While this series is to no surprise heavily inspired by MonMusu
It feels rather empty, the sole twist is that MC is a doctor living in Middle Ages inspired town
From discussions and talking with few people that read some of the material this adaptation is rather bad, they sacrificed intricate world building details for forced plain generic ecchi scenes that dont even deliver, especially with PG-13 rating
Hell they even went and included a small SM scene of all things that came out of nowhere
Most tropes included felt like they are grasping for straws, trying to do much but every attempt failing to properly deliver while trying
...
to cover as many "Bases" as they can to appease as many people as possible
Ecchi in the adaptation feels extremely forced and sometimes absolutely unnecessary, medical theme if anything should lean towards "natural" ecchi occurrences as medicine can be rather intimate
However adaptation uses physical examination segments just to make characters aroused or moan constantly without any real reason unless its a character we will only see few more times
Quite a lot of things were already gotten wrong about monsters and turned into unneeded moaning scenes like hoof trimming when we have real life examples...
Hooves are keratin based just like our nails and animals dont really feel them unless you cut too deep or there is infection, this is why horses and ect dont mind if we put nails into them to secure the horseshoes
Lightly touching harpy feathers again turned into moaning spree even then there are no nerves in the feathers, avians will only feel if you move the feather enough to disturb the base where they are attached to as base has nerves
Story is worse than quite a few other ecchi focused series
It starts extremely weak while trying to build up the character roster and only in last 1/3rd the adaptation picks up when there is actual plot point they had to build around.
Even the closing conclusion to the big plot point they kept building up for few episodes fell flat, they completely cut post event recovery period for most basic closure you can come up with
Any risks that would come from certain situations were ignored, nothing felt like it would go awry at all
Pacing was just overall not great
The biggest elephant in the room however about this adaptation, that is worse than them skipping world building and other important details is Animation
I have no clue if the budget was just peanuts and pocket lint, but animation quality was horrendous that somehow managed to scrape up the second half of adaptation, but was consistent in its inconsistency throughout whole adaptation...
Stuttery scene pan outs (i have checked multiple streaming different sources and they all been the same unless BD has it fixed)
MC missing frames in hes movements to just character changing detail within less than 60 seconds
Some background monsters looked mangled while standing to well detailed one and just completely frozen in time
Core characters often being rather expressionless
Displaced eyes or noses, sometimes eyes not being on same height while character is standing still facing straight towards the viewer
The list could go on and on, but ill stop here
Compared to MonMusu this was rather disappointing as "raunchy" scenes end as quick as they come up
There are so many varieties of monster girls to pick from yet Lamia is the closest to MC and rest of the cast is almost mirror match without Slime and Dullahan to MonMusu
Felt creatively dead and bellow your average show even for 2020, i got asked few times if im watching low quality hentai from 2000's while discussing this with friends
I personally wish they included more world building aspects and didnt waste our time with forced ecchi when it was not needed
When there was a major plot point it managed to scrape up something cohesive but cut out important parts which led into almost instantaneous event conclusion
Slime girl / Dryad assistant would've been better pick compared to Lamia, or any venomous monster due to use of venoms to create medicine
Great example of wasted potential even for an ecchi show...

This is honestly a weird adaptation
While i have not read the source material, i could tell that story is quite rushed
I wonder if its a problem with adaptation or with source material itself
Cut this adaptation in half like Phil Swift and it would been way better as pace could been made slower
The pace is like watching a drag race, you start the episode and the next moment episode is finished and you are left a bit confused where your time go or its 12-13min episode
Its not the "product" of being absorbed into the episode due to it being thanks to intricate yet well paced story
...
telling...
Its closer to bombarding you with so much content that its similar to TikTok's or Shorts
Not a good thing but certainly not a bad one to a degree
For example i didnt even knew this is Isekai series, i have not noticed a single mention of it. I was impressed this is more of a fantasy adventure anime
That might be me just missing it, but thats one of the problems of this high speed story telling
Character development was ok, no matter the series it always can be better..
