- The two shows have almost the exact same character types for the main cast. - Deep dives into friendship and how it works. - Love polygons that lead to a big dramatic group fight. - A supernatural twist, though it's more prominent in Kiznaiver than AnoHana.

Both shows deal with spirits, ghosts, urban legends and the exorcising thereof, and have a slightly creepy element to them. Both shows also have a young, enigmatic and charismatic title character whose past is shrouded in mystery and is hard to figure out in terms of what he's actually thinking and feeling. Both shows start off more episodic with a monster-of-the-week plot. The overall vibe and atmosphere I've gotten from Hanako-kun reminds me a lot of Muhyo and Roji as well.

A kid with a very powerful ability is taken in by an organization of gifted individuals. The individuals include a whole host of over-the-top quirky characters, while the MC is a somewhat timid young boy who is constantly targeted for his powers. Both anime start out a little episodic while we are introduced to the rest of the large cast, before something of a plot emerges. The MC also tries to save a girl caught in a bad situation in both cases. Both anime are sporadically action-packed and comedic.
