Haikyuu!! addpermalink

Haikyuu!! presents the world of male volleyball players while Beniiro Hero centers about girls volleyball. The main characters in both manga are energetic and determined. And even thou one is a shojo and one is a shounen, both have a very good plot and the focus is on volleyball.

After reading Crimson Hero, I felt like Chihayafuru was based off it or heavily inspired by it.

Similarities:
- Very similar art style (no seriously, they are!)
- Main female lead are very similar in personality and looks. They're both passionate, hard working, un-girly and quite oblivious, one track minded
- One of the main males in Crimson Hero is exactly like Taichi from Chihayafuru and both suffer from "unrequited love" although it's ambiguous in Chihayafuru because it hasn't ended yet
- Love triangle also similar. Guy who liked her since childhood loves the main female, main female loves another guy who inspires her.
- Sports! They're executed in the same fashion.

Differences:
- Chihayafuru is more elegant, less drama-filled (because it's a Josei)
- In Chihayafuru, their childhood plays a large part when they grow up
- Crimson Hero has a lot more romance
- Nobara > Chihaya in terms of character development and she's less oblivious
- There is no character similar to Tomoyo in Chihayafuru, unless we count Sumire read more

When I first read Beniiro Hero, I thought to myself, wow, have I read this kind of manga before? Then I realised it was the actual themes which brought me to attention that yes, it was indeed Chihayafuru.

Both these mangas involve a female main character, in whom aspires to be the best of her chosen sport. These themes have a general similarity to them, with each female having a striding "I will not give in!" personality. It adds to the character development, and enhances to make even small competitions really intense. You just can't stop reading!
Beniiro Hero and Chihayafuru both have a love triangle in them, with the romance in Chihayafuru more subtle than the romance in Beniiro.
(There also need to be 4 billion years for each competition. I mean, Chihayafuru could easily make it to 200 chapters.)
(And Taichi is beautiful ok I'm done)

In short, both mangas are a must read if you've liked either one. (: read more

Both are sport-y shoujo manga that have a leading female character falling in love with the one person that they don't want to be with, but end up adoring anyways. Good amounts of humor and light-angst in both.

Both are about girls who want to enter a big competition very badly,and although they aren't skilled enough at first, it turns out that they have amazing hidden talents. They also inspire everyone that they meet along the way.
One is sports, one is cooking.

The heroine in both is emotionally strong, initially gets rejected by the one that they love but develops and gets strong because of it, and pursues something that they are both passionate about and extremely talented at. In Beniiro Hero the main character has a natural talent for volleyball, and in Skip Beat she has a natural talent for acting. This results in other characters having reactions such as:
-"What... how is that rookie doing something so skilled when they don't have any experience..!!"
-"That girl is... scary...!"
-"Has she given up?" "No, look!" "*Gasp* her aura has completely changed..!!"
Also in both series the heroine has extreme amounts of family drama, since their mother wants to force them into a family business kind of thing, and they completely disapprove of the way that the heroine has grown up.
The love interest(s) of the heroine have similar talents and interests to her, and both mangas use multiple perspectives to explain what is going on (not only from the point of view of the main characters, but minor characters as well.)

In both manga passion from girl and a guy is sport. In Himitsu and Beniiro girls are strong ans stubborn - hate to lose and give their everything in the matches. The guys also will do everything to win. From the start they don't really like each other, always teasing and try out who is better - but later on they fall in love.

Both have the main girl having to live with other guys. They both include sports (one's volleyball, one's high jump and other stuff). They both are kind of tomboys but in the end the guy they like eventually falls for them. Hana kimi's more romance and crimsom hero's more sports, but they have a bit of each other too...

Both of these share the sports element CH (volleyball) BnG (basketball). Also, there is the similar element of the new transfer girl staying at an all boys dorm and having to put up with their wildness.
