Never before have I been so captivated by a story.
Both the anime and the manga are amazing, but I would say that this is miles above what the anime was able to achieve. This has set the bar so high that I'm actually a little worried that I won't be able to find something like this again.
Seeing each character grow and learn to know each other and, most importantly, themselves is a great sight. It doesn't contain any sort of over the top stereotyped characters or anything like that; the characters are actually... normal. That is what you want in this type of story, to
...
be able to relate to the story that is unfolding before you and understand what they're going through.
The artwork and the scenery are fantastic and really allows you to enjoy the small but wholesome moments and some dark and depressing ones too. I paused at some to fully admire it.
I didn't find a single character that I didn't like or hated, each one has their own problems and goals that it's hard to come to dislike them. Their problems aren't over the top either, they contain very normal and common problems that people run into.
My enjoyment is just off the charts, I HAD to pace myself with this and seeing it end is the definition of "bittersweet". I wish there was more. I don't have enough words for how much I love this, I honestly can't even think of a term that will accurately express my love for this.
Please give this a try, even if you may not like the Yuri genre.
This manga and the anime that was adapted is the reason why I love the Yuri genre.
Just an outstanding piece of art...

This is one of the prettiest anime I've ever watched in my life; I'm not exaggerating either. The story and the characters really moved me, and some parts made me cry. Just a wonderful, cohesive and well-made anime that is sure to survive the test of time. This deserves all the praise that anyone can muster. I applaud Kyoto Animation for making such a masterpiece that is sure to wow people over.
The transition from Violet being a literal soldier, no emotions at all or any sense of individuality to a human, able to understand other human emotions is truly a sight to behold. It also
...
shows that Violet changes with support from those around her, supported even by other people that served with her.
I pray that I never serve or fight in a full-scale war, seeing the various scenes of families waiting for their loved one to return is gutwrenching, to say the least.
Overall, this series accurately portrays a real sense of what war is like: the good, the bad, the ugly. It shows the families hugging their son and crying, while another family gets the news that their son didn't make it. And all the while we see how one of those soldiers that come back from battle, Violet, learns to adapt to society. And on that journey, we get to see how Violet helps others as well.

A Silent Voice is an amazing film. It's filled to the brim with a lot of emotions, both good and bad. It teaches so much about life, bullying and forgiveness.
What we can learn from it is that everything we do and say matters. I can't begin to fully tell you what you'll learn in Silent Voice.
I've noticed that there are some scenes where there is no music—just ambience. A distant train going past for example. Those things help to create more 'immersion' but also isolation in some parts of the film. Sure, sometimes music adds to the movie, but sometimes just ambience is
...
more than enough to convey the character's emotions or the isolation that they feel. That, combined with the amazing animation and art creates this film.
Overall, I found this to be an amazing movie!

TL;DR:
Just perfect.
Overall:
Just beautiful in all aspects. The romance and drama go hand in hand with each other but don't overstep their boundaries. The overall enjoyment was so good that I put it on hiatus for a bit so I don't binge it in a day like I normally do. The relationships and characters feel realistic and not overblown or exaggerated. Just a very cohesive anime that is just breathtaking.
Story:
With any other romance anime, they usually have the stereotypical "misunderstanding" or have an argument that is meaningless, but here it uses very little or even none of those stereotypical tropes. In fact, it's more of a
...
self-realization anime with romance attached to it.
Art:
Breathtaking visual effects and animation, some with even added flare. And removing eyes during intense moments is an exceptionally good touch. It just adds to the eeriness and to the tense atmosphere, almost creepy in a way.
Sound:
A very clever balance of music and sound effects (such as wind) to create more intimate moments but using music for more lighthearted moments. Adding reverb as well when slow-motion shots are happening are just music to my ears. The music did its job; nothing really special but nothing bad either.
Characters:
The characters are somewhat basic but are realistic and not overblown. They grow from that base and form a complex tree full of branches if you will. It doesn't use any cliches a stupid number of times. The characters have legitimate reasons for their actions and how they feel, and because of that, we can understand why they feel the way they do; even if it may sound somewhat weird at first.
Enjoyment:
Being my first Yuri, and being an amazing anime as well, I had to stop myself from binging the whole anime in an entire day. I really had to savour it before finishing it. My mind kept wandering to "What happens next?" and automatically clicking the next episode button without thinking "Hm, perhaps I should pace myself. ".
