With Youtube, things are actually even weirder than I thought. Apparently, it does work on mobile traffic, it's just "slowed down" a lot, i.e. you can watch videos in the lowest quality and if you let it load for some time. On regular internet connection, however, it doesn't work at all. I have no idea what they were thinking. Still, as someone who doesn't use phone much, it's pretty useless.
The words of Nabokov always come to mind when I see these issues with translation:
I think you meant Zerofield? It's a shame what happened to them - it's still insane to me that you can get in trouble simply for translating things. I wonder, if they were based in some "3rd world country" that doesn't care about this stuff, could they avoid legal issues altogether?
Well, most of the decompiled files were in .json and .py extensions, so I just assumed things based on that alone. I edited both with notepad++. I think it's OK to mod your game however you want as long as you enjoy it. That's why I found it weird when Nexus Mods started policing what they allow to mod and what they don't.
Kafka is also voiced by one of my favorite seiyuus so it was an easy sell to me, especially with that design. I didn't want to start any new gachas, but ended up installing GFL2 when it was released, mainly because I've already played the first game, and man - in some aspects it's so good it's almost cheating. Firstly, the main party is definitely the best I've seen in any gacha - it has one of my favorites from GFL1 as well as two new awesome characters one of whom is voiced by Ohara Sayaka (my top-2 seiyuu after Uchida Maaya). Then those gorgeous character models and all the ways to interact with them. Story is also decent, although I'm still not done with what's currently available because I didn't have enough time to do so.
My experience with Witcher:
- Long time ago I tried reading books, but didn't like them enough to complete them.
- Tried playing the first Witcher game, but didn't like it.
- Heard many good things about Witcher 3, played it for ~8 hours and uninstalled.
I can't say that I hated anything about it, it just wasn't interesting enough for me to get invested. I've seen some news about Witcher 4 though. Apparently Geralt isn't going to be a protagonist now.
I don't believe it has anything to do with the workload or other respectful issues. Rewriting the dialogue takes more time than simply translating it and they are doing the former, e.g.:
JP: ほんと可愛くないわね。
Romaji: Honto (really) kawaikunai (not cute) wa ne (sentence enders for emphasis).
Machine translation (Google Translate, which is inferior to DeepL and ChatGPT): That's really not cute.
If we add context, it would be something like: Seriously, you're not cute, are you?
NISA TL: "Tell me, does one of your fancy sword moves involve pulling your head out of your ass?"
1. That translation has absolutely nothing to do with the original text. It's not even translation by this point.
2. You first had to translate it and then make up this sentence to replace the original with.
3. Even worse, it changed the character's personality, because now she (it's Juna's line) is injected with a heavy dose of sarcasm and rudeness that wasn't in the original script.
Moreover, it takes NISA several years to translate one game, whereas fans who are doing their TLs for free do it much faster and are much more accurate.
Time constraints is the worst thing that plagues all people who enjoy learning something new. Chinese would probably be more useful for me in the monetary sense in the long run, but I doubt I could find the same motivation I have towards learning Japanese. After all, the main reason I learned English was the same - to play video-games and watch things in English.
Thanks. I'm currently done with 52 lines of hers and I'm quite confident I can finish the rest of them too (unless our internet here becomes like in North Korea, then it would be impossible to do without certain tools and dictionaries).
I ended up looking through Kuro's game files and apparently most of it was coded on Python and JavaScript? At the very least, that's how decompiled files appear to me. The game's code is super complicated. Some things are easy to change, e.g. specific lines of text:
But something related to gameplay is a completely different beast. For example, I wanted to replay the game again with just her in the party (in other words solo, should provide more challenge).
- I managed to make her appear at the start of the game in the place I wanted.
- Made her say the lines I wanted + play the voice audio file.
- Made her join the party and remove all the other party members after talking to her.
- Managed to change her basic stats so that she's level one and has only basic equipment.
- Changed the stats of her weapon so that it's more appropriate for early game.
And that's it. I couldn't find a solution to the problems that occurred later:
- The first battle is unwinnable because from my understanding the game tries to trigger an event by referring to the protagonist who is no longer in the party, so the enemies are immortal.
