Serial Experiments Lain and Perfect Blue are very different on many levels (mostly pacing, ost and themes). However, it also shares some important similarities that might make the fan of one love the other as well. -The main characters, while very different at first glance, really reminded me of each other the more I watched SEL. It is difficult to explain why without spoiling though. -One of the main themes of Perfect Blue is the identity, something also very important to SEL. Both shows will make you question what exactly makes us who we are and both will show the mc undergoing an identity crisis in a very interesting, impactful way. -Both shows play with the viewer's mind. The line between reality and illusion is blurred and until the very end, it is considerably difficult to fully proceed what is going on. However, the way it is handled makes for an immersive experience instead of a simple confusing mess. -Both shows have a very immersive feel, and the atmosphere is particularly well done. SEL is gloomy and disturbing since the beginning while Perfect Blue begins as fairly normal before gradually falling into madness, but both will give you a similar feeling of anxiety but also need to know more about what is going on. Overall those shows, as I said above, are very different. However I am pretty sure that if you liked one, you really might like the other.

Both shows feature an amnesiac main character discovering a world that has been severely damaged. Along the way, he'll meet different inhabitants of this world affected in some way by the tragedy that occured. Both shows are episodic, at least in the first episodes, with each episode focusing on the mc's encounter with new characters. Each little story will give a new insight to the world but also how everyone tries to cope with the situation. In both shows, the characters are very eccentric but also feel very real and human, it is very easy to create an emotional connection with them which leads for each episode to end on a very emotional note. Both shows also focus a lot on the philosophical and psychological aspect and spends a lot of time exploring the human mind. They are also both very atmospheric and rely a lot on the music. There are a few other similarities but I can't explain them without spoiling but if you loved one of those two shows, you'll certainly love the other as well !

While those two shows are overall pretty different (Yuru Camp is very laid-back, relaxed and light-hearted while Eizouken is very energetic, over-the-top and at the same time adressing the characters' struggles in a funny yet also quite serious manner), they still have some similarities I noticed since the first episode. -Both shows are about high school girls who have been reunited through their passion for a particular activity (camping for Yuru Camp and animation for Eizouken) -In both shows, we follow the characters as they work for their club -Both heroines (Nadeshiko Kagamihara and Asakusa Midori) are very energetic and pratically living for their passion, but tend to be quite airheads because of their wild spirit -Both shows feature very lively and passionate characters -Both shows are very funny, but also and mostly have an educational goal as we learn a lot about the activities practiced by the characters
