However, they face many obstacles and starts off as an underdog against their adversaries. With time and hard work, they work their way up the ladder and become stronger each chapter. Hajime no Ippo is a very character driven story with its unique ability to tell stories inside the ring. Both series takes on a serious and perhaps violent approach at their sport. The main male protagonist has more of an antihero role and tries to make their dream into a reality. Throughout the story, they run into dangerous adversaries that truly tests their abilities to the limit. Rikudou is also known for its darker themes that includes death. Both series has dynamic realism when it comes to the fighting tactics and mechanics of their competitive nature.

Buyuden and Rikudou explores a journey - a guy who steps into the ring and breaks into the boxing realm with their will. Indeed, both series focuses on a lot on boxing and the nature of what fighting is like. Throughout both series, we see how they tackle hardships both in and outside the ring. While both series has a lot of character dynamics, their atmospheric setting contrasts somewhat. Buyuden has more of a shounen like style including the lighthearted comedy while Rikudou mostly retains a mature way of telling its story.

I'm surprised no one recommended this yet, both badass MC, with really dark past, Rikudou is more focused on boxing, if you could handle dark themes like Shamo, then give this a try

A uncommonly grueling told story from both manga's in pertaining to the main characters life. Both male leads go through a number of grave cause and effect conditions that's brought about from their own actions putting them in dreadful, isolated situations. The two male protagonists find a ray of light in the form of sports which helps them put their past aside.
