Let me start by saying I wouldn't have read this if it wasn't for my yearning to not base my reading on preference, and instead read manga completely at random. I went on a manga site, and using a random number generator, I picked this story out of all of them I could have chosen (it kinda feels, in a way, that it was meant to be for me to read it heheheh)
At first I thought that this was going to be another one of those magical girl sweet, surface level story, and that all it would be was something fun to read and nothing
...
more. BUT. It took a turn I really didn't expect. While it was a magical girl manga still, it also had some mild gore and some pretty intense angst. I teared up! (Keep in mind, I totally forgot to look at the genre before reading)
The characters, in my opinion, all develop in a satisfying way, no matter how small that development might be. Elie, the main protagonist, starts out as a carefree girl who is kind of a menace even if she has good intentions. Later down the line, she learns some things about herself, and while up against her inner and outer struggles, she becomes a very trusting and understanding person. Some characters had "development" that was just a flip-of-a-switch moment. The sword guy (who's name I can't really remember... but my brain is telling me it's Blade though I don't feel like checking) is just this mean, tall, ... sword guy who is the type of character to bump into the protag and say "get out of my way" and "apologize when you bump into someone" (even though he bumped into them,,). Pretty much immediately he loses that entire persona and never shows it again. Kind of a waste if you ask me.
Overall, I'd say that this is a good read! I've never even heard of the game this is based off of, if that says anything. Ciao.
