Well well well would you look at that. A third installment in Hiro Mashima's shitty retcon shounen series. At first we had Rave then the clusterfuck that is Fairy Tail and now Eden's Zero.
Story-2/10
The same adventure concept with troubles in between. It's nothing new and a concept we have seen over and over again. Basically fairy tails dragon slayer magic system but in a sci-fi setting. The laws behind said system are still not made clear a hundred chapters in. The fights don't utilize any form of clever mechanics or use of the ether gear. All of them end with a Jotaro star platinum
...
finger extension. The plot twists are super predictable and not even enjoyable. There is some world building done for sure but nothing beyond the basics. I would also like to add that the villains are not interesting and provide no reason for us to sympathize or dislike them. They just exist.
Art-7/10
Credit where credit is due he has been doing this for a long time so of course the art is going to be good. All said and done Mashima is skilled at drawing fight scenes not to mention his backgrounds and effects. With the positives out of the way i must say the character designs are uninspired and boring. All of them are flat and take absolutely blatant inspiration from his previous works. This is not really something inherently wrong but it gets so bland when you've read two other works with the literal same characters in terms of visuals. What I have realized from his works so far is that he is lazy with his character designs to the point of them being super pathetic. We never see a new or innovative character design for any of the main casts and while the guardians of the ship, Pino, and Weisz do have some new designs Rebecca, Lavilla, the mc who's name I forgot are all the same as their previous iterations. Lastly I would like to mention the biggest offender of this Happy. Happy was a literal copy paste and I have nothing else to say about this. With all that said I would like to end off with a positive note with the environments and backgrounds which are gorgeous.
Characters-2/10
All of them are cliched and stereotyped. The character drama is utterly bland and does not even attempt to be enjoyable. The mc is an airhead. Rebecca is an annoying character that gets dragged along by the mc. Weisz is your textbook pervert. It feels like all the characters are just there for comedic relief and no other purpose. All of them are boring and I can't help but hate them beyond all logic due to how pathetic and lazy the writing of the characters are. The villains are uninteresting and we see the Oracion Seis a THIRD time in his series. Too many characters are copy pastes that have no personality of their own other than their stereotypes and cliches.
Enjoyment-2/10
To be fair the first few arcs were enjoyable because they showed some or other promise. The later arcs however just don't have that same promise. It gets absolutely boring and some really really obvious arcs can have obvious parallels drawn to his other works. This manga has some humor but all of it is pure slapstick humor with no wit in it. The only thing even remotely funny was the circus that is the copy paste cast.
Overall-3/10
Don't read this. This boring unoriginal and lazy manga does not deserve an anime. Again all this is my opinion but honestly there are troves of better manga and light novels that deserve anime over this. I feel like the only reason it has even gotten this far is the blatant fan service and the name Hiro Mashima. If it were not for these two this manga would have probably been axed ages ago. Please don't waste your time reading it unless you are a masochist that likes getting stressed over lazy and unoriginal tropey cliched writing.

Ok now where to even begin.I really hope this doesn't turn into a rant but here we go.
The Story- 1/10
There's nothing to be discussed here.End of story. The anime follows a pathetic mc that gets dumped by his girlfriend of one month, partakes in soft core prostitution so he doesn't feel lonely and the only way the story is even pulled out is by having the ridiculously horrible mc keep putting pressure and problems on to the extremely benevolent rental girlfriend. The entire plot is composed of just this so far.Its just an utter failure at a rom com and doesn't even have a story worth discussing. The writing
...
is equally bad.I see no direction that the plot can follow. The dialogue is a bad attempt at being witty. There is no charm to this show anywhere be it the plot, its writing or its jokes.
The Art- 5/10
So far its okay. Its the overused over saturated artwork everyone's familiar with. The character designs themselves aren't all too memorable. The limelight is put on the rental-girlfriends and it seems to me that the mc was just forgotten. Its so damn difficult to differentiate him from bg characters in the show.He has no memorable features and the only surefire way I found to differentiate him is his constantly nervous face. The shading and coloring is good enough though at at least hits a bare minimum standard.
