The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague
What comes to mind when someone mentions vanilla romance anime? Is it Horimiya? Is it Toradora? Well, I can now faithfully present to everyone The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague. This anime is so vanilla it could be watched by an 8 year old. There is no foul language, no fanservice, and no devious characters. But does all of this translate into a good show? It really depends on the execution.
We meet Himuro who is the son of an ice spirit as he begins working at some random cubicle company. But while walking to his
...
first day of work, he gets so nervous that he accidentally freezes himself. This leads to a chance encounter with Fuyutski who talks to him and eventually calms him down and he is able to thaw. They go their separate ways but soon, they find they work for the same company.
The show details their progression as they slowly discover how they both have a huge crush on each other. We also focus on some of the side characters as they also form their own side relationships. Every trope is present in this show. The fireworks festival episode, the beach episode, it’s all there. Even though they are overused, they still provide at least some sort of entertainment. While it sounds like the setpieces for an interesting show on paper, this anime fails to do well on any of these points.
The sole reason for this is that the characters are just massive NPCs. Mainly Fuyutski, she talks like a robot and the only positive trait I can say about her is that she is cute. But visual appeal can not save a character when they have the personality of a wet sock. In truth, I find the side characters to be far more entertaining than the MCs. The reason for this is likely that they are far more outgoing and loud. This opinion is purely based on subjectivity but regardless, they are far more captivating.
Himuro is the “ice guy” mentioned in the title. He is by far my least favorite character in the entire series. His interactions with Fuyutski mirror that of a middle school boy trying to talk to his crush. He is mentally 11, I don’t see any good traits about him. He just fucking sucks, there is no other way he can be described.
One of the worst parts about this show is that it takes barely any time to focus on the other characters. There was one episode that focused on the side characters and that was it. Any other time the side characters were featured were when they were tagging along with Fuyutski and Himuro’s elementary school field trip activities. In fact, they are often used as plot devices to get Himuro and Fuyutski closer to a confession which will happen when Rent-A-Girlfriend ends. A lot of the time, the fox furry girl just comments on how much she ships Himuro(Whom I will now call ice guy) and Fuyutski(whom I will now call wet sock because I don’t feel like spelling out Fuyutski) and the other random dude is kinda just there. It’s obvious that he likes the fox furry girl and even though he also has a chalkboard for a brain, him and the fox furry girl still are better to watch than the MCs.
Many romance animes such as Love is War and Your Lie in April are so popular because they focus on not just the romance but every character’s interactions as a whole. For example, in Love is War, we see Ishigami slowly build up his confidence as he learns to befriend those around him. This type of formula in romance animes work because every characters gets a chance to shine. If you don’t like one character, that’s great because now you can watch an episode where a different individual is the star of the show.
And in Your Lie in April, we see Arima build his confidence back up playing the piano with Kaori there to support him. The main characters deserve time to build themselves up without solely relying on their relationship with the other MC to make themselves a compelling character. In Ice Dude, the only character development seen is the snail’s pace that Himuro is taking to eventually confess to Fuyutski.
Sadly, in The Ice Guy and His Boring Female NPC, ice guy and wet sock are the only two characters attention is focused on. The show attempts to insert comedic moments but none of them hit and it feels like even the characters don’t find it funny. Sometimes, there is a show that is so shitty that it will keep you watching. The phrase “So bad it’s good” can be aligned with many works of fiction such as Euphoria or The Emoji Movie.
Well, toss all of that out the window because that phrase can only be implied to shows that actually have moments that keep you watching. The Ice Brain and His AI-generated female servant is so appallingly boring that it has taken all of my willpower to even continue watching the show.
All in all, this show is about as entertaining as watching two chipmunks fight over a piece of hamburger meat from a Double Quarter Pounder. I was in a stupor most of the time watching this show and it adds nothing to the already oversaturated genre of rom-com anime. Do yourself a favor and never ever watch this show.

