X Densha de Ikou
add

Both star an everyman bored of their life routines, before developing crazy psychic powers. Both OVAs have an extremely fast pacing with a very experimental direction. X Train is relatively more grounded but they both share a fresh aura of freedom. In a way, X Train is like the middle aged man version of FLCL.

Both were directed and written by Rintarou, featuring a chaotic structure, frenetic pacing and insane concepts with a very distinct, appealingly fugly artstyle influenced by Americana.

Both are very dark horror anthologies with elements of Romance and sexy undertones, following a grounded protagonist (Cop and writer respectively) encountering a supernatural individual with mysterious origins (or group of thereof) and getting involved in numerous, often tragic, paranormal incidents based on mythology (Requiem is specifically Japanese, Petshop takes from all cultures around the world)

Both are 90's series about a human-Yokai duo, one weaker than the other, who initially argue a lot but slowly grow closer as they fight Yokai, though InuYasha is more focused on romance and character drama while Ushio is a more typical hero's journey.

Both are 90's series about kickass teenagers fighting Yokai with their cool Yokai friends, though Ushio is far more episodic, the two have pretty cool action and likable characters.

Gokudou-kun Manyuuki
add

Both are lighthearted adventure comedies from the 90's starring chaotic groups of friends with selfish goals causing tons of accidental destruction in high fantasy worlds. Those Who Hunt Elves has main the difference of being an Isekai, although, that isn't revealed until episode 2. Also unlike in Gokudo, the protagonists have a far more wholesome relationship.

Sonic★the★Hedgehog
add

-Both are short videogame adaptations that take many liberties from their source material while still being relatively faithful. -Both take place in a blend of sci-fi and high fantasy, and have vague post-apocaliptic implications. -Both have a similar Akira Toriyama inspired sense of humor (Slapstick, light echii, goofy subversions, gags in the middle of fights)
