Goblin Slayer is the one of the better series this season and probably the most popular anime this season. The show has an interesting concept, dark themes and it has decent comedy elements. It also has a interesting main character that hates goblins. Unfortunately, the show has a very controversial first episode that made a lot of viewers hate the show because of one scene.
1. The controversy

debates among the anime community. Many people were disgusted towards Goblin Slayer due to what it showed in the first episode. Some people got so triggered that they deemed the anime as trash and said that this anime promotes rape. Yes this anime has rape in it, so what?
The rape scene in Goblin Slayer is just an element in a dark-fantasy anime. The rape scene may not be necessary, but it does have purpose of describing a realistic fantasy world where dangers and stakes are real. A lot of other anime have rape scenes like SAO and Berserk, but why can't Goblin Slayer have a rape scene? The controversy of Goblin Slayer is just bullshit.
2. Story 8/10
The series is set in a generic fantasy world. The show is a deconstruction of the typical fantasy tropes by taking a new spin on the known character and world archetypesl. The story (and the OP) does allude to the fact that the world and the characters may be just a part of a game played by gods. Relationships between each of the characters are given enough time to develop and feel natural. This series has also some pretty good comedy elements.
3. Art and animation 7/10
The art is good and the fight scenes are also animated really good, but the series has a lot of stil frames and Goblin Slayer is a lot of the time in CG. The art and animation is overall good enough.
4. Sound 8/10
I liked the OP and ED a lot and the voice acting was decent, but I didn't like the voice acter of Goblin Slayer.
5. Characters 8/10
The first few episodes had not a lot of character development and we didn't know a lot about Goblin Slayer and the Priestess. However, by episode nine we got more background on Goblin Slayer. In general, both he and the Priestess are excellent characters. The other party members are also great, especially the elf, I loved her interactions with the Dwarf and Goblin Slayer a lot. Regardless of the pace of development, the characters are driving this anime more than anything else. They are all an interesting and entertaining bunch. It is hard not to like them.
Overall: 8/10
The show is great and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to all but the youngest anime fans. Even if You decide it’s not for You, do so after watching three or four episodes instead of just the first one.