Hey, I’ve seen this before! Another action shonen show with a subpar plot, shallow characters, banger theme songs and soundtrack, with of course, served up with some of the highest quality and most refined animation you have ever seen. Chainsaw Man was the most packed anime of the season but did it live up to the hype? That answer is purely subjective but in my opinion, no. I don’t see it as anything special. It’s another working class grass-fed show served up by the MAPPA machine. It is clear a lot of thought and hard work was put into it and I can see why
...
some people could enjoy it.
Plot: 7/10 - It was definitely an entertaining story. We see 16 year old Denji being enslaved by Makima to work with Devil Safety or else he dies lmao. He then goes off and fights devils with the other characters, Power, Aki, Himeno, I’ll get into them later but the first arc where Denji and Power go off to get Meowy back was the weakest point. It was extremely dull and seeing Denji not be able to go chainsaw mode and whip some ass on the other devil felt infuriating. It was all just a bore until Aki saves the day with “Kon!” The next part, we see the Mystery Gang enter some hotel and then get trapped in the infinite staircase, wow, so original. It wasn’t as boring to watch as the Meowy arc but I have seen this way too many times in other shows. However, one thing I love about this part is we see the true nature of Himeno, Kobeni, and the other NPC dude that was tagging along with them. But it just makes your blood boil while they scream and cry for Mommy and Kobeni is like “Damn, I should have been a prostitute!” But then Denji the protagonist saves the day!. It’s Chainsawin Time! He then fights the damn thing for 3 days and finally kills the devil trapping them in the hotel. Next we have a party arc. Everyone arrives at a bar and a drinking concert happens like “Okay, we’re doing this now!” Then, Himeno gets drunk and kisses Denji and I’m just saying she’s like 24 and he’s 16. They say alcohol reveals a true person’s colors, well, I’m just asking…what the fuck was that? Then after the party, she tries to fucking have sex with him like ok Himeno, enough is enough damnit. Next, we have the arc where these random bozos try to assassinate the entire gang. Like the episode before, the cliffhanger was “Will Denji get laid?” now it’s “Is anyone still alive?” That was just comical. But we see the true powers of Denji, Kobeni, and Makima awaken and I don’t even know what to think of Makima anymore.
Characters: 4/10 - Ok, so these dudes who are saying “Hahaha Denji is the most relatable MC” need to lowkey stop. Actually, he is realistic. He is 16 and desperate for some pussy. That’s every high schooler ever. He is actually pretty funny due to him being kind of messed up in the head. He never gets scared and always jumps into the fray to fight which is admirable. But he does not really possess any unique qualities for being an MC other than being a pervert which we actually saw with that bastard Meliodas. Now, we have Power, she’s a bitch. When I saw her in the trailer, she looked so cool and I thought she was a villain. But nah, she’s a whiny asshole who is intellectually 5, she’s a pain to watch and her voice is gangbanging my ears. Makima is straight up mysterious. We haven’t really seen much of her but what we have seen of her is her sounding like a robot. She was made in poor taste and it was clearly to appeal to the down bad audience and also, she has those yandere eyes if ya know what I mean. Next, we have Aki. He is probably the most sane out of the four. One thing I do enjoy about Aki is his relationship with Denji. At first, they didn’t like each other because they were fighting over Makima. “Dude, fuck off, Makima wants me.” “Nah fam, Makima’s down bad for me.” Anyway, they eventually grow more tolerable to each other as Aki did not want to sacrifice Denji to the hotel devil. He is probably the most likable of the 4 which is a low bar since the others are a pervert, an asshole, and a bot.
Animation: 10/10 - What can I say? It’s MAPPA, the animation is some of the best we have seen ever. Not sure what else to say other than I need to send some appreciation to the dudes who choreographed the fights, they were spectacular. The opening and ending visuals are all amazing, I fucking love them.
Music: 8/10 - The soundtrack is gritty, catchy, and dramatic. I love it all. Personally, I think “Kick Back” is an alright song. The ending to the full song is pretty weak. Most of the ending songs are pretty average, I like the 1st and 7th but the rest aside from the second which is dogshit are pretty forgettable.