Sound- 6/10
The soundtrack was moderate.Nothing special or good. The voice acting is done rather well, mixing, sound effects and foley handled nicely. All that said there really isn't anything memorable other than the opening.Even that I feel is a plus because its done by the peggies which is a shame because its wasted on this show. The voice actors do relatively well to get the point and emotions across which somehow makes the horrible dialogue somewhat bearable.Props to the voice actors for somehow not making my ears bleed with the dialogues.
Edit:I forgot to mention this before but their sound direction is really weird.Out of nowhere heavy metal starts playing.Normally I love heavy stuff but when its either over a masturbation scene or a bad inner monologue.I really can't find any positives for this show and I keep noticing new flaws.
The Characters- 1/10
Completely and utterly forgettable.Be it the mcs or the side characters no one stuck out or spoke to me.Lets start with Mizuhara. Unrealistic expectation of how benevolent and generous a person can be.Who the hell would put up with what the mc puts them through all that.Somehow this makes her slightly likable. The ex Mami is probably my favorite character only because she disses the mc. Finally the mc whose name I can't remember for the life of me.This is not done for dramatic effect and I genuinely can't remember his name.Anyways where do we start, the mc is pathetic to a point of tragedy. He gets dumped after a month proceeds to beat his meat thrice, partake in soft-core prostitution AND manages to put himself between a rock and a hard place in 24 hours. He has no positives. He does think of what Mizuhara is doing for him but he never thanks her properly or repents. The mc is an unlikable horrible human being that's better off being a ntr character. He is way too horny, unfunny, inconsiderate, unhelpful, pathetic etc etc to be considered likable. The other background characters are nothing special either.None of them are memorable and fall short in helping portray the story and in being likable. You probably won't even care about the characters while watching or after you finish the show.Simply put forgettable, unoriginal, pathetic and boringly written.
Enjoyment- 1/10
This was supposed to be a romantic comedy and I see neither anywhere. The gags are not well written and never even managed to make me smile. Most if not all the jokes/gags made me cringe and the plot is utterly horrendous. The characters are boring and unimportant with mediocre art as a medium.I'm sorry to say there really isn't any positives for the series for me other than its voice acting that gets overshadowed by the horrible characters. Also why tf would a show thats supposed to be relatively lighthearted and fun give me anxiety when a new episode releases.Maybe something is wrong with me but whenever a new episode releases I'm scared to watch it and avoid it until the very last moment. This is the first time I've ever had this sort of feeling with a show and it is just ridiculous. For a show that is supposed to 'lift your spirits' every week all i get is the jitters and a panic attack leading up to the absolute DOOM soundtrack bass drop level drop in my mood.Every episode manages to both give a panic attack AND put me in a slump.
Edit:God damn it.Why is the humor limited to masturbation jokes.I really just give up.It has nothing in terms of humor other than shitty attempts at fanservice.
Overall- 3/10
There's just way too many negatives for me to even recommend this to anyone. Please do yourself a favor and watch something else. This is not worth your time and it never will be from what I have personally seen. KanoKari fails at what it was trying to be and ends up being a show that should be ridiculed.I started this series with high hopes which made the sub-parity of the show even more prominent. This anime is a utter waste of time and the only time it should be recommended is to use as an example of what not to do.

Before I write this review I would like to preface that I am a massive fan of Haikyuu and Furudate in general but I am trying to keep this as unbiased and fair as possible. Also I am avoiding spoilers with it being a mystery manga and all so I'm gonna have a hard time explaining the plot.I hope you can still put up with it though.
Story-9/10
There are many similar plot lines but never have I read or seen one that takes such a unique direction. The rather short manga follows a middle school student Nakashima Makoto (who just so happens to make a cameo in Haikyuu
...
as well so yay) as she seeks help from one of the mysteries of the school. In this case the illusory eighth Yotsuya Buntarou to help find her missing best friend. They solve a string of mysteries throughout the story all with unique and interesting progressions as the plot progresses. They solve a total of 7 school mysteries over the course of the 18 chapters of the main story. The unraveling of the mysteries is done in an extremely unique method, through the use of horror stories.Yotsuya utilizes his talent of narration to tell these stories as he exposes the crimes and mysteries behind all the cases.Masterfully weaving together his words and captivating both his character audience and the reader. The horror stories themselves follow a similar structure but have story specific twists that differentiates them. The cases themselves don't follow cliches and are very original as well.