Sadly due to pace of the anime some interaction consequences were not explored more which is a shame honestly
Post battle interactions and recovery is usually as interesting to see as the battles themselves
They did use some classic cliches that are tad bit overused and the time could been used to explore other aspects or even mention them
Battles were main focus ofc, and you can see they paid more attention to them, maybe it gets a bit stale due to the usual formula but overall good enough
OP was kinda OK pick, but ED... Idk its hard to put it in words.
Maybe it was picked to give you a brief moment to relax from the pace the adaptation was at
Sound design was ok, nothing too special but no bad easily noticeable mistakes
Animation was relatively consistent, there are flaws of course but mostly on background characters
Like sometimes MC's "lich core" looked more like png than something with depth
CGI was blended well enough for me to not see anything standing out too much unless i really looked for it
Overall 8/10
Better than average adaptation these days

Another fine example why "Studio A-CAT" should just cease to exist.
However i rather have them stay around so they dont taint other studios that actually manage to make something consistent and linear instead of butchering the material.
Sadly the cost of keeping them around is that some simple fun little stories get mangled adaptations while they have more potential even if you want to make a budget show.
I have not even read the material but could tell that there are so many cuts it would make people in self harm groups jealous....
As far as ive seen anime adapts 4 Light novel volumes into 12 episodes which
...
is already a red flag considering usually its 12/13 episodes per 2 LN volumes....
My god episode 1 was just tragic, last 5 minutes gives you a 1890's cinema experience with some "whimsical tunes" and first 17 minutes could have easily been wrapped into sub 10minute opening..
Hell it shouldnt even exist, if you skip episode 1 not only your viewing experience is improved, you dont miss any important details at all apart that setting is set in VRMMORPG and that players built and run nations in it.
If you ignore the tragedy that was the first episode, the show is your classic seasonal budget offering
Sadly while premise is rather simple and its clearly a slower story, Studio A-CAT decided its not happening and tried to speed up the pace which hurt the adaptation
Screen Writer and Storyboard Artist were probably picked up at elementary school or something because i cant imagine how fully functioning adult would mess up the story flow so bad
Animation is fine, CGI used is popping and sticks out like a sore thumb if not down right bad, budget show so cant expect much on the department, however there are shows which did it better even with bad budget because they cared to some degree
Action scenes really need some more polish but it passes as long as you dont look into them too much
Plenty of still frames, but its budget series staple
The background art goes from really good like some of the early indoor interiors that have some intricate patterns to cityscape segment being copy-pasted 12 times with occasional bits being turned sideways or even worse they add completely different style objects and mix it with other segments so they clash like crazy.
All character art stands out in the background just as bad as CGI enemies, so there was no effort in trying to blend the things in
Makes you wonder if they didnt just get some premade visual novel templates for the backgrounds from the internet...
Similar situation is with soundtrack, there is some nice background music but then they push their luck and play it when it doesnt even fit the scene
Background ambience really needed more love and bigger variety, characters speaking will mute rain sounds as example...
Voice acting is nothing special but it works out, doesnt meant it couldnt be better, not that it would have saved this show anyways...
The poor story... I feel bad for the author even if it was nothing too special of a story to begin with as Studio A-CAT just butchered and mangled it.
Who in the right mind would consider to cram 4 Volumes of Light novels into 12 episodes... It was asking for a disaster right from a get go
From subtle story content cuts to outright interaction skips between the episodes which then get added as small recaps when you need context for on going story currently on the screen...
Also the toilet breaks... Why would you even include bodily functions like that which give nothing to the story. Keep that stuff for LN or maybe do one joke about it but thats about it, at this point someone wanted to watch animated female MC answering natures call...
All that time they took animating toilet scenes could have been used at expanding any other part of world building
Truly a shame that the adaptation came to be like this, setting alone had quite a lot potential even with the cliches...
There are independent / animation school project pilot episodes on youtube that are better quality than this adaptation
If only more competent studio had taken this under their wing we could have had a really simple and fun budget show to relax and enjoy....
After long internal debate i give this a 6 for being bellow average even for budget shows...
But its really bordering the zone of "why do you even exist"

Anyways...
This is your generic seasonal "budget" isekai show
Its light and simple story with not much going on really, bordering a slow burner show to a degree
Didnt expected much from it but still managed to enjoy it even with its flaws.
