Bloody battle royales between many superpowered characters. In both anime, many characters die, sometimes gruesomely. Both battle royales are organized by shady governments. Juuni Taisen's participants are representatives of the 12 Zodiac signs, while Ikusei Keikaku's are 16 magical girls who need to kill each other because their number need to be reduced. Both are action-oriented and dark.

Juuni Taisen

Both Juuni Taisen and Etotama's characters are based on the 12 chinese Zodiac and have fights between them. But while Juuni Taisen is serious, darker and most of its characters have tragic backstories, Etotama is comedic, light-hearted, parodies several anime tropes and the characters are colorful. In Juuni Taisen, the Zodiac representatives fight in a battle royale to have a with granted. In Etotama, the characters are literally the Zodiac spirits and the protagonist (Nyaa-tan) is a minor spirit who wants to join the main 12, and so has to make all of them acknowledge her power by beating them. Finally, both have very good visuals and action, Juuni Taisen handling the grim atmosphere well in a 2D environment, while Etotama switches between regular 2D visuals for comedy/SoL scenes and gorgeous and astoundingly well-animated action in 3D.

Isshuukan Friends.
add

Both series deal with love, and have an important female character losing her memories in a set cycle. The protagonist of Isshuukan helps the memory-losing girl in a similar way to Renji helping Chihiro. Ef is more serious and sadder, while Isshuukan is more innocent, light-hearted and has comedy. While sometimes with a similar feel, Isshuukan's artstyle is soft and soothing, compared to Ef's more out-there and camera work-oriented visuals.
