblem Fates, Japan seems to have developed some kind of attachment to forbidden romance.
Overall 7/10
This was pretty good for a reverse harem. If you enjoyed this anime, I would recommend Kagami no Asobi, a show that features 1 girl surrounded by 6 gods. It is more plot oriented than Brothers Conflict, but it is good for someone thirsting for more.
Thank you for reading!

Welcome to the town where stories come to life.
Story 9/10
The story is simple: a duck is brought into the story by the author and is given the power to turn into Princess Tutu in order to restore Prince Myuuto's heart. However, despite the concept being simple, this anime runs a lot deeper than that: it deals with themes such as suffering, fate, right/wrong, love, and happy endings. Like traditional magic girl, Duck transforms into Princess Tutu every episode to help people with her magical dancing.
Art 9/10
The art felt like a fairy tale and I loved the art style of this show. The
...
school uniforms the girls wear look like tutus and it really pretty to look at.
Sound 8/10
The sound was beautiful and most of it was dancing themed.
Character 8/10
I love the portrayal of the characters in this show. Without going too much into detail, everybody is not who they appear in the first few episodes. The first half of the anime makes it feel like a traditional magic girl, but the second half is when the character's true selves come out.
One part I didn't like about the characters was some of them were annoying. Some of the characters are randomly animals while others are just plain annoying (I found Duck's friends to be extremely annoying)
Enjoyment 10/10
I was hardly bored watching each episode. In fact, I was excited to see the heart shard of the week and what would happen next. The second half was extremely addicting.
Overall 9/10
If you are a fan of magic girl, this show is a must-watch! I would recommend this show to people who have enjoyed Sailor Moon, Mermaid Melody, and Cardcaptor Sakura.

Pretty Cure ~ A series full of beautiful girls who can also kick some serious butt.
This movie showcases them all up until the Go! Princess Pretty Cure season, and it is an awful disappointment.
Story 2/10
I've never watched a movie in my life without a story until this one. The plot is all the girls are invited to the kingdom of Harmonia, and some goons want to steal their pretty cure mascots and transformation devices. In order to distract the pretty cure, they have them sing their theme songs. That's it. There's really nothing else to it.
I felt this was more a showcase
...
of all the different pretty cure seasons than a movie. The cinematics were cute, but it was the same songs we've heard already from each season.
Art 4/10
The animation was decent, but the "routines" was recycled animations from the different seasons. The best part was the big song that all the pretty cures sing together.
Sound 2/10
Recycled tracked with only a few new numbers, which were good but not enough to make up for the rest of the movie.
Character 1/10
No one was developed. You have no idea who anyone is supposed to be unless you've seen the series before. The movie doesn't add anything new to any of them either.
Enjoyment 3/10
I liked the music videos.
Overall 3/10
I don't recommend this movie for anyone. You can find a playlist on youtube of all the pretty cure opening and endings, and it would serve the same purpose.

Strong, Kind, and Beautiful.
Aim for your dreams. Go! Princess Precure!
Ladies and Gentlemen, this is one my favorite magic girl anime released in a long time.
Story 7/10
The story of Go! Princess Precure revolves around three young middle school girls who each have dreams they want to fulfill. Haruka wants to be a princess,
...
Kirara wants to be a model, and Minami is thinking about taking over her parent's company. Haruka meets Princes Katana, who tells her that she can be a princess and anything she wants to be.
The world is in trouble though. Dyspear and her minions are looking to steal people's dreams by locking them up and using their power to destroy the world. Haruka transforms into Cure Flora, and uses her powers to help save the day and restore everyone's dreams!
The story was episodic, but I loved this factor. It gave the audience a chance to learn about the dreams of the main and supporting characters, something that helped fuel the story and made the precure's fight relateable.
Art 9/10
I LOVED the art of Go! Princess Precure. From elegant dresses to beautiful transformations, this is by far one of my favorite art styles of all time. I really enjoyed the bright colors of each character and I didn't really see any mistakes.
The one thing I didn't like about the artwork was making some of the weapons look like the toys they were selling, but I can forgive it as Toei is a marketing empire when it comes to selling merchandise!
Sound 8/10
The soundtrack to this anime is absolutely gorgeous. The violin is the main instrument, which was very princesslike and fitting.
The opening is one of my favorite anime tracks to date. It's catchy, cute, and fits the show. I never skipped it, and I loved how the opening changed as new things were happening.
Character 8/10
Every single main character was well developed. I will break down the main ones without spoilers.
Haruka (Cure Flora): A young girl who works hard at whatever she does, whether it's learning to be a princess or her high school studies. Personally, I think she is the epitome of what magic girl role models should be: telling girls they need to work hard and believe in themselves.
Kirara (Cure Twinkle): A model who has an incredibly busy schedule, and can sometimes be a little diva. She's one of the funnest characters in the show, who is just wanting live up to the expectations she has laid out for her.
Minami (Cure Mermaid): The slowest to develop. She's smart, beautiful, and seemingly perfect; except she doesn't know what her dream is, and is soul searching for it.
Aroma & Puff: The "Fairies" and the main mascots of the series. They are a butler and maid in training.
Prince Katana: One of the most refreshing male magic girl protagonists I've ever seen. He's not quite a love interest, but more of a support character for the girls. He helps the girls whenever he can, but he's not always perfect or right like magic boy protagonists/love interests in the past (and he's actually helpful!)
Enjoyment 8/10
I loved this show. I looked forward to watching it between my classes and didn't want to miss a single episode. I never skipped the transformations either, as they're gorgeous!
Overall 8/10
I highly recommend this show if you're looking for a magic girl. The one thing I will say is the show is aimed at a younger demographic, so don't expect some huge lifechanging plot. If you liked Sailor Moon, Mermaid Melody, or Tokyo Mew Mew, I recommend this for you. If you're more of a Madoka Magica or Flip Flappers fan, then I recommend to skip this one.
Thanks for reading!

