Mahoujin Guruguru (2017)

Two incredible shows that demonstrate the art and fun of an RPG. Mahoujin Guruguru emphasize more of the adventure and companionship of misfit allies in a universe governed by typical video game RPG tropes and rolls it into a playful comedy. Log Horizon on the other hand is a capable depiction of what life would very much be like if players in an MMORPG were to suddenly transport into a that very video game where they must learn to create community, lawful control, and maintain the path towards feeling like they belong in this (not so) new world— a world that was once familiar now feeling foreign once again. Both show are rather opposite of one another and share very little commonalities, but if you like RPGs, great anime, and shows that are just a bit different to the typical hot topic anime of the seasons, then check both of these babies out.

Both show involve high school girls participating in militaristic activity for fun. Whether you’re more of a grounded terrain, on-the-front-lines connoisseur or an oceanic battlefield, for-comba-and-trade aficionado, both shows will provide you plenty of entertainment and joy.

Hametsu no Mars

Elfen Lied literally feels like Mars of Destruction in terms of unintentionally comical violence, lolis dying, and the subject of shock utterly failing to connect its viewer to the material. If you enjoyed Elfen Lied and want something so bad it’s good but in a condensed, quick viewing then watch Mars of Destruction. If you enjoyed or couldn’t get into Mars of Destruction and want something with more material and arguably more interesting then consider Elfen Lied. Either way I cannot help but think these shows are the same.

Eureka Seven is a fulfilling coming-of-age adventure packed nicely in a well paced 50 episode piece. It’s a show in the midst of a war between the government and an ex-military crew made up of a rag-tag group of artists, photographers, journalist, dancers, music heads, and wave-surfers, who aim to liberate the world on alien knowledge and to eradicate the fear that was spread by said government. There’s love, death, and music references galore and it’s one of the main components that rocketed my lust for anime knowledge. There’s not a single show that matches the quality I believe we all mostly hope for during a post-Gurren slump