Overall: 6/10 - It was an enjoyable show, now that I have gotten my thoughts on paper, I have learned to enjoy this show a little more. It was a fun ride with these annoying characters of the Chainsaw Man universe and I am excited to see how they develop when more of the anime comes out but I’m probably going to read the manga soon.

A truly disappointing end to the legendary tale of Ash Ketchum who became the very best.
Story - 5/10: In all honesty, the story surrounding the climax of Pokemon Journeys is quite honestly shit on fire. What opens is Ash not even really having a goal to achieve. This worked well in Pokemon Sun & Moon where the format of the show was altered for the first time. But now, it clearly did not work. Ash becomes a research fellow working for Professor Cerise alongside his friend Goh who we will talk about later. But now, we hear about the World Coronation Series. A worldwide
...
tournament where trainers battle other trainers to raise their ranking to become better. There is the Normal Class, the Great Class, The Ultra Class, and the Masters Eight. Ash, after witnessing the #1 ranked trainer named Leon defeat Lance, the champion of Kanto and Johto, decides to want to battle him. He vows to raise his ranking to become part of the Masters Eight to have a proper full-fledged battle with him. Now this is a good start to the plot but we only see about half of Ash's battles to rise up. A lot of his grinding happens in offscreen land which leaves a very discombobulated plot. Now as for Goh's goal, he wants to catch Mew. Goh's goal progress i actually did enjoy. He wants to catch as many Pokemon as possible to be prepared to catch mew and i respect him for this. He had a good goal but I really did not enjoy the dual protagonist shit they had going on here. Goh is quite fucking boring and I think he is gay for Ash but I am getting carried away. Story was pretty average throughout, could be a possible contender for worst Pokemon series ever lmao.
Characters - 4/10: Let's start with our main man, Ash Ketchum. He truly...has no personality other than battling. Ash from Kanto-Hoenn was a smart ass punk that made for some of the most meme worthy events in Pokemon. DP and XY Ash were the most mature we have seen him and it got us some very nice character development. SM Ash was simply just a funny dude and it reminds me of Yokai Watch. While Journeys Ash is not as stupid as BW Ash, that is only inside of battles. I swear, all of Ash's braincells just exit his body throughout his ears after battles. The final win he got in the end felt totally undeserved, he simply felt a bit more soulless compared to better days he has seen. As for Goh, holy fucking shit, what a piece of work he is. He is arrogant, a crybaby, and a dick. But he does have some good qualities. He truly does care for Ash, he supports him in all his battles except for one which I will get to later and they rarely get into fights which I deem pointless in Pokemon most of the time. As for Chloe, I don't even know if I should put her here since is she a companion? But she is also a stick in my ass. She acts very bitchy for half of the series until she finally meets Eevee. But when she does meet Eevee, she does not know what to do as a Pokemon trainer. So she goes around meeting trainers with every Eeveelution including best girl Serena(Fight me) who came back after 6 years, I cried at that reunion. But after all that, she decides...to do nothing at all! Wow, what a great conclusion! Just kidding, fuck her.
Animation - 6/10: Can't commentate for much on animation. But I feel as if it on a slow decrease in quality ever since XY. Both XY and SM had amazing graphics and cinematography and except for the final battle, the quality fucking sucked!
Ending - 7/10: First, let's start with Goh's ending. A 1/10 in my opinion. He works so hard to find Mew, he joins a whole project dedicated to capturing it, but what do we get? Goh just touches Mew's butt, says "I'll get you next time!" then leaves! What in the hot crispy Kentucky fried fuck was that? A major L that just solidified Goh as a Grade "A" pure bred loser. Now for Ash Ketchum...
The final battle between Ash and Leon truly was something to behold. An absolute powerhouse of emotions and awesome battle scenes were coursing through this final Pokemon battle's veins. What I love about this fight was they let Leon take out all of Ash's Pokemon until they had just Pikachu left. That was when they reminded us. Hey, it was always Ash and Pikachu from the very beginning. A man and his best friend, against the world, what could be better than that? The final matchup between Ash and Charizard had such amazing animation quality that it made the overall rating of the category go from a 2 to a 6! The best thing was, when Pikachu fainted during his battle with Charizard and we all thought it was over, we see all of the Pokemon Ash and Pikachu have traveled with from Kanto to Galar. All cheering him on and telling him to keep on fighting! And so he gets back up, stands on his 4 feet, tells Charizard "I don't think so" and blasts a full cylinder kinetic energy electric boogaloo turbo energized thunderbolt at Charizard and destroys him. The most satisfying ending ever seen in Pokemon, I could not be happier.
