We have MC1 who is in love with his best friend, MC2. Due to certain reasons/confusion they cannot be together. Seeing this, MC3 swoops in, confesses his love to MC1...... and by the end of both manga, you have yourself rooting the most for poor MC3

What do you do when you have an unrequited love for your best friend of years? Well, you torment yourself over it till you realize that another friend of yours wants to be your lover. This is the basic premise of both these manga, but while Calorie is cliche and slightly emotional, Hydra shines with its unusual plot development and unique characters

Well written angsty love triangles where the uke is in a relationship with a man he loves, but due to certain circumstances, is made to face someone from his past. The characters are well written and situations/circumstances are realistic, without being cliche or melodramatic.

Written by the same mangaka, both these manga deal with love triangles that are dealt with in a realistic and mature manner.

Both are very well written and character driven BL manga that focuses on the lives and emotional turbulences in the lives of 3 young boys. And yes, both feature love triangles.

Similar plots: Uke loves seme, who rejects his advances (despite having feelings for him). Uke then finds solace in the arms of another guy who has genuine feelings for him, but expectedly, the uke and seme end up being together with each other.

Gives the same vibe, kind of bittersweet. Lovers that can't reach each other. If you liked one will surely like the other. And both belong to long series with multiple couples.

Apart from the general feel and tone of the story, both BL manga contain seemingly simple details that work to give the story an incredibly realistic feel.

It keeps the slice of life bit very closely along with struggles the characters have to face as gay men. It's very intense and deals with the possible contraction of AIDs, not for the week hearted (you may want to bring a box of tissue).

Both of these BL manga can be described as realistic, emotional and relatable. Not to mention they're both wonderful reads.

A character has a painful longing for a third person in both of these lovely, emotive BL titles.

Boys love, miscommunications, delinquent acts, and over the top slice-of-life drama. Not only that, but the main guy refuses to acknowledge and love himself. They're also about how insecurities, distance, and problems grow over time (just like the Hydra, a monster that would double itself when killed). Both have an almost equal cast of female/male characters, and one event concerning a certain girl in both series kinda starts the downfall of everything.

When I was reading Kasa no Shita, the image of bitter-sweet, triangle love between Hitomi, Ryuu and Hikaru from Hydra/Rules pooped up in my head right away. Both mangas give similar feeling of mixed emotions, strongly affecting its readers, making us love and hate certain characters and feel strong connection with them. The storytelling is also quite similar, drama and amazing art mixed up together. One of characters notice feelings the other two have for each other in both mangas and he's tring to go between them, snatching one for himself. Both mangas are going to break your heart in some moments, so better brace yourself.
