If you're a fan of early Toei anime, I'd definitely recommend Ryu to fans of the '72 Devilman and vice versa! Both are animated in the same way and both have the similar a bit repetitive plot at times. Also Ichiro Mizuki sings the banger openings of the both series!

Both series are equally dramatic, epic and touching stories of heroism, bravery and friendship! Even though one is about fighting dogs and the other about fighting "pretty boys", you can find a lot of similarities between them. The main character of both is a young warrior who has had to experience a lot even as a child to become a good fighter and our heroes always manage to get their former opponents on their side to fight the real enemy. This actually isn't surprising, because both appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump in the 80s and later Toei Animation adapted both into anime. They were successful in different parts of the world (GNG is much more obscure in the other places except in Finland and Scandinavia, though), but you could say that both series are a significant part of Shonen history. So, if you want the same kind of action and don't care if the characters are humans or animals, these series are for you!

If you want to see as deep story with similarly good animation, these both series are for you! Both are family friendly classics which can touch your heart even though another one is a fairy tale and another one base on the true events. You can't be too old to enjoy these both!

If you're looking for an adventure movie about dogs in beautiful settings, both of these movies are for you! Call of The Wild is a bit more realistic and violent than The Tibetan Dog, but both have a strong and loyal dog as a protagonist.

Both movies has a boy and his dog (or in the case of White Fang, a wolf) as main hero and are very similar, except White Fang has no supernatural elements. You will definitely like both of them.

Even though The Tibetan Dog is significantly lighter and more family-friendly than GNG, they share similar elements: the friendship between a boy and his dog, the dog pack and the monster who kills people. However, this is more human-centric, which some may find boring, while in GNG, dogs get a bigger role in its second half. I still recommend both if you like the stories about dogs.

Hokuto no Ken

Both are bloody action series with many touching moments. Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin is often considered the "Dog version of Hokuto no Ken" and that's not entirely far from the truth. Both series are about heroes who protect people from the evil that threatens them.

Kinnikuman

Despite Kinnikuman having a significantly less serious tone than GNG (GNG have some humor too, but not that much), I still recommend both to fans of both series. Especially if you're a fan of 80s Toei series and like some over-the-top action and MANLY moments with the atypical heroes (samurai-like dogs and the weird superheroes)!

Both series started and ended in the same year and have the same number of episodes. They have a very similar atmosphere and animation in some places. Even though they are made for children, there are still sometimes quite dark and deep things in them that very young children may not understand. They are also not afraid to show a little violence. Also, both of these are, at least in the undersigned's opinion, even better than the original 60s adaptations.

Both series are from the same era (Genshi Shonen Ryu from 1971 and Gamba no Bouken from 1975) and have a quite similar plot: A young hero fight against a big threatening enemy. They are very dark and bloody at times.

Both animes tell of animals generally considered adorable, fighting for life and death with a true samurai spirit, against a threatening big enemy! They're also not suitable for young children (although Gamba isn't as violent as GNG, but rather bloody and dark nonetheless). I recommend both if you are a fan of dark animal animations and animes! You will not be disappointed.

Saint Seiya Omega

Both Saint Seiya Omega and GDW are a sequel to the classic 80s Shonen anime series: Omega to Saint Seiya and GDW to GNG (okay, Omega is more of a spin-off, but still) and they follow the adventures of a new generation, but we also see old characters supporting them. The series has a lot of excitement, action and touching moments almost as much as the original series. Both have a pretty questionable reputation among fans, but if you’re a big Ginga or STS fan, which isn't affected by potential problems in the series, I highly recommend these!

Although there is 15 years of age difference between these two series, they have surprisingly many things in common: there is a violent battle with a one-eyed monster, a revence, at least one significant character death, opponent who sabotages the protagonist's journey, canines, etc. Also, both are Toei Animation's series.

GNG and Saint Seiya are surprisingly similar series, even though it wouldn't look like it at the first sight. For example: - Both were made by Toei Animation and are from 1986, so you can notice similar animation style, sound effects and voice actors. - Protagonist of both is just a young boy which become a true warrior. - They have so much epic, bloody, touching and dramatic action. There's some little funny moments, but otherwise they're pretty serious. - One of the important characters goes blind at some point in the series. - In both series, the characters believe in justice, courage and friendship as virtues. - They are similarly popular in the Scandinavia and South America. - Both have brilliant soundtrack! So if you want to see similar action like in GNG, I really recommend to watch Saint Seiya, even though it's much longer series!
