As you may have heard, K-On is a pretty cute show. If you hadn't heard...it is. As many others have said, don't watch it if you don't like cutesy kinds of shows.
K-On is the first full season of anime I've ever completed. I'd seen pictures from it around and I finally decided to watch it to see what it was about. I was pleasantly surprised.
K-On a feel-good kind of show. It'll make you smile. There's nothing too serious going on. There's nothing perverted. It's good clean fun. It would be hard to get offended watching this show, no matter who you are. It's

silly high school girls being silly. That's an aspect I really love about the show. It lets girls be girls. It's not trying to turn them into something they're not. They're young girls having fun together, facing joys and struggles in a school club. The lack of drama might be unrealistic, but is nonetheless refreshing.
The characters are all adorable and unique. I personally could identify with different aspects of each character, but I'm sure many people identify specifically with one or the other since the girls are all very different. Mugi, Mio, and Azusa are all shy, but in their own way. Mugi is content being quiet. Mio is more serious and paralyzed by embarrassment. Azusa is reserved and always wants to do what is proper. And then you have your extroverts, Yui and Ritsu. Yui is in her own little world, amused by cute things and food. She's lazy, but charming. Ritsu is more hyper and crazy, always wanting to have fun. These characters together form delightful and inspiring simple friendships.
I didn't watch the series all at once, but spread out over a few months. At times it seemed to jump around a bit. But there is no complex plot. You could really jump in at almost any time and things would probably make sense for the most part. Some episodes just felt like they didn't really matter though, such as training camp episodes or the extra winter-day. They just diverted from the plot, although it isn't complex in any way. Also characters such as Azusa and Sawako Yamanaka seemed random and unnecessary to add in, but once they were there I appreciated them.
I was expecting more original music from the girls, but sadly it wasn't delivered. Much like Mio and Azusa are at times disappointed with the group's progress, so was I. There were only a few songs they wrote. And they were only briefly featured.
K-On holds a lot more potential than it actually presents in many aspects, but it is enjoyable nonetheless because of its innocence.