Its the type of show you just dont think too hard and just chill and enjoy the ride
Art is fine with CGI here and there
Characters look fine for overall duration of the show but sometimes you could notice reused "Still frames", but considering the nature of this show its acceptable.
...
Action is done ok as well, sometimes some scenes could feel repetitive after some time
Ambient music is nothing too special really, OP and ED songs are fine (i prefer ED over OP personally)
I sometimes didnt even notice that there was some ambient music in the background playing
Story and the setting is fine for what it was, there were clearly some of the things cut in order to fit it all into 12 episode bracket and i bet they wish they could have done 13th episode but they just couldnt.
Quite a lot of Light novel adaptations overall beg to be +12 episodes because its more densely packed with events and some minor details that were important could be skipped compared to manga
Only part it really suffers is the story pacing and some intentional cuts when MC gets something new.
MC gets some new item and its shown, but we dont get told what it is and it cuts into next thing happening and the thing MC got is getting the reveal later in the episode as it solves some problem.
Really just classic storyboard mistake / technique in order to fill the gaps from cut dialogues and ect...
So its little bit everywhere sometimes and writing can be weak sometimes, but it could been a storyboard and screenwriter issues
(Hey at least we didnt get a recap episode with reused scenes in the middle of the show...)
So the premise of the story is basically:
In classic isekai fashion the MC died from overwork due to working in black company, we all seen plenty of shows that start like this.
This as classic opening as DnD campaigns with Tavern start, you cant really come up with anything new because its probably already been done and failed, plus everyone is tired of Truck-kun already honestly...
There is just not much you can do with isekai as setting when you have to come up with a way for MC to get into the new world with some backstory, its common trope because it just works so just deal with it
The World setting is somewhat interesting as basically everything is generated in dungeons as drop from monsters, that also includes money and food, if you can think of an item we use daily there is a dungeon with monster for it somewhere.
World outside towns is a wasteland, with not even trees growing so the civilization is dependent on dungeons for everything, which affects nations and appearance of new dungeons or change inside the dungeon could cause a big impact which is explored little bit in the story.
People in this world have predetermined "space" they can grow as there is level cap which differs from person to person.
Stats are based on ranking system from S to F
Each person also can be specialized in a way that they have a stat for drop rate of specific goods, the better the stat is the better drop you can get, their taste, texture smells and ect is affected by it. It seems like there are "Drop Brackets" basically.
For example:
F rank in vegetables would make that you would never get veggies from monsters that drops them normally
E rank would make you get small amounts of lower quality veggies that might just make do.
A rank would make you get good quantity of quality goods that are way above whatever you can get while having E rank in every aspect.
You rank can increase with level ups, sometimes your stats wont increase until you are near the said level cap you were predetermined.
So our MC gets "OP" skill that makes hes drop rate rank S across the board while he can never level up as hes level cap is 1/1 and hes combat stats are F rank across the board.
Due to hes stats he has to work hard in order to get food and a roof over hes head because all he can kill is the weakest monsters which pose him some a threat.
Later we find out that our MC can get drops from monsters and places that others cant due to hes unique skill as having S rank skills is unheard already while A ranks are relatively rare and some people are unlucky being permanently stuck at F rank across the board even at high levels..
So MC has to slowly work to increase hes stats in a unique way only available for him that is revealed later on
So the harem part...
I wouldnt call it super generic because characters dont just randomly fall for MC, he helps them in certain ways he can and earns their trust and admiration one way or another and it takes time or something big like with the first friend he makes.
Its still a common trope but at least its not over the top love on the first sight with them fully trusting him with their lives the second they interact with MC
There are slight hints for some of them wanting to be more than just comrades but its not explored much more in the show and they all act more like group of friends with no generic rivalry between the cast for hes attention
They are relatively open for letting new faces into their circle as long as MC approves of them
I still give it 8/10 because its slightly above the average, being overall somewhat consistent and there is nothing dragging it down compared to some of the shows in this genre we seen over the years and wouldnt mind a second season with hopes of overall improvement over this even if its slight one.
Highly recommend if you want a simple show to relax to
