Shoujo Kakumei Utena

It's not very uncommon to hear that "Revolutionary Girl Utena" is the NGE of shoujo. Both rely on symbolism to tell a very complex story about human emotion and the complexity of human life.

Ashita no Nadja

While Princess Tutu has more fantasy, both seem like a light hearted shoujo but as soon as you watch both you noticed very heavy themes about the human heart. Both are character driven with a really good emotional story.

The daily lives and thoughts of the two high school girls are told through letters they write to a special someone. Oniisama e... is much darker than Daddy Long Legs, but as the main character of DLL reaches the end of high school, the tone of the series gets more dramatic.

Both are period dramas with romance as the main theme. Although Georgie starts off very mild, once it skips the main character's childhood it gets a lot more mature and dramatic. You can actually skip the first 20 episodes 'cause they're fillers.

Hapi Mari: Happy Marriage!?
|
Clumsy, not very smart or especially beautiful women try to make absolutely gorgeous, serious and successful men notice them (though the circunstances are different). Both have over the top comedy and drama. Not just a story about "getting together", you get to see their life afterwards. Hapi Mari really resembles Itazura na Kiss, not only on character dynamic, but you also get the same feeling while reading both of them. Even though they are directed to a different age target, Hapi Mari is the shoujo-ish josei I've ever seen.
