A TL;DR whether or not this is worth a watch for you is this:
If you expect a good storyline with character growth and actual depth to it... you probably wont enjoy this season much.
If you, however, dont mind there being next to no storyline and just wanna see some cool Digimon on screen with a few horror elements mixed into it, then you will probably enjoy this season.
This season started out at being fun and promising but ultimately, didnt lead anywhere. It brought up some good, clever ideas in certain episodes, which mostly fell flat due to the presentation of said ideas that the series
...
took. It was cool to see some Digimon that were never to be seen before in an anime adaptation and the partner Digimon were all pretty unique and cool too in terms of design.
However... more often than not did I almost fall asleep during the fillery packed episodes that just felt contrived most of the time.
Its all a real shame too, since the show started off to give the impression that its gonna take a more dark and mature approach, but ultimately, it just ended up being rushed and confusing. One shouldnt expect too much when going into this season.

After having watched the trilogy and taking some time for some of the things to fully settle in, I feel like I am now ready to write down a few of my thoughts.
I am surprised to see that those movies have been so well recieved and so well rated, especially the third one. As for me, I think trying to cram content worth of 20+ hours of reading into 6 hours of movie material is already not a great idea to start with.
Naturally, that only means that certain is gonna get cut, and boy it did. But first things first.
First to say is, the Animation
...
and Sounddesign was absolutely top notch and mindblowing. The fight inbetween Alternate Saber and Rider is something that every fan of the genre should witness and be able to enjoy. I honestly think most of the budget of this project went into the animation and the score, as this is also one of the points that hit its mark.
But aside from that, I honestly have to say I barely found any enjoyment in this movie. It got so unbearable for me, that I eventually asked myself "is it finally soon over?" within the last 15 minutes of runtime.
It did an absolutely horrendous job at going over the plot, missing many many details that would've explained important aspects to the viewer in order to tie together those loose ends that this movie loved to just leave there.
The ending is especially at fault here. I had to look up some explanations online after finishing the movie in order to even get an idea of what happened here.
But other parts of the movie also felt uncertain and contrived, in a way that I was left more confused than actually entertained.
Why does character xy do that, why does character xy think that? I dont know, and the movie surely also doesnt know.
The characters surely didnt help, either. Sakura is the definition of a wet cardboard box that solely relies mostly on her trauma to be even an idea of a character - if you happened to strip away all her trauma, honestly, what else is left of her? The relationship with Rin was adorable and the way she tried to get out of her way to bond with her was heartwarming, yet I cant help but feel like it still took the short end of the stick, ultimately resulting in me not feeling anything when the final scene inbetween the two sisters happened in the climax of the movie.
Shirou shouldnt have been a major character and plotpoint to begin with, I already quiet disliked his relationship with Sakura in movie 2, was I felt it was more of an obsession in general than geniune, healthy love, and I despise relationships like that.
Make it focus more on the relationship between Illya and Shirou / Rin and Sakura instead of shoving Shirou into places where he feels forced into.
Illya and Kirei were some of the more interesting aspects of the movie, but since the adaptation decided to rob us of most of their important characterisation scenes from the Novel, those two also feel more like awkwardly designed sidecharacters without consistent motivations rather than important characters with real agency and importance.
Kirei VS Shirou at the end also felt more like a wet towel slap than something that leaves a permanent impact on your mind, sadly.
All in all we are left with a contrived mess of chaotic events that arent even well tied together but instead left ambiguous to the point where people that only watched the movies without having read the VN prior or having heard anything about it can only try and guess what those empty holes are in order to fill them out in their mind themselves, and honestly, I think if a movie does that to you, it didnt do a good job at trying to explain its content to the viewer. Its like trying to piece a puzzle together, but the jigsaws dont really fit together, resulting in a very abstract and chaotic image at the end without any kind of sense whatsoever.
All in all I can say, I cant really recommend any of the three movies - I would rather recommend to just read the VN and watch all the important fighting scenes on YT, as the animation was the only truly enjoyable part of this.

What can I say. I will try to keep this review spoiler-free, in case those reading wanna know whether or not to give this a shot.
All in all, its a mess. If you already watched the original Adventure and other Digimon seasons and wonder if you should also dip into this one: My only answer to this is - only if you like non-stop, brainless Taichi & Agumon Screentime and action and nothing else.
Other characters are barely given any screentime, and if it does, it is executed in a way that makes you seriously question why these characters are even in this show at all.
Characters
...
like Mimi, Joe or Sora get extremely sidelined in favor of more Agumon & Taichi, ultimately portraying the other members as pathetic cannon fodder if anything else. The animation is only subpar, even fights are often not animated with enough care. Sounddesign is ok, the evolution songs are really good, so if you are into Digimon OST, you should definitely listen to it seperately, if interested.
A plot is not really given, most episodes, especially in the latter half of the show, are just brainless filler that can be easily skipped without you noticing that you might have missed anything.
In conclusion, if you are looking for something on par with the other Digimon seasons or at least something with some kind of sense and direction, this anime isnt for you. I'd rather recommend you to turn to the older seasons of Digimon, if you want to get some Digimon experience again.
