I would have rated this series higher, but the male lead is frustrating. It is understandable that he is focus on basketball, but the female leads confuses to him and he does not give her an answer. It seems like he likes her, because he seems to be slightly jealous when another guy comes into the picture. It seems it will turn out into another "I like my toy, but do not play with it, until someone else starts playing with it," childish possession.

As for the female lead, she is great. She is usually positive, straightforward and does almost everything 100%. ... I see how she might come off as annoying and stalkerish, but she is willing to give the person she likes her all. The female lead deserves someone that will not lead her on, she deserves better than the male lead.

Note: I usually side with the male leads, which shows how frustrating I find the male lead.

(Excuse my English) I really did enjoy this manga. At first I thought it was about a girl who builds a friendship with the whole basketball team but I then I figure out that's not the point of the story which I kinda wish it was but then I started reading more of it and I liked where the story was going. It's kinda what I expected but expect it includes romance which I also enjoy. I think in the middle of chapter three was when the story started getting interesting for me. I enjoy seeing Sonokawa relationship with Akkey how it will work out. ... The development is kinda slow but it's not to fast either. I hope it's getting somewhere soon before something or someone gets in the way.

When I first started reading this manga two years ago, I dropped it on the 9th chapter ( I don't remember why tho) But I finally finished it now


FIRST THINGS FIRST
Let me talk about AKI. aki at first didn't really care about anything, as log as there's food, he's good to go. He was completely oblivious to the FL's feelings for him. To me, he is a really BORING character as the main lead, to the point where you'll really stop caring about him the more you read the story and it really sucks because he didn't really put a lot of effort in their ... love story with the female lead. He's kinda like Kuroko in Kuroko no Basuke... The author also gave him fewer scenes on the earlier chapters that's why there was no character development whatsoever from the 1-40th chapter. That's why,,, less scenes, no efforts whatsoever, jist keeping quiet to himself, I think that made me want to not make him the main lead because he's just like air.

ON THE OTHER HAND,
TOBA YUUMA kun/ the other guy that likes the girl,, he had more character development with the female lead, he also had more scenes with the female lead, at first he just wanted to support her from the sidelines when the girl had a huge crush on Aki, he gave her all sorts of advice but at the same time he was inlove with the girl, he comforted her everytime she was sad, he was always there for her, he has great observational skills and could easily tell what the girl was thinking. During the time when the Female MC was a mess, he finally started to move, he started to confess his feelings and stuff, he really wanted to support her and be with her. He even told her that she could use him as much as she wants because he is hers and stuff.. it made my heart goo doki doki THE AUTHOR MADE HIM THE PERFECT BOYFRIEND MATERIAL and he just loves the female MC soo much. It's a shame that the author just made him a supporting character.

The female MC, even if she spent a lot of time with Toba ( and also Aki was doing something else and didn't even show up a lot and made no progress) she still loved Aki a lot, she was straightforward in rejecting Toba tho, but it was really a shame since Toba was the perfect guy,

ANYWAY, the author made the supporting male character (Toba) soooo LOVABLE that you'll just think " Oh wait.... I don't think the male mc is worthy of female mc, Toba kun is better with her" and you'll get hurt because this manga wasn't made for them.

So I think what the author did to Toba was really unfair, he should've had a happy ending, but he was really sad in the end, Unrequited love hurts. But I think The Female mc didn't deserve Toba anyway since she couldn't even see that Toba was there for her everytime, she couldn't even see that there was always someone by her side whenever she was hurt by Aki or was feeling down. Toba deserved more than this and it really bummed me out that he was a Supporting character.

That's why I really think that it's the author's fault for making the Supporting male soo lovable that you'll end up rooting for him, and the main lead such a boring character . You'll definitely be heart broken for Toba kun in this manga .

Anyway, I've seen a lot of people drop this manga because the female character rejected Toba kun .

Review written after chapter 20. Minor spoilers.

This has been one of my favourite romance manga ever since I've started it. I think the characters are really likeable, and feel pretty real to me. The side characters are interesting too, but they don't get much focus until they're needed for the story.

I think a male main character like Aki is a breath of fresh air compared to the usual main love interest in many shoujo manga. His defining trait isn't his good looks, which is good. After the first chapter or so, it's not often mentioned how good looking he is, so I don't feel as ... if the MC likes him for his looks only, but rather his personality, which is good! He's also not the typical popular boy or bad boy character, and his niceness feels refreshing. He can't be expected to go around saying stuff that makes people swoon, but he makes up for it by being awkwardly cute! The only thing I see people not liking about him is that he's really reserved and doesn't express his inner feelings much (he's not the typical emotionless guy though), so you shouldn't really expect him to say anything much to move the budding relationship forward.

The female lead is also a good character. She's a hardworking, nice girl, as many female leads tend to be, but she feels more of a real character to me. She's someone I can really cheer for, and her personality(and her many nice hairstyles!) is cute and likeable. She's cheerful in a way that's fun to watch.

The relationship progresses at a good pace in my opinion, though some others might say it's too slow for their liking. The good thing is that whenever I think huge obstacles are going to pop out, they don't usually reset the relationship progress back to zero (which happens a lot in some manga I've read, it's really frustrating!). If you go in not expecting things to progress quickly, I think you'll enjoy the character interactions and slow progression.

I think the best thing about this story is that I hardly feel annoyed when reading it. There aren't many events that cause me to bang my head on the wall and scream "that's too much of a coincidence to be true!" And whenever I expect the story to proceed down an annoying path, it's usually not as bad as I think, since the storm blows over quickly. The characters do do things that cause the relationship to not progress as fast as it could, but it never feels like forced storytelling to drag out the story, but rather the characters are just being themselves. The caring, reasonable main characters make it a good read.

And of course, I believe the art is really pretty, so no complaints there!

Overall, I cannot recommend this enough. Just make sure you don't start reading expecting too much, and just enjoy the things as they come. Expectations make you impatient and enjoy the story less!

I really really do want to love this manga but there's just too many issue with the writing of the character for me. I like the fact that the author was trying to create a MC guy with a very kind personality but when he only has that trait.. it make things kinda bland.

Misunderstandings are good when written well as it drives the plot forward but when its done in a way that is very superficial, it is nothing more than a cause of frustration. In other words, the conflict here can pretty much be solved in a snap of a finger.

The plus point of ... this manga by far is the 2nd lead guy. A very well written character that is interesting to read from the get go. You don't really need to ship him with the MC girl but we got to admit that undoubtedly, he is the most intriguing part of the story. (I ship him tho with the lead MC girl). He is perceptive, sensitive and has the balls to call out people. (A perfect second lead.. or main lead perhaps??? )

Overall, if you're looking for a superrrrrrr light romance then this might be for you. Altho to be honest, if the story took place in middle school instead of high school, things and how they act will be pretty much more acceptable.