Second issue is a bit spoilerish, so I won't say what it's about. The problem is that I have no idea how to figure out what specific lines of codes are doing and there are thousands of them which are unique to the game, so there's no manual to learn from.
The last time I had HSR installed was around Firefly's release. It was the same pattern as when the first Kafka banner started: I got the character, the light cone and uninstalled the game right away :D Who are you favorite HSR characters?
Speaking of Japanese language, it's been killing me lately. I know more than a thousand kanji, I can write hundreds of them by hand from the top of my head, I can understand the majority of what is being said by audio, and I'm still nowhere close to being able to play a Japanese game raw. It's almost like a curse - when you understand enough to notice all the egregious mistranslations, but not enough to not rely on English text at all. Worse yet, I'm not even sure how to proceed, especially when there is an urgency for me to dedicate my time to things that would stabilize my life, e.g. earning money. My only saving grace here is that with enough effort I can break down and comprehend Japanese text, so I can at least read Shizuna's lines the way they were meant to be. For example:
As for the site, I couldn't manage to make locally stored images work (the only exceptions are those which appear on the title page), so I had to upload all of the portraits on imgBB. There was some kind of error, but I can't remember which one exactly, "cross-something not allowed", I think. Regardless of that, after reading your explanations, I'm starting to think I might be more into front-end rather than back-end.
I didn't know that bit about Ruijerd before, but now I know. Interesting, so I guess the MT's author is a GoW's fan?
Ha-ha, so it's "the worst DLC in history" vs "one of the best DLCs of our time". Well, between you and some random Youtuber, I'd rather trust your opinion. That said, I wouldn't be able to play Elden Ring even if I wanted to: it will lag a lot on my PC. My old PC would be able to run it properly, but I foolishly left it at home because I didn't want to take such an expensive item through the border and a long road trip.
Hmm, unless I'm forgetting some, the only superhero movie I like is the Dark Knight with Heath Ledger on Joker and I also liked the Spider-Man cartoon (1994) when I was a kid, so I can't say I'm a fan of the superhero genre, but what you're describing doesn't sound bad.
I don't know about Kai (and I'd rather not know anything about it before I get to play it myself), but aside from little bits with Agnes and Elaine who clearly have feelings for Van, I didn't notice anything explicitly romantic in Kuro II. I'm not sure, maybe people just have very different definitions of romance? I guess you'll have to see it for yourself some day.
I don't have HSR installed unfortunately. At the moment the only gacha I'm still active in is Trails of Cold Steel: Northern War, which is honestly not a very good game.
Regardless of that, I'm not sure which I'd enjoy more - front-end or back-end, but from what I've already studied, python seems to be a "cleaner" language compared to the rest, i.e. it doesn't look as spaghetti and is generally shorter. Do you use SQL for your work, by the way? A friend of mine recommended me to learn it because it's very easy and apparently it is used everywhere.
My other friend is a God of War fan too, but as for me, I don't know a single thing about it other than how the protagonist looks like. If I'm not mistaken, it's been a console exclusive for a long time, and nowadays I'm not as interested in exploring new franchises as I was in older days. I saw a clickbait video title a few days ago, it was "Why Shadow of the Erdtree is the worst DLC in history" or something like that :D, but I didn't watch it. What's your opinion on Elden Ring being open world? I haven't played the game myself, but that's one thing I'm aware about it. I rarely watch live action, what "The Boys" is about?
As someone who liked romance parts of Cold Steel games, I'll allow myself to say that it's very mild in Kuro. Unlike Cold Steel and Crossbell, you can't pick a girl you like the most to romance her, there are no confessions, etc.. That said, it seems like many people dislike Kuro II for entirely different reasons, so I'm not sure if you're going to like it or not. Personally, though, it's my favorite to date, but I think Kai will be even better and currently it's a source of me being very salty since I don't have a console to play (and it's likely I wouldn't be able to purchase the game in PS store anyway) it and who knows when a PC port is going to be made. I just hope to live long enough to enjoy it to the fullest lol.
Sadly, I can't say I'm doing fine, but thank you and bless you too!
It's been quite a while since the last time we talked, but hopefully your internship went great and you're now in a better place in life than you were before that. Have a wonderful day and I wish you all the best!
