Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Cop Out Harder
This movie. Oh why this movie.
Coming from someone who has seen the series in it's entirety multiple times, I can in fact confirm my verdict on this film without seeing it's successor.
This film is bad. Really bad. "Cop Out" isn't even coming close to describing it. We take all the established material from the previous films and just throw it away, like a used dish sponge.
We change characters without explanation, break canon with no explanation, do stupid things for no reason, and don't even take a second to tell you what you need to know. Now, this may
...
be okay in some fiction, but it never makes sense in this movie, as all the people who could explain and would are here, but won't. getting from one scene to another isn't even straight forward.
The teaser at the end of 2.0 may be implied to happen in between movies, but that is such an awful excuse for making this movie so nonsensical.
The story is no longer stand alone in the sense that it can be narratively coherent by itself. This movie is fully reliant on what it's successor will do.
What is 3.0? insanity and set pieces. and even the set pieces fall flat.
If I could compare this film to something, I'd say it represents everything wrong with some of today's anime. Recreating the same things over and over, overusing CG, relying soley on action, breaking continuity with no explanation, and breaking characters with no explanation.
This movie ends without answering anyone's questions, and only creates more. Your only solace here are the visuals and the Soundtrack, both of which are great. Even then, they don't make this movie worth watching.
2.0 was one step forward for Evangelion, and 3.0 was a trip and fall into the abyss.

Fishmaster Reviews #2: Another - More chances to say Another
Another is the story of one Koichi Sakakibara of class 3, who is a transfer student. Upon arrival, he finds that he is the only one to see a student Mei Misaki, A mysterious girl with an eyepatch. As he begins to uncover more about Mei, people around him begin to mysteriously die.
OR DID THEY??
*insert "dun"s here*
Nah, I'm pretty sure they are dead.
Another was a bit of a suprise for me. The first three-ish episodes initially left me wondering if anything interesting was going to happen. But as soon as I reached the fourth episode, I
...
was invested.
Much like other anime, Another suffers from Initial Episode Syndrome, or IES. This phenomenon can be seen in many an anime that have a lacking or uninteresting initial hook, that may or may not be indicative of the quality of the rest of the series.
Some major examples include Stein;s Gate (some episodes after the first), and the second season of Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Endless 8, which is actually very ineresting to watch after Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, but nonetheless would bore some watchers who might not be aware).
Another's storyline is one full of misdirection, trying to confuse you at each turn. Just when you figured out the mystery, the characters debunk it, and you are back to square one. Another can be watched again for an added value, since you would pick up on more of the clues.
The art and sound in Another are good, with music that fits in with the scene. The art is pretty, and fits in with the atmosphere. The opening theme by Ali Project however does not fit that well here, which is disappointing, but is balanced out by the ending theme.
The characters are the weakest link in Another, with our main character being pretty bland, and only there to observe most of the time. The real hero is Rei Aya- sorry, I mean Mei Misaki. Mei is the one who knows the most about the situation most of the time, and tends to help explain what is going on.
The supporting cast is a mixed bag of people who are more expendable than Stormtroopers. Even the ones closest to our heroes get relatively low amounts of development.
One final gripe: Another. Man, a better name would be nice, like "The Adventures of Rei Ayanami's Clone", or "Middle School Death Party". Yeah. I should sell that last one. But it is better that some names I know.
*cough* WII U*cough*
Overall, Another is fairly good. Good enough that it is definitely better than the first season of Higurashi (IMO). But not good enough to top Higurashi's second and third seasons (Featuring Rika as the chair master).
As a warning: THERE WILL BE BLOOD. And lots of it. Many gruesome deaths happen over the course of the series, so if you are of a faint heart or get sick from gore
Verdict: 7 / 10 - Watch it
Other Recomendations: Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, for more scary, blood-drenched violence and mystery
Mirai Nikki, for more blood and mystery

Neon Genesis Evangelion. Easily the most polarized series in anime. You either Love it, Hate it, or swing from liking it as a teen to hating it as an adult. And I most definitely can say I fall under the last item mentioned.
But that is the main series. This, on the other hand, is Death and Rebirth, the recap of the entire series, and the first 30 minutes of End of Evangelion. And how well does it handle recaping?
It doesn't. Flat out, The entire recap segment is a mess of scenes cut from the show (it's as if Gainax still ran out of money after NGE
...
and made it as cheap as it could). The scenes aren't really presented in any good order either. It was an attempt to pin together the important events that effected each of the EVA pilots, but in such a way that anyone who wanted to go from this movie to End of Evangelion wouldn't understand the most important base elements from the show. For example,
1. What's an Angel?
2.Why did the South Pole explode?
3. Why is Shinji such a grouse?
4. Why is Asuka's mom talking to her inside of the EVA if she's dead?
5. Why make kids pilot mechs to save the world?
6. What in Sagan's name is the Human Instrumentality Project?
... And it goes on and on. Now, I have seen the show, so I do know what is happening when we reach the second half, but the editing in the first half throws all the important bits out and leaves you with a mess of hatred and confusion that leads into the mess to come.
The only redeeming part of this comes from Shiro Sagisu's once again great score. But at this point, you might just as well watch the show. It'll make a hell of a lot more sense and will anger you less.
