The official website of the Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) anime series announced a compilation movie for Shingeki no Kyojin: The Final Season - Kanketsu-hen (Attack on Titan: Final Season - The Final Chapters) on Saturday. The movie, titled Shingeki no Kyojin: Kanketsu-hen - The Last Attack (Attack on Titan the Movie: The Last Attack), will open in theaters in Japan on November 8.

The 145-minute movie will reconstruct the two-part television special with polished visuals and 5.1 surround sound. Linked Horizon's "Nisennen... Moshiku wa... Nimannengo no Kimi e...," the ending theme of the special's second part, will be used as the theme song.

The core staff from the television special are returning for the compilation movie at MAPPA, including director Yuuichirou Hayashi, series composer Hiroshi Seko, character designer Tomohiro Kishi, and music composers Kohta Yamamoto and Hiroyuki Sawano. Pony Canyon is distributing the movie.

In a comment, director Yuuichirou Hayashi explained that the story was originally designed to be viewed as a single movie, and being able to show it in a theater—a place he believes offers the best experience—feels like a dream come true. Hayashi encourages fans to feel the "rumbling" by watching it on the big screen.

Kanketsu-hen (The Final Chapters) aired as a two-episode television special on March 4 and November 5 last year, adapting volumes 32–34 of Hajime Isayama's original manga. Crunchyroll streamed the episodes with multiple subtitles and dubbed versions.

I mean say what you will, but if they show it in US theaters, I'll go see it. The theater experience alone would be nice.

@ryzxgum

One change I expect to see is the fixing of Rico’s hair colour to match the change they made in the blu-ray version (that was incorrect in the original release)

My guess is that they’re gonna add all of the blu-ray edits they made, which I will say is probably a good thing. Other than that I doubt there will be anything new.

why not make movies for final season too at this point, s1-3 got recaps so I guess all seasons having one would look cool.
But I smell something will happen.

@RobbiRobb Such thought also came across my mind. If two special episodes are merged into one movie which is eligible to have its own entry in the anime database, then why some entries of compilation movies, in example Kimetsu no Yaiba ones (To the Swordsmith Village; To the Hashira Training), can't be in the database? They used to have their own entry which were deleted some time later, due to those movies having not enough original content and serving just certain episodes aired one after another.

If slightly upgraded visuals and removing credits in-between episodes is enough for a separate entry, then it can be a start of another discussion regarding the anime database's inconsistency. After all, there was relatively high number of entries that got rejected or removed in the past due to the reasons that seem not to apply to that new Attack on Titan movie.

I think we will have to wait until the movie is released to see whether it can be a separate entry or not. However, judging from its announcement, it's not hard to imagine it being basically just two episodes merged with each other, without credits in-between them (that's my hunch, anyway), and cosmetic audiovisual modifications that are pretty much equal to the regular BD release treatment.

Dunno, it feels bizarre a little. I am a huge AoT fan, but I'm not blinded by my personal preferences.

Dude can't rest in peace even after becoming a pigeon

At 145 minutes this is literally the same length as the two episodes... are we sure this can be classified as a compilation and not just a rescreening? Polished visuals and 5.1 also just sounds like the typical BD release... Really not looking forward to what is essentially a rewatch...

Good idea. Those two special episodes really felt like two minimovies that would have been great if merged together into one feature-length movie. I'd love to see it at the cinema, but I doubt it will be aired in my country. Still, I'm happy for people who will watch it. It's surely gonna be a grand experience to watch this brilliant finale as one movie on a big screen.

Unless they announce a sequel after the credits, I don't care.

Amazes me how studios can't let some titles rest in peace, jeez.