Never heard of this Raging Loop before. If you play it, tell me what you think, maybe I'll give it a try some time in the future too. In a distant future, though, my backlog is very large. I liked the first three movies of Harry Potter back when I was a kid but that's all I can say about it. In recent times, all I've heard about it (and about Hogwarts Legacy) is that some crazy people were very vocal about boycotting it because HP's author sad something bad.
Yeah, those boots, man. What a godsent footwear. I'd polish them for Laura... Wait, that sounded weird, ha-ha... Agreed about Mushoku Tensei anime, I hope it'll be a full and true high-quality adaptation of its source material.
Good luck with your internship!
Unfortunately I'm not well versed about the situation in the Middle East, but that sounds rough. Actually, I think it's a bit of hypocritical of people being hysterical because of the Ukraine situation while they've been ignoring what was happening and still happens in the Middle East and Africa all the time.
Well what can I say, globalism turned out to be a mistake... Nations should be the ones who determine what's in the best interest of their countries and not foreigners or cosmopolitans. I think it's asinine to expect people who have no ties to a country and its culture to have good intentions for it.
I took me almost a year but I finally realized one messed up thing about this war in Ukraine. Essentially, it's the war between Russia and Western powers on the territory of Ukraine, but Ukraine isn't allowed to attack Russia because it can get destroyed in retaliation and Russia isn't allowed to attack Western countries even though that's where most equipment, vehicles and information comes from. So in other words Ukraine is just like a shooting range for both sides. Admittedly, however, Russian people suffer too because of the draft and sanctions, meanwhile Americans and Europeans don't have to suffer the same consequences even though they're fueling this conflict. They are more preoccupied with such important first world matters like preferable pronounces, sending transgender athletes to women's competitions, censoring video-games, etc.
Sometimes I wonder, if Russian government wasn't such a pushover and sent an ultimatum to the West - either cut support to Ukraine and lift all the sanctions or we'll start a nuclear warfare against every state which is a part of it - how would West react? Ironically, all parts of Western society - it's government, it's people, it's elites, - all have much more to lose in case of nuclear war than already poor people of Russia.
Romance in that VN is supplementary and the story itself is a detective fiction. I don't know how to say much about it without spoiling anything since it heavily relies on some plot twists.
True, Laura has a great sense when it comes to clothing, although....................... I still like her boots from CSI the most out of every pair she wore. And I generally like Thors uniform to be honest.
Norn here looks very cute here. I wonder who I'll end up liking the most in Mushoku Tensei... It's been a tough battle between Roxy and Eris so far.
Also, sorry for replying late. I don't remember if I mentioned it before, but even if I have time, I don't want to give half assed replies just because I was in a foul mood.
With devaluation and inflation it's even worse because not only it's a reset button for common people, it's actually a wealth transfer. When someone loses, someone gains. One of the worst things is when big business, especially international, starts buying up land and industries when your economy tanks.
G-senjou no Maou. One of the girls from there, Usami Haru, was my favorite before I discovered Laura x)
Devaluation of currency/inflation is one of the wickedest things about the economy in general, at least in my opinion. It ensures your money always loses value unless you spend or invest it, so you can't just accumulate it. I don't know much about modern day Egypt (aside from the fact that people from Ukraine liked to go on vacations there), but that sounds tough. From what I see, governments bring so much trouble for their people its saddening we as species can't go without them. Your country, my countries, people from other countries... All have a lot to complain about their governments. It's like it's politicians jobs to make our lives more miserable.
From what I understand, it used to be a credible organization until late 2021. Then a new director came to power and ruined everything.
Haji had some good Rixia moments too and I really loved Nadia amongst the newer characters. Don't remember if I shared this one previously or not.
I'm meh. Nothing too serious at the moment but I'm not sure what to do going forward considering I lost my place to live back in march and the prices for an apartment or a house are astronomical. I also got scammed by an educational organization when I tried to get an IT education. They took around 2000 usd (which is a lot of money where I'm from) and for four months fucked with me (and other students) with empty promises and sugar words. I probably will have to sue them but I'm not sure if it will bring any results.
How are you doing?
