The condescending world that is filled with cynical people. Why must everything have to be compared and be either good or bad? Can't we perhaps just take their action (or anything really) at face value and just say that we simply do it because we believe/find enjoyment in it. Learning to appreciate the lost and the gained, that is perhaps the essence of the two stories. While reading the two manhwa, I really came to understand what it means to lose a truly irreplaceable person, that they would feel that the world might as well be pitch black without that particular person beside them. The slightest presence of that person would vanquish all darkness with a soothing light. Facing the world together while carrying their disabilities that slowly becomes weightless, and meeting people and befriending them. People that are too kind for their own good, too stupid for their own good, too self-centered for their own good, all coming together to support each other and giving the necessary push to take a step forward. Turning a weakness into a strength, or at least as something indifferent. "It is not about taking care of somebody, but it is simply living together," thus dissolving the complexity of the world and be able to truly bond with others. At the end though, sometimes taking a step backwards is a good thing for the journey, a journey of what it means to be just as "normal" as everyone else. The journey matters, but the destination matters even more. Two stories that can make you smile/laugh on the spot, be angry or maybe even cry in a matter of seconds. Two truly mesmerizing, dramatic stories simply about interacting with others. Highly recommended to people who loves drama, slice of life or is simply looking for a good manhwa.

Extreme circumstances invokes the true human nature in our hearts. Let that be kindness, bitterness or perhaps any other emotions and the consequences that follows. In just the first few minutes of the films, they managed to show an already clear difference between them. Giovanni no Shima beginning on a clear, bright sky while Hotaru no Haka begins in darkly lit places filled with despair. Though both films does show how there is a brighter side to everything, Giovanni no Shima has a different sweetness that Hotaru no Haka lacks. The sweetness or perhaps bitterness to be able to face ethnic differences. Both films being about war times where siblings walk together for a chance towards a better tomorrow. If not anything more, the two managed to be a heartbreaking tale on the regards of war.

The time we spent together was very short, but it sparkled more than anything. How does it feel to love someone while knowing your partner has a time limit? How about the person that is sick? One thing is for sure, the person that is sick would never want to die. Though there is one thing that is actually above it, even more important than that persons life, a request simply wishing for the other person to be happy, to continue to put up such a great smile that they shared. I guess that I really did cry, especially in Datte. Both manga does a really good job to show their appreciation for the little time they had left together. They were both bittersweet, and showed how nostalgic love can be.

To be tied down together by fate, brought together by a miracle, it will take much more than a miracle to break them apart. Revolved around characters with a haunting past, just how are people with such a gruesome past able to fall in love? To want to love yet they feel they are not allowed to, the drama in both manga really involves on around their past and how it is affecting their present lives. To want to forget, to be scared and wanting to run away from the past. To regret what has happened. The darker themes in these manga really brings the two together.

Is there such thing as genuine lie? A lie completely harmless to those around the person that said it? In these two oneshots, I've learned that there could be a gentle and kind side to lying. They both are around the theme of telling lies and white lies, though In Nekomori, the boy is the one that can see lies, while in Sabaki no Mon, it is about a "boy" that lies. The theme really makes both of them touching and sweet.

Just what is forbidden love? Is it a type of love that is society unacceptable? Just how would one describe such love? Well it really depends on the couple but surely it is never a smooth road. It may be described as a painful road, but does that necessarily mean unhappiness? If they can get their families and friends to accept them as it is the only way for true happiness, who cares about what strangers think. The heroines share a similar background where they lost their mother, and is in somewhat of a conflict with their father, as they never got the chance to understand each other. Someone, a boy appears that changes the heroines life in a way that brings the heroine something they can never forget. Maybe a child really grow after their parents, and falling for the same type of person. Both manga are quite different but they share similar themes around their love and family. Ojousama no Untenshu would be more like a typical shoujo, while Shinobi Life is quite different from most shoujo manga, as it has many action, but they both can be related upon and be enjoyable.

Mokke

The past, tradition, and the future is important, but it really depends on the person. The anime share a point of view between sisters and their relationship. Having to protect each other, while Mokke is rather episodic and the and most of the slice of life theme is presented by the supernatural beings each representing something. While Figure 17 is more about school, of course with some alien action. The anime involve going beyond themselves, breaking their fears and maturing from it. Both anime shows both the beauty of happiness and the cruel sadness of the world.

In the greater sense, these anime are quite similar. Offering a mysterious beginning giving an unknowing and tempting view towards the viewers on what the anime has to offer. The characters will gather and head for a grand adventure, while experiencing strong friendship, or something even beyond that. An adventure with some sort of power, yet not only being tested physically but mentally too as they deal with powerful emotions. To anyone that likes a dark, complex anime that slowly gives off its secrets, I can almost ensure you will find the anime likable.
