solid comedy with an amazing level of back story and good steady character development. This show balanced comedy with serious moral questions and a little drama in a very smooth way, not many shows do that well, most stick to being primarily one thing or another, like a comedy where they might have a serious episode or story arc over a couple episodes but sticks to comedy the rest of the time, very few writers have the skill to mix and balance a serious overall plot with a show that has episodic short sub plots and a gag comedy front. The devil is a part
...
timer pulls this off though. You get the best of both worlds, each episode has a feeling of conclusion for that days antics, but you advance the main plot a little and want to see more, and the jokes keep a light tone to balance against the honestly morbid history and background of the characters involved. Overall, a very enjoyable series.
Now, on to specifics:
Story: 8
While not fresh or terribly unique, it's solid and well written.
Art: 6.5
The quality is on par with the majority of titles released at that time, it's decent, not outstanding, but not lacking in any way. Overall I rate it fair to good, but nothing stands out to give it more than that.
Sound: 5
While nothing stood out as being badly done, the music and sound effects felt generic, nothing in the way of memorable
Characters: 6
Of course, as with many anime, the characters all fall into one of the many steryotypical architectures. They have a little unique flare here and there, but their personality types have all been seen before. The real treat here is the way they play off each other, and how the types are grouped up.
Enjoyment: 7
I nearly put this at an 8, this show was very enjoyable as far as it went, but the way it just cuts off and ends with nothing in the way of a conclusion leaves you hanging.
Overall: 6.5
This needed one more season, it really did, the last episode wasn't even a proper ending, it just felt like another mid season episode. There was plenty of plot left, character development to go through, and history to explore, but none of that happened. It's obvious this was written intending far more, at a minimum another 12 to 13 episodes, but it didn't get there. A continuation would bump the first seasons score up to a solid 7 or better, but the way were left with a completely unsatisfying lack of resolution hurts the score pretty bad.
Really, it was a good show, and I had hoped for more, but as it stands, I am left somewhat conflicted. I enjoyed watching, I wanted to come away maintaining that feeling of enjoyment, but it was half done, so that enjoyment has been overshadowed by disappointment since a second season is clearly not happening. Still worth watching, but know up front that if you do like it, you will not find satisfaction in the end.

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is not a great tale of romance, it is not a fantastic slice of life, it isn't a harem comedy, it's not an amazing unique or innovative series.
It IS a good series though.
What Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun brings to the table is a solid bit of comedy in a scenario that surprisingly HASN'T been done to death. Specifically, single girl has crush on a guy, no other love interests on either side are getting in the way, and a combination of shyness on her part, and obliviousness on his part, combined with mutual miscommunications is the groundwork that the show builds on.
And
...
what does it build? Slapstick, physical comedy, gags, a little cute romance here and there, a lot of laughs, all wrapped up in a tight 12 episode package that went by fast, left me wanting a little more, but overall was a satisfying and enjoyable experience.
::MINOR SPOILERS::
Story:
Really basic, girl likes boy, boy is apparently dumb as a brick, girl tries to get closer and confess to boy, crazy miscommunications and shy half said phrases occur, girl winds up becoming boy's beta coloring assistant to his monthly girls manga. Wait what? Yup, she falls for the guy who writes a manga she really enjoys, and winds up helping him color the black fill in areas while he does the line art and story.
A few more characters, some involved with his work, some not, are introduced along the way, everyone gets into whacky incidents while going about daily school life, usually because they are misreading situations, or are just comically dim witted when it comes to communication or relationships. And that's about it, it's a whole lot of jokes and gags and so on based on this group and our two main characters being perfectly capable of leading a normal life except when it comes to romance or communication between those of different genders. And that winds up with a lot of actual laughing out loud going on as you watch, really, the humor is well paced, the long running gags don't have time to get stale since it's only 12 episodes, and the one off slapstick moments are spread out and paced well to keep you alternating between solid laughing and quick snorts and chuckles with some breathing time along the way.
Art:
Fairly typical for a TV Tokyo mid level budget afternoon short single season show.
I will say this though, the backgrounds and attention to details were above what you expect for something in the RomCom comedy genre.
Sound:
Good, the music was fitting, and while nothing stood out as particularly amazing, nothing came off as poorly done either, overall a soundtrack should be a compliment to a show, but not a focus unless it's a music based genre, and in that way I really compliment the creators for accomplishing exactly that. The SFX were pretty standard fair, nothing stood out as particularly great or bad, it was all just done in a decent way.
Characters:
Lets be honest, the characters are fun, even a little unique, in fact they all take a base of some trope or another, then add a twist or two to give them a little complexity, and while the characters don't really develop too much over the course of the show, in fat they all pretty much are the same from their introduction through the end, they are fun and interesting.
Enjoyment:
thumbs up here, I came in expecting a generic RomCom, I came away with a smile and got a bit more than expected. Short sweet and simple, good blend of laughs and sighs, funny and a little touching at just the right moments, and especially funny when those touching moments are immediately dashed by a misunderstanding or miscommunication that leads to one party coming out of it with the completely opposite idea about what just happened.
Overall:
If you want a quick series to watch for a few laughs without being really invested in it, something to toss an episode or two on in your free time now and then, this is just right.
The only downside is the ending
(SPOILER) (SPOILER) (SPOILER)
Completely expected given the tone of the series, but the conclusion is a solid minute and a half of suspense leading not to the touching end where a confession is given and a reply of sharing comes out, no, its misheard and surprise, a giant tease as the reply is nice but on a completely different subject than what you thought. So yet again a RomCom where nothing is tied up and were left with the standard "everything continued as it's been for who knows how long".
Because that's how anime RomComs work right? Blue balled right to the end on that main relationship, we almost never get a real "the end" one way or another haha.