Art-8/10
I am giving this the benefit of doubt because the scan I read was very bad. With that out of the way the art does not disappoint. The character designs are well drawn and memorable that is other than the main character though which is why this is at an eight. The backgrounds are well drawn and the two page spreads really creative. The facial expressions were utterly amazing. The emotions were drawn with much skill especially for Yotsuya who has some really creepy yet badass faces in the manga. The other mc has a rather forgetful design which does get in the way slightly but the villains and antagonists are specific and fit into the story really well.Lastly I want to bring up the disturbing panels. The bone-chilling panels with minimalist gore still manages to unsettle the reader with the creative use of tones and perspective.
Character-8/10
The characters themselves were not given too much backstory directly, especially the two main characters. Most of their backstory and background information comes from situational dialogue and background characters.
It seemed to me like the focus of the story is put on the characters of the mysteries in the manga instead of the characters of the manga themselves which really fits the bill. All the antagonists have odd motives that make their crimes interesting. While most of them are made to be the textbook psycho killers the rest have their own unique take on the trope which helps to keep things fresh.
Yotsuya is a unique character that I couldn't fit into any tropes because his behavior is just that unorthodox. In a sense he is your typical detective protagonist.A bit crazy in the head with a strong sense of justice. But where other detectives have some form of supernatural, prodigal or technological aid he has none of them. All he has is his charismatic gravity and the talent of narration. Yotsuya draws in the reader with his skillful narration, clever play on words and his charismatic emotes. It is made clear very early on that he is both the centerpiece of the manga and its narrator.
The other side characters all fall into common stereotypes and don't get much panel time because of the short length of the manga so I won't bother with them too much.
Enjoyment-9/10
There's no good reason not to read this. Will it blow off your sock?No but I can guarantee that Yotsuya will pull you into the rabbit hole that is the art of telling horror stories as they explore the mysteries and crimes that go on in the school. The chapters are well paced which makes the delivery of the plot even more significant and enjoyable. The characters and antagonists are the type that don't stick out too much but just enough to grab your attention making for a special dynamic I have found rarely in other manga.During the short one and a half hour it took me to finish reading this I was enthralled for every moment and I can wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who has the time.It is in the truest sense of the word a hidden gem.
Overall-8/10
Short, interesting, and with a gravity that pulls you in Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya-senpai is a surefire recommendation that deserves much much more attention.

To preface the manga this is really nothing new at all.It uses a multitude of cliches without really making too many attempts at being original and I will be the first to admit that. While I do say that the manga does not take many risks it works for me.
Story-7/10
The story is baseline common. There's this guy who was two childhood friends. One being an Idol while the other is a Gal.He likes the younger Idol sister but has grown apart from the two.The girls like him back but hide this fact. It's a very common premise that has been used a multitude of times sure but it takes
...
a unique take on the aforementioned premise. The writer utilizes the false relationship trope in a way very reminiscent of Nisekoi which is partially why I enjoy this manga so much. The story goes on with our self-insert mc going on a "date" with the younger sister that disguises her self as the older twin so that she doesn't cause a scandal. The two get found out by some of their classmates and their pictures get leaked among the class. This forces the older sister and the mc into a false relationship so that the younger sisters Idol career that she has built up for so long does not fall apart. We go through the common tropes of study sessions, peer pressure and so on so forth.Nothing spectacular but in my opinion the pacing is incredible. The mangaka has somehow jam packed so much content into single chapters that don't take too long to read but feel like an entire episode or two of an anime in its content.Often when a writer puts in that much content the pacing can feel a bit rushed but that wasn't the case here.We are led through these events in a unique pace that keeps you enthralled constantly waiting for what comes next.
Art-8/10
The art is not really something we have never seen before either but it is done well. The lines are clean and clear and the characters well drawn. The designs don't lean on prerequisites much, giving each character their own flair. The facial expressions are beautifully drawn and get their point across well enough. This is true for especially the sisters and can be seen in the many faces of the older sister who has for the first few chapters been given the spotlight. The backgrounds are not in most panels but are there when they need to be.
