As a light novel reader, this is one of my favourite series. However, the anime completely butchers it. I plan to make this review short. I don't know which genius thought they should rush the entire adaptation, trying to cover 10 volumes of content, and skipping over 3 important volumes, as well as rushing an entire fight that took span over a couple of chapters in less than 10 minutes in an episode. This was one of the most terrible adaptations I have ever seen, and the manga is far better of an adaptation if you give it a try. It upsets me how many

attack the series just cause they feel the presence of an underage romance, which is all because of the fault of the adaptation. It is clear in the light novels, that there is no real romance between them, but rather both Kufa and Melida are bonded by kinship, because they're the first people to accept each other. None of Kufa's backstory is covered in detail, however, so you lack the foundation and context to properly sympathize with his character. Most of his monologuing and feelings are cut as well, making him seem interested in Melida, when it's far from the case. In reality, he has no romantic feelings towards anyone, or rather, he is not even capable of doing so. Every seemingly romantic action he performs for Melida, he performs it as a sign of his duty and giving her confidence as a teacher. He uses this as manipulation to further her progress, and delay their executions for leaving her alive and helping her in the start.