Quick and dirty review time!
Really, they tote this as a Cthulhu Mythos based anime, but the only connection to the mythos I know is a couple names of ancient psychic outer god alien beings slapped onto teenager characters who are some kind of space cop aliens living on earth, thats about it. Beyond that, a handful of references and a couple gags relating to the dice and paper RPG are all that tie this into the mythos at all. It's funny, kind of twisted, but overall nothing special, yet another cute romantic comedy with a harem theme based around a normal everyday teenage boy who
...
is pulled into a fantastic situation that results in him being involved with cute girls that all end up part of his daily life in some way for the rest of the show. Also, like most harem anime, he is some kind of super being with a freakish level of willpower, just like the main character of every damn harem anime, because he refuses to give into his desires and have any kind of intimate contact with any of the multiple very attractive women literally climbing naked into his bed at every opportunity. I swear Japan has the weirdest ideas about teenage boys and the kind of restraint they are capable of. Inhuman. These kids could put Buddhist monks to shame.
But yah, the jokes here are a little more to my liking than most being somewhat more "edgy" than your average fan service driven romantic comedy. It's one of the first to have a very well integrated gay theme on the harem side of things that gets actual consideration rather than just being a joke character thats immediately shot, beaten, or thrown out the moment they show up and make a pass at the male lead. This one gets some cute awkward "what if" moments and generally gets as much care and attention from the main character as the female options. Overall, worth watching I would say.

This anime may seem like just another gross gag anime with fan service slapped on to draw in the soft core fanboys, but looking at it again, wow. This really does take an interesting look at fetishes and abnormal sexual psychology, while the humor is great and can be enjoyed on a no brainer level by all, the real treat is the insight into perversions and the subculture surrounding them. Sadly it's all a bit rushed and crammed together being a short series, lightly touching on as many different fetish subjects as it can in the time given. Going to a light covering of a
...
broad spectrum of them rather than in depth analysis of a few specifics. Really worth watching in my opinion.
Story: 6
While it's an awesome idea, the execution felt rushed and bounced around far to much.
Art: 7
Quality is consistent and decent
Sound: 8
While the music was less than memorable, the sound effects, especially those related to perverted acts, were excellent and detailed, unlike the canned squishing noises most hentai use.
Characters: 8
While I wish they had more time to develop and play out their interactions, the characters were all interesting, multi layered, and very appealing in their distinct differences from each other
Enjoyment: 7.
Would have scored higher if it had gone on longer, letting all the interesting interactions between the characters play out to conclusions, I'm left feeling like this was a first season setting up for a 2nd or 3rd to play it all out rather than a finished product.
Overall: 7
Better than expected, worth watching, but you might want to be careful who you invite to enjoy it with you!

Unlike most reviewers I saw so far, I came for the tits, and stayed for the story. eechii can be found all over the place, and much of it with excellent art, but it's a rare gem I found in this title, it was actually a fairly engaging plot, well developed characters, and overall, it turned out to be a good show. The jiggling, reminiscent of classics such as Burnup and plastic little. (which if you were a fan who collected DVD's back then like me, you will recall actually had jiggle counters on the special features in the ADV releases)
Well, all I can say
...
is this was a fresh take on that, and despite being a new show, it ended up making me feel a tad nostalgic for those kinds of titles. It's a great series with fanservice thrown into the mix and integrated into it in a way that makes it part of the whole thing instead of just being tits for the sake of tits.
Worth a watch, even if you aren't into the eechii.

