Production company Shochiku opened an official website for a television anime adaptation of Koucha Agasawa's Seihantai na Kimi to Boku (You and I Are Polar Opposites) manga on Monday, revealing a commemorative illustration by the original creator (pictured above). The anime series is being produced by animation studio Lapin Track for a January 2026 airing.

Agasawa originally drew the romantic comedy manga on the Shounen Jump+ web magazine as a one-shot in January 2021 before beginning regular serialization in May 2022. The manga ended its over 3.5 year-run with 65 chapters on Monday. Shueisha published the seventh volume on August 2, with the eighth and final volume planned for a March 2023 release. Seihantai na Kimi to Boku has a cumulative 1.35 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Shueisha's Manga Plus platform began publishing the chapters in English in June 2022. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in October 2023 and published the third volume on November 5. The fourth volume will go on sale on February 4, 2025.

Seihantai na Kimi to Boku placed among the top ten titles in the male readers division in the 2023 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings and in the Best for Beginners category in MyAnimeList's 2024 edition of You Should Read This Manga. The manga was also nominated for the 16th and 17th Manga Taisho awards.

Synopsis
Next to Miyu Suzuki, a trendy and bubbly high school girl, sits Yuusuke Tani, a quiet and frank boy. Their interactions are brief, limited to Suzuki's unprompted random questions and Tani's succinct answers. Yet, beneath these simple exchanges, feelings of love are quietly blossoming.

Suzuki sees Tani for who he is: a straightforward boy who respects everyone equally, completely unconcerned about fitting in. Unlike Tani, she is too hung up on what everyone else thinks, desperate to keep her crush a secret. However, a slight misunderstanding leads to Suzuki confessing her feelings—and to her delight, Tani feels the same. Jittery with excitement, the young couple starts dating, embarking on a wonderful journey of friendship and love. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

so this is poor woman's 3d kanojo with caricatures as main characters, reading the synopsis gave me eye cancer.

Aaaaaaaa shut the front door! Even halfway through the manga and I am beyond excited for the anime. Suzuki has a fun personality but the beyond bashful moments and developments really brought her in-line with other series like “Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman” which up there for me.

@Shirayukin First chapter.

From the synopsis it seems like they got together as a couple early on? I'm interested.

@EcchiGodMamster Because it's LN. Its titles are created on the principle of “express briefly the main idea of the work in the title in order to immediately attract the target audience.

@kta_99 I could say "it's a high school rom-com, you could cut a lot," but that would be disrespectful to the fans. I've seen how even blatant cutting of unimportant scenes hurt the overall tone of the original manga.

@RobertBobert I've seen at least one time they were able to adapt an 8-volume manga into one season and have it work out fine. But whether it's 1 or 2 cours, I feel like they wouldn't have made the anime after the series was already complete if they didn't plan to adapt it fully.

Looks like another popular girl vs plain boi type of romcom. We kinda get a lot of those lately.

With their titles that sometimes rival isekai/fantasy lol

Will they be able to fit all 8 volumes into one anime? At least theoretically.

@Softhenic03 Never, because this type of fantasy is always aimed at introverted guys. Same thing with ikemen love interests in shoujo.

@Piromysl I really like the growth of gyaru anime. But I would like as many of them as possible to be more varied than the constant formula of "oh no, this girl is the complete opposite of me!"

When will these trendy and bubbly girls will start going after... popular and lively guys?

Dropped the manga very early on. Didn't dislike it but also felt like it wasn't bringing anything new and the artwork was also a turn off for me. Maybe I'll give the anime a go.
