Beck!
My name is Beck. Outside of real life, I do what I can to watch anime and, to a lesser extent, read manga. I don’t have the free time I’d like to complete more shows and the like as I once could before, with work, wrestling, a relationship, on top of other hobbies including listening to new music, playing video games, going to the gym, and long car rides (for work and pleasure) all taking up too much of my time. Despite all of this I’m dedicated to check in on this site from time to time and I hope to stay engaged with the people I befriend on here too.
Feel free to flip through my lists and their “tags”/reviews (super outdated af btw so I need to update those whenever I get the chance lol) for an idea of my thoughts and opinions on what I enjoy. I like comparing lists and seeing others’ ratings and reviews too. Don’t be shy to recommend things and to leave a comment on my page or send out a DM for those who aren’t added as a friend.
Stay safe and know you’re loved.
TOP 10 FAVORITE VIDEO GAMES
I’ve not played a lot of my favorite games to completion. In the case of FF VIII, I’ve put in a lot of time in the game but even more watching Let’s Plays of it. A lot of these entries were chosen for the impact that stuck with me and their comfort levels. It’s important for a game to have a sense of “idling” to it, but it’s not a necessity. My favorite game on here, which is essentially a fan game, doesn’t exactly have that, but the comfort levels of it are still peak for me and has a strong sense of nostalgia. Earthbound’s a game with loads of personality and uses it’s art design, writing, and music to embed itself in our minds. Animal Crossing and BotW both exude comfort and idleness in similar yet unique ways. YCC is a fun board-like game that displays a different side of a beloved childhood card game with a 10/10 ost to boot. Mario 64 and Melee are simply classics with wondrous legacies. And Pokemon White 2 and Pokémon Xmas are two amazing entrees with Xmas being a cozy snowscape.
TOP 10 FAVORITE ALBUMS
This list perhaps changes more than the other two. These are just the 10 that currently feel “the most right” and I’m happy enough with the selection to have them represented here. Frank Ocean is one of those artists I feel like everyone loves and respects to a degree and has been enamored with at least one of his tracks, but blonde is an album that feels personal. It’s an album that isn’t attempting to “sell” and it has an atmosphere unlike anything close to his contemporaries. Same for NMH. This is an album that I genuinely can’t picture a single person hating. It’s beautiful. I can say that about all of these albums but this is of a different scope. The Strokes are easily my favorite band and saying Is This It is my favorite is like ignoring the other legendary work they’ve done. Imogen Heap’s album is a sleeper hit and deserves more ears on it. I can also say that about the other albums too lol. The top 6 though are exceptional and are on a higher plane of love than the other four.
TOP 10 FAVORITE FILMS
Cinema is easily the medium that shaped me the most. These ten didn’t necessarily impact me within my adolescence, Pinocchio being the closest one that did when I was 19, but with my young adulthood I feel evermore connected with everything I am viewing on screen—striking me with each delicate frame. Parasite is a great barometer for what deserves a spot in my favorite films. A exceptional must-watch for sure. The Elephant Man is the most recent film of these I’ve seen, and even after having seen it only twice and within a three day span, it’s breathtaking, heavy-hitting, and had me thinking “I’m so glad I watched this before I’ve died.” Marriage Story is another one that I didn’t expect to love so much. Feels like it clearly blows other film out the water. But so do the others here. End of Eva is probably forever my favorite film. Nothing’s like it. It’s not a stand along film but it’s worth the experience. So much to say for the rest. I love these films so much. I’m happy they exist.

This guy makes kinda like... Summaries of every 2 volumes in one video, but I don't mean analyzes and stuff. It's just a compilation of animated panels with music in the backgound. Really good stuff. 1 should cover what you've read so far, 2 covers volumes 3 and 4 (kinda, as it only focuses on Punpun), and 3 will be coming soon.
I'm waiting for it before I continue
I don't think anyone should go through that...
Where you are it's pretty fun, and in a way, IS pretty normal, but... Volume 4 onward, shit goes down. Or at least it's starting to. And not just for him, a very important part of the story is his Uncle's POV, and it's quite overlooked, sadly.
Huh, I didn't know Asano's thoughts on it. Very interesting.
And yeah, I'll let you know :3
Yeah, PunPun just gets better and deeper and sadder, doesn't it?
I guess I'll have to get into the Eva manga. I'll put it on the list.
My opinion of you as a cultured individual still stands tho.
Oof, manga.
Well, I've started to add some titles, though I'd love to read the serious ones phisically.
I've mostly added the ones that everyone agrees they're good.
The one I can say I've read a bit is PunPun
That one WILL be the only one I own completely.
I want to, at least. At least that one.
I've bought volume 3 cuz it's the one the store had, and I've read up to the 6th online.
I haven't read the Eva manga.
I am glad that Hideaki has found his closure in this ending.
And I do appreciate the fact that "Oh, Shinji got his happy ending, finally", but the issues I find with it (though they may be personal only) just were too overwhelming. Even if 4.0 had been a masterpiece for me I'd have given it like an 8, due to how the other Rebuilds had turned out.
I think what bothers me the most is that folks don't see how NGE and EoE happen at the same time, and how the whole deal was already a happy ending.
But yeah, I'm now fine with it. I can move on, keep praising the OGs.
But my score might not change for a good while.
Well... The thing about the Rebuilds is that they've been tumbling down for a while imo.
The first odd stuff came with 2.0, adding mari and having the impact earlier, but it was alright.
Then the friggin' timeskip.
It did it again. Not only did it not explain the origin, it didn't show the midpoint (which honestly sounds pretty rad)
3.0 was just weird. I don't think it was done with any message behind it tbh, like the OGs, I truly feel it was just weird cause it was Evangelion and Evangelion is weird.
4.0 obviously had a message. And honestly, gendo's resolution is ok. But I just didn't like the rest. The excessive fanservice, the deus ex machina, the obsolescence of the enemy evas... I honestly didn't like most of the fight scenes, and the additional impact just feels like something done to match EoE, but that fails horribly imo.
My favorite section in the whole film was the sequence in the village. The rest... No, thank you.
And, well... Then there's the whole cycle idea.
I hate it.
Just, straight up hate it.
That... That's it, I guess.
I know maybe some of that might be a hot take, and once again it's just my opinion, not a fact. But... Yeah...
I really didn't like it but, I guess that's just me.
I'm rewatching the OG show and EoE
Those two will always have a place in my heart
I thought so as I saw you hadn't rated it yet
Take your time
