The Disney Content Showcase 2024 event in Singapore announced a new anime adaptation of Tsukasa Hojo's Cat's Eye manga on Thursday, revealing a teaser promo and teaser visual (pictured). The anime will premiere exclusively on Disney+ in 2025.

Singer-songwriter Ado is covering the titular opening of the 1983 television anime by Anri as the theme song, previewed in the teaser promotional video.

The action comedy manga was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1981 to 1985 and collected into 18 volumes. Shueisha later republished a ten-volume collector's edition in 1994 and a paperback edition from 1995–1996. Tokuma Shoten reprinted a complete edition in 2005-2006. Cat's Eye has a cumulative 20 million of its compiled volumes in circulation.

Tokyo Movie Shinsha adapted the manga into a 73-episode television anime that aired from Summer 1983 to Summer 1985. The Lupin III vs. Cat's Eye (Lupin the 3rd vs Cat's Eye) crossover anime premiered exclusively on Amazon's Prime Video in January 2023, commemorating both the 50th anniversary of Lupin III and 40th anniversary of Cat's Eye anime series.

Monthly Comic Zenon ran a remake manga written by Sakura Nakameguro from October 2010 to January 2014, featuring illustrations by Shingo Asai. Coamix released the manga in eight volumes. The publisher also releases Hojo's original manga in English on the Manga Hot service.

Synopsis
Cat's Eye follows the adventures of the three Kisugi sisters—Hitomi, Rui, and Ai—who run a charming café by day but transform into a trio of master art thieves by night. Known as Cat's Eye, the sisters leave calling cards at their heist locations, taunting the authorities with their precision and skill. Their ultimate goal isn't wealth but to recover the artworks of their missing father, Heinz, a famed art collector whose collection was lost during the Nazi era.

As they evade capture, the stakes grow higher with Hitomi's romantic entanglement with Toshio, a determined police officer who is not only investigating the Cat's Eye case but also happens to be her unsuspecting fiancé. Blending thrilling heists, intricate family bonds, and a touch of romantic comedy, Cat's Eye masterfully weaves daring action with emotional stakes.

Love seeing users arguing about "censorship" for a series most of you will never watch. And since it is going to air on Disney+, let get more upset about the subject of "censorship" than usual....

Probably most of you haven't watched the old series (or even actually care about it), and even less read the actual manga. But hey.... oh no Disney+, lets rage...

Oh no it's Disney.

Well, I think they got Ado. But it's Disney, any effort they do would be outweighed by the fact that this is Disney.

FWIW, Ranma's censoring probably had nothing to do with Netflix. Heck, many Netflix originals feature outright nudity; the censorship was probably on the Japanese side.

@Diogo_Gomes_1995 But that doesn't have anything to do with Disney+. The City Hunter movies were also "censored" and they wasnt made for any platform; so the problem are the japanese studios itself. As you can see, Disney+ isn't the problem, and this it's something that can happen with any series in any platform

@aburame_ernesto More like: Have you even noticed the pattern that's going on with the remakes, lately?

If you've seen Ranma 1/2 remake that MAPPA has made, that show got censored compared to the 80s version and even the manga, itself. Although it is from Netflix's part, it doesn't still change the fact that the same thing that's happening to Ranma 1/2 is also going to happen to Cat's Eye. I'm very sure of it, because i've known about these garbage american corporations and their schemes of forcing Japanese studios to censor themselves for these so-called "wider audience."

Always excited for more old anime remake. Concerned cause you know but still hopeful.

@Diogo_Gomes_1995 Have you seen the anime they have in their catalog? They are far from being censored. Those are the facts; the other are just speculations

@aburame_ernesto

I hope this helps you.

@malvarez1 You're saying like Disney would never do wrong with Anime. And yet, look what happened with Tokyo Revengers when it got to later seasons. The hype got completely dead ever since Disney adquired the rights to it and did nothing about the show. Which is why nobody even bothered talking about it.

Plus, Disney themselves had promised that they are going to censor the shit out of anime for the sake of crying pussies that hate sex and violence.

People have been pointing out about Disney's schemes to ruin anime and it's why we hate this company with a burning passion.

@Diogo_Gomes_1995 I think you might be overestimating how much influence Disney has on the anime that stream on Disney + in Japan. They've aired a bunch of gory/sexy stuff with no censorship. Heck, the latest Bleach anime is more violent than the original.

Nov 21, 9:10 PM by malvarez1

No thanks I'll sooner give money to terrorist organizations then buy Disney+

Nov 21, 2:57 PM by yamiyugi101

So who's gonna do it? TMS who did the original and crossed them over with Lupin III or Sunrise who adapted Hojo's other manga City Hunter and crossed them over? Some other studio?

Anyway, get this viral because heaven knows Disney+ won't do it themselves.

Nov 21, 1:54 PM by Fortress_Maximus

@Diogo_Gomes_1995 Since when Disney+ was censoring anime???

Nov 21, 1:13 PM by aburame_ernesto

@ChrisTries You literally have that shitty ass Euphonium 3 anime in your favorites. Why getting so pissy wissy mad at me for speaking the truth about Disney and their garbage? Is it because you're an corpo's bootlicker and can't accept the fact that anything that Disney touches is guaranteed to be shit?

Nov 21, 9:41 AM by Diogo_Gomes_1995

Teaser avoiding to show any character movement is pretty suspicious if it's really a CGI anime. It works well for a visualizer but there are hardly any CGI anime that don't make you regret the gift of sight. Disney having a fecal touch - turning everything it touches into shit - is another matter.

@DatRandomDude and black rock shooter dawn fall its the opposite of censorship or woke

Nov 21, 8:33 AM by Softhenic03
