Both are mysteries set in 1950s Japan. Both have a generally unsettling feeling that is accentuated by the setting. Both feature publishing houses, bizarre experiments, and wild rumors.

While their premises are entirely different, what binds both these mystery-thrillers together is how both force you to push your boundaries. While reading them, you begin to wonder - is this science? Is this something supernatural? Is it a mixture of both? And it's only towards the end of both that you get your answers.

Ubume no natsu is a psychological mystery. Homunculus is something similar, but longer. Both are mindfuck! And the peace you feel at the end when everything makes sense.......amazing.

Different genres, but with a similar feeling. Mysteries that span decades, and huge twists in almost every chapter. Both masterpieces.