Characters-7/10
As the story has not progressed much it only having been a few chapters in there is not too much to go off of.The two sisters are very unique and set apart from the crowd. The older sister has had feelings for the mc since he was a child due to reasons that I shall not highlight as they may be considered major spoilers in a sense. We know that the younger Idol also likes the brother but the reason for doing so has not been revealed. The reason behind the mc's crush still hasn;t been revealed but I have high hopes so far.The characters are like able and work well together. While the fake couple carries a bundle of awkwardness around with them it feels very natural in terms of execution.
Enjoyment-9/10
The manga up to this point has been very enjoyable. The jokes funny and the awkward chemistry between the characters very endearing. The story was average but extremely well paced keeping hooked from the beginning. There has not been a moment so far that has felt dull to me.
Overall-8/10
This manga may be a bit of a guilty pleasure read due to its.....well stark similarity to series such as Nisekoi and 5toubun.While I can understand remarks calling it unoriginal i do still believe this warrants itself a read as a feel-good read at the very least. In the absolute minimum the character interactions, art and pacing will not disappoint.

"THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS"
Before you read this keep in mind that I have not read the source material and while do plan to read it later that should not matter while writing this review. The review is based on my opinion from the 12 episodes that i have watched so do bear in mind it will have "spoilers" from that timeframe.
First of all this is an ongoing series so its wholly possible that the anime can improve but there really is so much wrong with the series from the get go.
The story so far is barely given any background and there's little world building done.Yeah
...
they had those 3 or 4 tower history segments which do what they are supposed to but don't really add anything to the story now.The entire plot hinged on Bam being helped by others. You have Yuri reverse simping and then Khun and Rak carrying him through the tests.Later you have him be taught everything by other characters without Bam really discovering anything on his own.The administrators test is blindly rushed into and not even explained properly. The explanations went completely over my head and made barely any sense. Why is it that Bam is the one taking the test but he has to do barely anything and why does the mc getting carried become such a common theme. The anime can be funny at times and did make me laugh a bit but some jokes go over my head and feel overblown. But due to its messy incoherent pacing the story and plot gets a 4/10
The characters are to be honest really well done.Everyone except Bam though. While the other characters have some really interesting backstories and understandable motivations like Khun being betrayed and kicked out of his family trying to help Bam to stop him from suffering the same way and Aanak climbing the tower due to what happened to her family. The other parts of the cast like the rankers and other people taking the test are fun to watch because of their unique charm but Bam lacks all of that.I'm all for the tower of simp memes but I do get why he would go so far as to give his own life for Rachel.Rachel was the literal first person he met from what I gathered and the first person to show him kindness so to an extent his motivation is justified but he is just such a boring character.Bam has barely any memorable dialogue and really the only ones that I can even remember are him calling out to Rachel.Bam literally does nothing on his own 12 episodes into the anime, for every single problem he is either led by the hand, given a regalia,or just carried by other characters. To be fair he does have his moments but there really isn't much to make you like him as a character. Not to mention the prodigal powers he was given from the get-go.Due to Bam's lackluster performance as an MC the characters get a 4/10.
I see people talking negatively about the art and I feel like that's bs.IMO the art style is new and different and a good change of pace from the oversaturated art most anime use now.It has a uniqueness to it that seperates it from the crowd. The animation is pretty smooth even though it gets clunky at times. The use of CGI is so far good and fits in to the scenes.I don't get why people shit on the art because its not that bad.The art style is something new and different and works fine for me so art gets a 7/10
The sound design and music are all very good. The opening and endings are well done and something that I feel people can enjoy outside of the anime. The Foley is pretty good and the voice acting is good enough.I didn't really see too much wrong with it so the sound gets an 7/10
The anime was pretty mediocre. It tries a few new things here and there and some work while others don't.The anime so far is somewhat enjoyable so I do suggest at least giving it a shot.It just wasn't my cup of tea going into it blind and without expectations.I also don't see the point people giving the series a 9 are making. An anime shouldn't be rated based on its potential but what it has managed to accomplish and sadly for me Kami no Tou hasn't accomplished much.If the series does take a turn for the better I have no issues taking back my statements but it really isn't deserving of a 8 average rating.Because of the convoluted messy plot and pacing I didn't really enjoy the anime much so it gets a 3/10.
Overall rating 4/10
This is worth a watch because of the significance it has in the anime industry going forward but I feel like its a hard pass if we are talking on the basis of it just being an anime with no forethought to the impact it might have however below average it has been for me so far.

