Shinohara began serializing the supernatural comedy manga in Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2021. Shueisha published the 17th volume on July 4, with the 18th volume planned for a September 4 release.

VIZ Media simulpublishes the manga in English on its Shounen Jump website and released the tenth volume digitally on May 28, with the 11th volume scheduled to be released on August 27. Shueisha's Manga Plus website also simulpublishes the manga in English.

Synopsis
Nico Wakatsuki has finished her six years of witch training and is moving back to town by herself. As a new witch, she must choose a familiar to accompany her. However, unlike the other witches, she wishes to pick a non-animal familiar. There's no better companion than Morihito "Moi" Otogi—her childhood friend who happens to be an ogre. Morihito is vehemently opposed to being her servant, but he reluctantly accepts his fate after learning that a curse would revert him into a strange cow-tiger hybrid were he to disobey a witch's order.

Due to Morihito's father leaving for a business trip and Nico's mother remaining behind in the Witches' Holy Land, the two teens find themselves living together under the same roof. While Nico is ecstatic to be living with her crush, Morihito finds that her magical antics and overall clumsiness create more problems than solutions. With a prophesied disaster to befall Nico within the year, Morihito must do everything he can to protect her as her bodyguard while also upholding his duties as her familiar. @MegamiRem If the author's past work is any indication, I was expecting to see a battle shonen with a light plot.

@RobertBobert Yuri I'm not sure but the other two yeah but not constantly iirc. I might get back to the manga soon, I'll let you knw when I do.

I preferred SKET Dance over Kanata no Astra so I'm definitely looking forward to this one!

@wildhood lol as if the manga rankings on MAL have any meaning or correlation with actual quality, not even the popularity rankings have any accuracy with real life.

I was just saying we needed more magical girl. Not quite sure though, since it seems to be more like whatever this is

@wildhood The author of this manga has two huge blockbusters with adaptations behind him.

Aug 18, 2024 1:06 PM by RobertBobert

Manga currently ranks #9393 on MAL. Yeah, gonna keep my expectations low for this one.

Looks amazing! As always I hope for 20+ episodes!

It looks very solid from an animation point of view and we have a capable director. Biburi Animation is a sure bet today. Can't wait to see it! It looks super fun too!

@nirererin

nope, zero harem stuff, at the very least from what i've read of it which is like the first 30+ chapters

thnx, I'm gonna watch it :)

Aug 18, 2024 10:18 AM by nirererin

Looks good but is it a harem like fan service stuff...

Aug 18, 2024 9:14 AM by nirererin

@MegamiRem Does it also have yuri, constant action and large doses of fan service?

Aug 18, 2024 9:07 AM by RobertBobert

Funny, I imagined Ishikawa and Suzuki's voices while reading the manga, except Ishikawa as Moi and Suzuki as Keigo. But they all sound good in the PV.

On a side note, hopefully the anime encourages Viz to release the manga physically.

@RobertBobert I have some unfortunate news for you then.

Aug 18, 2024 8:53 AM by MegamiRem

The last I read this was in late 2022 iirc around chapter 50-60. Just stopped cause was getting tired of reading too much text and there was a new love rival too? Anyway was a fun manga and I should get back to this tbh, nows a good time with the anime coming.

Aug 18, 2024 8:52 AM by MegamiRem

Someone decided to make a remake of Witch Craft Works, but without the yuri, constant action and heavy doses of fanservice?
