Hidden gems and "out of the radar" manga and manhwa that you probably haven´t heard of if you are new to the medium. Overlooked works. Good for the ones who want to get deeper and already tried the classics, or simply want to scratch the bottom of the barrel.

Criteria:

1. Underexposed and/or underrated works ranked below #2000 in terms of popularity.
2. Only one work per artist. Authors can be repeated, though.
3. No one-shots.
4. Complete scanlations (english)
5. Award-winning works included.
6. Manga from the 100 best-selling are not elegible.

What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.

Yo besties, I've been having a challenge of reading short manga.
so I thought of creating interest stacks for this challenge.
Some of the manga I've listed in the challenge aren't in MAL so I will list them in the description.
Each set (currently there are 15, and it continues) has 49 entries, and the manga vary in genres and popularity.
All of the manga are 1-5 volumes long, and I would love to see other people participating in this challenge!

This is a stack about the subgenre of yuri that focuses on an older woman or girl who are either in a relationship or in love with a girl who is younger or much younger than them. (lolicon themes)

Its self-explanatory. (Also may contain NSFW themes)

This stack is about age gap romance manga, specifically yuri series. One that happens to be a huge favorite of mine personally, but this is up for you to decide. Some stories can be dark and other stories can be super bright cute and wholesome.

The genre is self-explanatory, and the age gap genre definitely can either be student x teacher, OL x school girl/college student, etc etc.

There are some NSFW themes to some of these, and I will mark them as such if they are especially NSFW (usually most of them are)

Manga in which the main female character has another female character as her love interest. The dynamic between them is unhinged, toxic, or controversial. It contains lolicon, violence, abuse, stalking, incest, and other sensitive themes. The genres are diverse: comedy, slice of life, drama, fantasy, horror, supernatural, and more.

Onee loli! Romantic relationships between older and younger girls where they don't get too sexually explicit on screen.

Compilation of manga with a significant relationship between older and younger characters in a way that is /not necessarily romantic or sexual/. Some of these will be outright dating, some will be ambiguous, and some will have no indication of romance or sex at all no matter how you stretch it. The common thread is that the relationship between the characters of different ages is very significant whether to them or to the plot. There's no theme as to plot so some are purely fluffy, some are angsty or violent and a few are sexually explicit.

Manga with child characters of elementary or middle school age. Lots but not all entries have lolisho content so be warned

Side profiles depicted within film posters often evoke a sense of loneliness, introspection, or mystery. The themes associated with such designs can vary widely, so please assume these are psychological or drama based for potential interpretations. Because a lot of these are Shoujo and Josei, existential themes might be touched upon, sexual assault being one of them; this is a reminded of importance to research trigger warnings in art.

Criteria for this list:
• No sequel series.
• Full-body and portrait shots are excluded from this list.
• Likewise, diagonal shots (Kasane) are excluded.
• Covers must depict multiple character's from the Shoulders up (ex. Bus Hashiru)
• Harsh side profile, no "SHAFT tilting" towards the viewer (ex. Girl May Kill).
