Whether you have just finished Zipang and had the itch for more maritime warfare, or perhaps you felt Silent Service wasn't long enough to satisfy your desire for naval warfare, then I highly recommend you watch both of these gems which were wrote by Kaiji Kawaguchi. Both contain a naval-heavy setting, which submarines, cruisers, and aircraft carriars to boot. They explore the tensions of the pacific both in World War II (Zipang), and in more recent history (Silent Service). There are multiple skirmishes between the Americans and the Japanese navy in both, and the relations between the two nations are explored through peace and war. The choices of the characters which perhaps have only known peace, are plunged into a state of open hostilities in both, and some of the characters in each are comparable aswell, for example Kaieda from Silent Service has a similar set of ideals to Kusaka from Zipang. As they were adapted by similar source material, the character design and art-style are quite similar between them. Both are a must-watch if you enjoyed either of them. Both also have English dubs too despite being not-well known.

If either of these shows tickled your fancy, and you were drawn in by the shounen inspired battles, or the drive of the main characters to become the very best and eclipse the skills of all the others, or maybe you were just there to enjoy a bit of ecchi, then it's likely the other one is gonna appease you aswell. Both shows follow a dark-horse of a main character, whose mix of skills and drive takes them through the ranks and shocks the world around them. While Keijo is a sports based show, Shokugeki no Soma has a sport like feel to it, with tournaments, epic battles and rivalries between the characters. There is no shortage of humour in either of the shows, and both take place in an academy designed to home their specific skills, wheres only the strongest can survive. The battles are endless, without break, so you will never be disappointed for lack of interesting content. Whether you like food or butts, you'll be satisfied with what is presented on your plate if you enjoyed one of these shows.

Both are Horror shows with a long build up to quite a bloody conclusion. They have some intense moments throughout the show, and some shocking scenes of characters deaths, some of which in quite a creative fashion. If you liked the idea of a mysterious girl who is linked to "death" in another, then you'll enjoy a similar premise in Shiki, and vice-versus. Both have a very Erie vibe throughout the show, with the use of sound and grim visuals, and builds up a spooky and mysterious setting. The locations of the shows are in more isolated locations.

Nejimaki Seirei Senki: Tenkyou no Alderamin

Both shows are set in a steampunk world, where the main weapons being used are swords, rifles and canons in both. Both anime feature a fair amount of blood and gore within the battle scenes, and the colour toning and mood feels similar (the use of oranges and sunset colours). Both shows like to go into detail about the strategies used in some of the battles and spends a lot of time on them. Both also feature a short 'training arc' and then goes straight into the action on the front lines. Both shows also have a 'sister-type' figure who is very strong and skilled with the blade, and wants to protect the main character.

Both series are set in an alternate "world war" scenario, where the main character is forced to command a team of soldiers to fight, despite actually disliking war. The main characters in both are also slightly quirky, sticking out from their comrades and showing great strategy and leadership skills. Valkyria Chronicles has a similar setting to world war 2, with tanks, however Alderamin goes for a slightly 'steampunk' approach with canons, rifles, airships and sword fighting. The animation style between the two shows also feels slightly similar, and the character designs are often colourful. They both have a similar feel, and if you enjoyed one it's likely you'll enjoy the other.

Both shows have a theme of what happens after death. Decim's idea of having a fulfilled life in Death Parade is similar to the moral from Colorful. Both explore a more mentality side of things as opposed to an action.

Love Military? Love war? Love alternate history? Then, if you've watched either of these anime's, then i'm sure that you're gonna love the other one. Valkyria Chronicles focuses on the alternate world aspect, with tanks etc. and contains some Romance, whereas Zipang focuses on what would happen if you were sent back in time, and had the chance to change history and turn the favor of a war.

Both contain heavy references to military warfare, and contain an important military theme throughout the shows. Both also contain naval heavy plots, however Full Metal Panic also contains more slice of life, as opposed to Zipang's more thought provoking and interesting plot.