Flip Flappers: One of the few anime I have watched where every episode, I say, "wow....." and wondered what was going to happen next.
Story: 6/10
The story follows two girls, Cocona and Papika, and their journeys through Pure Illusion. It is a magical girl anime where they transform into the "Flip Flappers," but it is not the magical girl element that is the focus, but the common themes associated with the genre, with friendship as the main theme. The girl's friendship is tested time and time again, and every time they go to Pure Illlusion, we learn more about their and their bond.
Unfortunately, the
...
main storyline suffers from being quite subtle. For an anime with heavy imagery, it favors having the audience put everything together over keeping a straight storyline. The main plot isn't introduced until the second half, and many of the characters are put in the background in favor of the main three characters, Cocona, Papika, and Yayaka. I felt that characters such as the twins and the "evil organization" had little time to develop and play any sort of significant role in the story.
Character: 5/10
I loved the characters, but I wished we got to know more about the other characters in the Flip Flapper organization. Let me break the main ones down for you though:
Cocona: The main character. She's rational, afraid of making decisions, and indecisive. She has a kind heart and wants to do the right thing.
Papika: Childish, loves adventuring, and has no sense danger. Her spunkiness is her charm and biggest flaw.
Yayaka: Strong-willed, determined, and knows exactly what she wants. She'll do anything to feel like she belongs.
I loved how the characters were all foils of each other, with Papika being incredibly childish, and Yayaka being the most adultlike, and Cocona somewhere in the middle. However, they all struggle with their feelings and conflicted between right and wrong, and we watch the characters grow through the story, which was very charming.
However, all the other characters has little to no development, but generic character arctypes. There's the crazy scientist, the artist, and that one generic guy in a Ku Klux Klan hat who does nothing but pretend to play an important role in the story.
And then there's the Pure Illusion characters. Since the girls travel to a different world every episode, these characters received almost no love at all after their episode. (If you've watched the show, I wanted to learn more about "Pops," the scientist of Pure Illusion. He was so cool!)
Sound: 9/10
I loved the soundtrack to this anime. It was fun, bubbly, and fit the show. The opening is incredibly catchy, and I never skipped it. The ending gave me goosebumps after the episodes.
Art: 9/10
This show deserves an award. I loved the colors, from Cocona and Papika having contrasting hair colors to the fun, craziness of Pure Illusion.
Enjoyment: 9/10
Just because I felt the other characters weren't developed doesn't mean I didn't enjoy this ride. While I believe the story suffers, this show is incredibly fun to watch. There's an episode where they even go Power Rangers style and make a big robot to save the day.
Each individual episode has its own world, and I enjoyed the interactions the girls had with the citizens of Pure Illusion.
Overall, this show is worth a watch if like shows like Madoka Magica, or are interested in Magic Girl in general. It has a nice spin on the genre, and I highly recommend it for its strengths.

Ah yes, Sengoku Musou: The ever-lovable hack-n'-slash series known as Samurai Warriors in the west. This anime takes everything that I love about the characters in this series, animates them in eye-catching 3D, only to disappoint me with the lack of effort put into the characters and story.
The events are loosely based on the Sengoku era, and I felt that they stayed in their comfort zone a bit too much. They didn't really add anything new to the story or develop the characters at all. In fact, I felt that they just wanted to have cameos of their "top" characters, such as Mitsunari instead
...
of focusing on developing them. I feel the anime could have been so much better if they expanded more on the idea of the "Honor Trio" (Yukimura-Kanetsugu-Mitsunari) as well as bring out the other characters a little more before they die or are shoved into the background.
In fact, I felt the characters were just copy-pasted from the game, and we did not see too much more from them. The feud between Yukimura and Nobuyuki felt a little flat to me. I feltl that a little bit more distress, heartache, and torment would come from fighting your own brother in war. They were very stoic about it, and never seemed to question the other one. Other characters such as Masamune, Kai, Takatora, Yoshitsugu, etc. did not get much screen time at all, and were just "there." Only a handful of characters were important, and so much was happening that the focus of the story fell short.
The fights were also very cheap, and we barely saw the characters wailing on each other. I think the anime could have had a LOT of potential if they animated the character fights better. That is, after all, the entire point of samurai warriors! I felt little to no remorse whenever they killed someone, and was often disappointed with the lack of action. A lot of the time, the characters would just stand around and talk to each other. What kind of anime is that? Where's the action, the romance, the heartache?
Are there any redeeming qualities to this anime? I'd say if you like the Sengoku Era, Samurai Warriors, or just in general into Japanese history, I'd give it a shot. But if you are looking for an actiony shonen with epic fight scenes, you are better off watching Soul Eater or Fairy Tail.
