This is a one shot, meaning it's a very short manga (a total of 8 chapters, roughly 30-40 pages per chapter). If you’re hoping for something long running, turn away now.

PLOT (5/10—just average)

The plot is fairly simple and, to be frank, completely predictable. It’s pretty much all the same romance troupes and clichés which have already been played a million times over in shojo. Second year Nayu falls for her childhood friend Oumi (one year younger than her). She realizes her feelings for Oumi approximately when Oumi tells her he has a crush on a girl in school. Feeling defeated before even getting to ... confess her feelings, Nayu becomes sad and eventually confesses to Oumi as well. This leads to our classic love triangle, which is pretty much the backbone of the entire manga. Later on, Oumi begins to question if he likes Nayu when another second year boy in her class shows an interest in her. In the end, it dwindles down to “who will Nayu choose?”

ART (7/10—good art, nothing over the top amazing)

There isn’t much to say about the art. I liked it overall and it looked nice. However, there weren’t any particular scenes which felt exceptionally well-drawn or impactful emotionally. I was sorta like “it’s nice but meh” the entire time.

CHARACTERS (4/10—decently repetitive)

The problem with the characters wasn’t necessarily that they were bad. It was their lack of impact. They felt 2-dimensional, I never felt emotionally attached, and there wasn’t anything particularly unique or memorable about them either. Normally I’d give it a 5/10 (average) but I actually found Oumi’s character and his actions to be displeasing. It just didn’t feel like his feelings for Nayu were genuine and it came off as forced.

ENJOYMENT (4/10—decent one shot)

I thought the story was enjoyable enough to want to finish but if you’ve read enough shojo there isn’t anything here which will wow you. It’s really just a small manga to kill time if you’re bored and have nothing better to do. Once again, I deducted a point because Oumi’s character came off as semi-annoying near the end, which took away from my enjoyment.

OVERALL SCORE: 5/10—simply average

RECOMMENDATION (yes/no): If you have time to kill and you don’t mind repeating classic shojo clichés then this is a decent one shot to try out. If you’re looking for a GOOD romance to get into, something that will leave you truly fulfilled, then look elsewhere.

Mediocre, but cute.

The premise is quite interesting - I don´t read many mangas with ML as childhood friends. But with word interesting this is how far it gets.
I think that the length didn´t do the story any good - since the main characters undergo some changes regarding their feelings, from chapter to chapter, it feels unnatural.
The art is quite mediocre, but there were some scenes, where the mangaka showed off her abilities. Overall this was okay for a quick read, but I don´t plan on rereading it at all.
I recommend it to those who are emotionally drained from other psychological/drama mangas and need something ... to turn their mind off to.

Childhood Friends. The other one falls for someone else while the other one gets left behind. In the end, they end up into lovers after realizing they love each other. This kind of set up is cliche and we already read, watch or even see it a lot of times. Is there a unspoken rule that childhood friends should be together? Isn't it more interesting if someone gets taken away by an outsider because she is being taken forgranted?

Interesting characters in a short story really come out once in a blue moon. The characters action are kind of predictable, as well as the story itself. The momentum where one character should have make it exciting slips away, it's really a waste.

ART: 7

The making of characters is not that refined, it somewhat gives off a more realistic scenarios. Though there are times that it is not polish like it feels it was rushed, the expressions of the character are cool. Just quite confused but the secondary character's drawing is much more detailed than the main one's.

ENJOYMENT: 8

The story is cliche, yes. It will make you think that I've already saw that scene too many times. It's not new, it's too predictable. But the moment you are reading it, where you are being taken away on the story. You will simply just enjoy it.

ENDING: 7

I've already saw it coming. I know who ends up who. I just hope the mangaka creates a continuation of it. The extra chapter where the secondary character confidently said that the girl will be his one day is interesting and it will really make the story more exciting.

If you don’t mind how predictable it can be, it’s probably like the other generic shoujo you’ve read if you’ve read others. The most obvious shipping from the start will be there in the end and others might form based on who’s left over. I think what’s a little different about this manga, though, is the whole childhood friend relationship. Most of the time when a shoujo manga includes a childhood friend, he/she isn’t there in the beginning and comes in as almost an afterthought on the mangaka’s part. In other words, he/she isn’t taken seriously as a suitor and is only inserted for some ... extra drama.

┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ Oumi and Nayu, though, are the stars of this manga. Yes, it’s quite obvious how things will turn out for them in the end, but little by little they transform their childhood thoughts of each other into more mature ones. It’s evident that even though they still have that childhood mindset from long ago, they’re capable of considering each other in a different light. The fact that it’s a ten chapter manga lets​​​ you know that stuff is going to happen and it won’t be two clueless idiots fumbling around for too long understanding the others’ feelings.

I guess the downside to this manga would be some of the secondary characters. Like in other shoujo, a few of them you can tell won’t be that important to the story. They’re there to stir up some two-second drama and that’s that. Some of them make bigger impacts than others and might even make a good love triangle that will make you question which ship is supposed to sail.

┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ ┈ What I liked most about this manga was the artwork. It is reminiscent of other shoujo but feels a little lighter and fresher. It isn’t as light as stuff like in “Hirunaka no Ryuusei,” but the water color texture in the colored images make it look very young and innocent. (True, this manga does exude youth and innocence.) I can’t say the big-eyed girls and handsome boys are any different from other shoujo, though.

Should you read this?
If you’re a sucker for shoujo, go for it. Otherwise, it’s a fuzzy little read that won’t impact you very much except give your heart a little bit of “aww.” It was a refreshing read, though, for some uplifting romance.