The picture should be a dead giveaway of what you're getting yourself into: bunny ears, nurse outfits, and lots of pink. It's fanservice and jokes, their was never any depth intended, and anyone taking this show seriously is a fool.
Nurse Witch Komugi is a parody-laden romp laced with sight gags, slapstick and sheer randomness. And like Excel Saga it works pretty well. References to other anime are frequent and often hilarious, and Komugi makes an over-excitable but likeable lead character. The series is pretty much made up of stand-alone stories, with Komugi having to face a different problem in each episode, which
...
usually start with her doing a job for her modelling agency before everything goes wrong and she has to change into Nurse Witch Komugi. It may be a bit formulaic if it was done over a long series but over the six episodes, it stays entertaining without becoming too predictable.
It's hard to analyze the story of Nurse Witch Komugi when there is no story to speak of. Boob jokes and fan service pepper this show like Naruto headbands at Anime Expo.
This is a show that's neither plot-driven nor character-driven, but exists only as eye candy and comedy.
The artwork is higher end quality, but not original. Even Mugimaru, the obligatory cute animal mascot, looks like a reject from the Di Gi Charat cast. The real work that goes into the visuals is in rendering the cosplay outfits with detail, and cosplay is inherently not original, so thats kind of the point.
On the bright side the artwork is the crisp, high-contrast color scheme, despite being a touch on the simple and kiddy end of the spectrum (think again back to di gi charat). The animation is decent on the number of frames vs motion, it moves smooth enough to give a flowing feeling and it actually pulls off the exaggerated, comedic action quite well, unlike some anime where actions are stiff and walking is like watching a sticky pad flip art.
Overall, this show is worth watching if you enjoy things like popotan, puni puni poemi, excel saga, and sailor victory, but if you took a look at the dvd cover art and had any expectation of an anime with any depth, you entirely missed the point here.

Its hentai, and dark violent hentai at that.
The opening scene pretty much sets the tone, demon rapes school girl, she is "wrong" or somehow not powerfull enough of a host for his "seed" and her womb explodes upon climax and paints the walls of the bedroom this rape takes place in, personally, not my thing, but if you like gore, tentacle rape, and hideous monsters violating tender young women, then this is your show.

A well made parody anime mocking its fellows from years before, it takes a well thought out and wicked jab at genres like the simpleminded heroine, evil organizations and small task forces dedicated to fighting them in place of the normal police, super human and mecha anime, drunken but heart of gold head of staff, a department full of misfits, all of them steryotypes that get a good ribbing out of this show.
They break the 4th wall and make a mockery of advertisement and product placement in such a blatant way, that its actually effective!
Its definitely light hearted, and basic story line, several more in
...
depth plot lines were hinted at but since it was cut to a 2 episode miniseries everything was pretty much left out if it wasn't going to be finished in those 2 episodes.
Classic late 80's early 90's style humor and the animation is surprisingly good for a low budget short run at the time it was made.
I recommend it for people who are fans of the classic light humor anime of the era.
But dont think that just because its a joke its not well written, the characters stand out and I found myself feeling for the main character quickly, all of them develop well, even in so short a show.
Much lighter of a story than Masami Yuki's typical stuff, but if you like comedy, or are into Masami Yuki's work, and are in the mood for something on the lighter side, then give it a try.
This is one of those not to well known gems that I have come to realize, I was damn lucky to have picked it up all those years ago. I still bring it out to show friends when they haven't seen it themselves.

A story about a fairly timid boy who gets involved with otaku society through a school club.
Really, there have been few shows or movies about Otaku, and many are of the style showing otaku-ism as a dark thing one must overcome to rejoin society, often ending with the main character getting a girlfriend who leads him away from that seedy realm of obsession This seems to be on the lighter side of things, instead we find a boy who has an interest in anime and games (and hentai) but has rarely expressed himself due to a lack of friends with outspoken interests on par.
He joins
...
the club, has fun, sees some of the nice and some of the not so nice aspects of the culture, and overall has a better time because of it.
Now to the review:
Honestly I felt this could have been better if it were longer, the character development felt rushed and many sub plots were alluded to, by did not develop.
The art and sound were great, in fact, the detail they put into making videogame sounds for when they had one playing in the room was a nice touch.
But do to the limit of 12 episodes they really forced the story in a jerking leaping way, using large and obvious plot devices to establish something that if given more time to tell it could have been subtle and more involving.
There was depth intended here, I can see allot of the statements they wanted people to get, but slamming it in our faces quick and without proper buildup really took away from the quality of that message.
Over all worth watching if you fancy yourself an otaku, and even if your not it puts it out there in such a way that you'd get the idea without the background knowledge.
A warning though, many will come away feeling that it oversimplified and forced to much of its story out in a choppy way. Really, I would have liked to see this in a longer series, I think the writer would have shown his skill much better if given time.
The manga managed to give a much deeper feel to the whole thing, Id say if you haven't read it, watch the anime first, then pick the manga up, I don't think doing it the other way around was as satisfying as it could have been.