To be honest this show was a pain in the ass to watch.
The story-3/10
Before I say anything let me preface this. The concept is really interesting and unique. You have these historic Japanese authors all going into novels to fight supernatural creatures from destroying literature. So good so far right?Well it went pretty good for the first 2 or 3 episodes. The pacing was solid and actually really interesting but its after the first few episodes that it fall apart. After the a fore mentioned first few episodes begins the shitstorm. They have a episode about farming for no damn reason then have a weird yaoi romance arc for an
...
episode where the writers go to the real world or something.I am not sure as to whether that was a in a book but I do believe it was not and literally just took place on Earth. They constantly add new characters out of nowhere, something that mind you was an important part of the cohesion of the story. In 2 episodes they somehow managed to cram around 20 new characters all without descriptions. The pacing was almost like someone was forcefully trying to fit over sized gears into a complex clockwork mechanism. It all just fell apart from there.Although I say that I must admit the last few episodes were very good. The psychological and character drama was well represented and honestly carry the show.
Art-8/10
This is probably the place where the show really manages to shine. The character designs are really unique for the main cast.Specifically the designs of Akutagawa and Dazai were some that stuck to me.The contrasting colors between the two were a very pleasing aesthetic which means quite a bit because the two show up almost every episode. This doesn't apply to the sub cast. The designs at that point got really similar to the point of me constantly mixing them up.The weapon designs were over embossed and complicated with pointless decoration but cool I guess. The the side characters felt way too similar to each other.Besides that the only other shortcoming I feel was the overuse of flashy cuts and transitions during fights which is a damn shame. The animation is smooth and pretty. The fights are really well choreographed as well. All in all this show had some really amazing artwork that really grew on me.
Sound-6/10
The OST is really good. The sound direction and foley is very well done and there isnt anything I can call out the show for.The voice acting for the anime was also well done and gave the characters much needed life.
Characters-2/10
Oh boy.Theres just nothing to say here. The authors themselves were stereotyped to death, felt boring, were unoriginal and nothing worth remembering.Beyond all of that there is also the overly concentrated sub cast.Theres wayyyyyy too many side characters and they dont even get properly introduced properly. Some of them were extremely annoying too and the bromance was unnecessary.I swear the only good character is Akutagawa.
Enjoyment-4
As mentioned before there were a few episodes I really enjoyed but the horrible middle episode really threw a wrench in the works. The humor didn't work well for me other than the Bungou Gourmet sections.
Overall-4/10
I do think this is worth a watch if you have spare time but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to any body. There are way too many missed opportunities and much wasted potential which is really disappointing. All said and done this a below average show due to its crappy pacing and oddball humor.

Ill keep this short just like the manga. The story was nothing new,it wasn't something exceptional and neither was it something subpar. The author somehow managed to cram in quite a bit of lore that made sense to me.While the characters were also rather generic and fell into very common archetypes were memorable and had quite enjoyable backstories. The interactions between the characters really stood out to me while reading this especially that of Rago and Jiro. The chemistry between the two was nice and I absolutely adored Shiba's character as the father figure of the group.Although there are such positives they do fall short in their individuality
...
and came off as somewhat unoriginal due to their archetypes. The art is probably my favorite part of this entire manga.I'm not well versed at all in the techniques used in drawing manga but I do understand flow of motion and perspective. These points were handled masterfully and the character designs were a bit unoriginal to be fair but so incredible to look at.The action scenes had an impeccable sense of motion and the character designs of full power Amagi,Rago and Jiro were drop dead gorgeous.Paralels to Bleach have been drawn in terms of the art but I feel like it has a lot more similarity to Tokyo Ghoul. The ridiculously detailed character designs and the accentuating background lend a lot to the enjoyment of the series as a whole,As previously mentioned the manga isn't anything '"new" or "original" but it still managed to hook me and keep me interested.I found myself zoning out and losing track of time as I squealed like a fan-girl at the artwork. This was not something I saw myself reading at first but color me impressed. It's short has outstanding art and a flow to it that will end up dragging you by the tail if something along the lines of Bleach or Ao no excorcist fall under your preferences. In short this is definitely worth a read and it's a bloody shame that it got axed.