As for the final episode, I didn't want to say it but I was watching this final episode with the bois and when Goh and Ash finally said goodbye and gave each other one last fist bump, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Goodbye Goh, you probably won't be missed.
Overall - 4/10: Probably one of my least favorite Pokemon series. Mid plot, terrible side characters, but the ending lowkey hard carried the series. That's some Code Geass level shit but anyway, I'm glad there are some final episodes to properly send off Ash. I hope they do him justice because he is truly an amazing character, I can't wait!

This shit is so ass!
After watching Plastic Memories and absolutely loving it, I decided to travel the world in searching of other anime that can cause me emotional trauma. I find Your Lie in April, it seems very promising, music is truly chef's kiss. But that's all the good I can find in this show.
The story actually starts off pretty good. We meet this man, Arima, who stopped playing piano after his mom, who fucking beat his ass, mind you, gets mad karma and fucking dies lmao. So he quits and then meets this girl named Cow ree or some shit and she can
...
play the violin like how I can play a hoe's pussy. We learn that she is a friend of a friend and Cow ree and Arima become friends. Arima and friends go to Cow ree's violin concert and he really enjoys her playing and how she doesn't strictly listen to the sheet music and styles her playing to her personality. Next concert, we learn her accompanist is being a bitch and won't be her accompanist because of her playing style. Cow ree asks Arima to be her accompanist and he also throws a hissy fit and whines a lot. But then after Cow ree begs and begs, Arima says yes. At the concert, Arima fucking flops in the middle but they manage to finish the song still. As the story progresses, Arima eventually develops feelings for Cow ree but he is too much of a pussy to actually confess his damn feelings. However, he and Cow ree still talk and eventually, Arima starts playing the piano again. Now there is a period of around 8-10 episodes where essentially nothing happens between Arima and Cow ree. Arima just plays in a few contests again against these random piano people who have a dilemma against him. Eventually, Cow ree gets like fucking cancer and she has to stay in the hospital. For some reason, Arima refuses to see her because he does not know how to talk to her. It is honestly some of the most maidenless behavior I have ever witnessed in my 15 years of existing. The worst part is the story ends and leaves you staring in shock at the biggest bruh moment you have ever seen. I don't want to spoil it but it is absolutely atrocious.
The characters are even worse than the story. First up and certainly least, Arima. One character I can compare him to is Kazuya from rent a girlfriend. They both are the most pussyless sexless virgins I have ever seen. The whole time, you are thinking, "Just ask Cow ree out!" But he doesn't and never ever does. Terrible and sad fucking ending I must say. He has absolutely no backbone, I fucking hate him. If there is one thing I would say to him, it would be to grow a pair and confess his damn feelings. The side characters also have back stories and they are really shitty. It just feels like filler and a lot of the time, you are just sitting there thinking "I don't give a fuck about any of this." With Cow ree, she was probably my favorite character but we got absolutely no background about her. She was just a plot device used to make Arima like piano again.
Music was some of the best I have seen in anime. The first theme song is fucking legendary, I wished they used it throughout the entire show but the 2nd opening is not half bad. Endings are both pretty great. OST was top tier, TOP TIER. Due to this being a music anime, the composers really put their heart and soul into making the tracks and they are breathtaking.
Overall, I thought the show was quite boring. Throughout the middle of the show, it felt like all that happened was Arima trying to do piano competitions and miserably failing them. There were also some episodes about the side characters which were a chore to get through. 4/10 in my opinion. Would be lower if the music wasn't so damn majestic. Arima and Cow ree's relationship left a bad taste in my mouth, I may just have bad taste myself but this was just my take on Your Lie on April, I'm sure there are people that do enjoy it.
