Shinsekai Yori has all the same elements of Pupa, but, unlike Pupa, it's actually good. It's got mystery, drama, and even some blood. It's literally a better version of Pupa, so if you liked Pupa then you're gonna give Shinsekai Yori a 15/10.

Hyouka

This may seem like a strange recommendation, but hear me out on this one. Hyouka tells the story of a Houtarou, a high school boy who solves everyday mysteries along with his friends. Digimon Adventure on the other hand has less of a mysteries element, but the connection the characters have as friends has a quite similar dynamic. In the beginning of Hyouka, Houtarou just doesn't want to deal with any other people, but slowly becomes friends the people in his club. In Digimon, we see Tai acting as the main character and he only looks out for himself at first. He too grows closer to the people that came along on his adventure.

Both of these anime require an effort from the viewer to understand their deeper meanings. If you enjoy analyzing things beyond what appears on their surface, you will enjoy both of these. Both appear shallow on the surface, but you must watch carefully and pay attention to small details to get what the creators really want you to see.
