Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022.

The goal of the club was to come up with a list of highly recommended quality shows and manga that are exemplary either within its genre or universally. A manga needed a 70% approval rate in our voting to get on the relation list. The following manga are all part of said list.
Do note that our club's main focus always was anime, our club's readership was relatively low which results in a lot of manga not being able to reach enough votes to get on the relation list despite having a 70% or higher approval rate.

The Japan Media Arts Festival is an annual festival held since 1997 by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs. The festival begins with an open competition and culminates with the awarding of several prizes and an exhibition.

Romance manga (some manhua/manhwa) set in historical settings. Some are solely focused on the romance while others have romance as a sub-genre.

- No Fully Gag or iyashikei Manga
- I Will Allow a few others of those series if there is dramatic scenes in them even if its sparse.
- There can be male protagonists in the series, but at least 75% of the manga has to revolve around the Female Lead.
- I Will also not include SOME harem/romance manga, but only some, a bit abitary but again dont wanna conflate the list
- I May count genderbent manga

(Mainly) Shoujo manga featuring characters who are royalty or filthy rich

*often times it's the love interest who is the royal/rich character

Forbidden love manga featuring couples from opposing/enemy factions.

**This stack DOES NOT primarily focus on student/teacher, brother/sister, yaoi/yuri, or age-gap relationships. There may be some overlap, but it's primarily forbidden love relationships due to being in opposing factions, or having certain life circumstances.

Must Have:
1. Romance as one of the primary focuses (no romantic subplots/romantic subtext only)
2. Set in a historical era or a world that resembles one
3. Be good

Titles that narrate feelings through touch and gestures.

Must Haves:
1. Forbidden Love from/with: Opposing factions, age-gap, student/teacher, princess/peasant, family, yaoi/yuri, and other variations of the sort.
2. Romance is one of the primary focuses of manga
3. Be good!

Features a rich x poor relationship. This may include sex for money turned into a relationship, Daddy Long legs, royalty, boss x subordinate, etc.

What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.

Manga depicting the daily life/religion/historical events/just culture overall of different parts of the world.

Doesn't include Japanese culture since most of the manga have a Japanese setting anyway.

Doesn't include manga with settings older than the 10th century. So no Ancient Greece or Roman Empire, for example.

Manga set largely outside East Asia, but on Earth.

This list is a social experiment, a study about the manga vs the reader.
What you gonna feel while reading each manga in this list may be either a unique great or devastating for your mental sanity.
