There is only one word that describes this manga - tension. If you liked "Death Note" and "Spiral", you will love "Bloody Monday", it exudes the same feeling of mental chess, intrigue, and continuous feeling of tension. Death lurks in every corner, there is no feeling of assurance that we get from other mangas where you are confident that the main characters typically do not die - not an assumption you can make with this one. The story twists, turns, thrills, and surprises.

Bloody Monday tried to be a suspense-thriller anime which involves a lot of "black hat hacking". Although they try very hard to use accurate terms, anything involving computer crimes tends to be misunderstood by traditional storytellers, and that is still the case here.

Lots of things are almost accurate, and for that reason, I got sort of annoyed with the series.

Another annoying thing was that the "experts" often make the same novice mistakes, over and over again. This might be accurate if they were run of the mill government workers, but, they're supposed to be elite, highly trained specialists.

Bloody Monday is a shounen mistery crap manga. And maybe a rip-off of 20th Century Boys.

So, there's this chick who works for a secret terrorist organization and she spread a deadly virus in Russia that apparently drains the blood out of a person. Hence the name Bloody Sunday (or maybe the author just likes U2, who knows.)

The main character, Fujimaru Takagi is a high-schooler with a great secret (of course). He is the person behind the internet alias 'Falcon', the greatest hacker in the world! And he actually hacked into a porn website when he was 12, so he's like, totally awesome...

Well ,its been 5 years since I finished the epic showdown of mind games between l and kira. And I am really bored with those lame tricks that new “deathnote wannabe” mangas are trying to pull off…..speaking truthfully while geas was great but to me it fell short while comparing to deathnote according to those beautifull mind chess between two intellectuals .Keeping aside the adventurous types like one piece and naruto , my expectation from short spanned thriller animes or mangas are actually how much intellectual property is included in the show without being lame on the context and concept .

The following will be a review of Bloody Monday and its 2 sequels, I'll try my best not to include any spoilers.

For awhile now I've been slowly drifting away from anime/manga as a hobby, but I was bored one day and remembered that I still have a huge list of manga I was interested in reading at one point so I randomly picked Bloody Monday and gave it a go.

I ended up speeding through the entire 3 "seasons" of this series in about a week, which is pretty fast for me considering how many chapters there were.

The basic premise of Bloody Monday is that this ... high school kid named Fujimaru who seems like your average dumb perverted teen boy is actually a genius hacker, Falcon. He and his friends and family get involved in a bunch of terrorist plots, and as the series goes on the scale gets larger and more grandiose, to the point of being ridiculous at times. It's safe to say that if you're looking for a carefully crafted, well-written story line with reason and logic then Bloody Monday will probably disappoint you. I'll admit I was only looking for a fun, action-packed manga that was easy to get immersed in, and I pretty much got what I wanted. But Bloody Monday is filled with over the top contrivances and plot holes, so if that bothers you then I'd stay away from this. Overall I felt like the first season had better writing, the second season had the worst, and the last season managed to salvage what was left of the plot and tied it all into a heartwarming, albeit rushed, ending.

Personally I have hard time judging art because I'm not much of an artist myself, and I often get too immersed into the story to really pay attention to artistic details. Bloody Monday's artwork was pretty typical of shounen mangas, the action scenes were well done and the characters were all distinct. In a manga like this where deception and stealth are central to the story line, the characters' facial expressions all have to be drawn very exactly and I think the artist did a good job with that. The artist also did a good job of casting slight doubt on certain characters without making it too obvious.

Speaking of the characters, I think that's where Bloody Monday shined, with a few exceptions. Although the story was truly ridiculous at times, it was the fact that I had grown to care about the characters that made me want to read all the way to the end of the last season to find out if they all get a happy ending. The lead hero Fujimaru has a lot of typical shounen protagonist traits like a strong sense of justice, compassion for those he cares about, and determination to protect the people around him. In the beginning chapters of the first series I actually found him annoying with how trusting and naive he was, but thankfully he learns from his mistakes and you do get to see how he matures throughout the 3 seasons due to everything he experiences. His friend Otoya would probably be most people's favorite character in the series, and he was mine as well, although the enigmatic J does come close later on. As a whole, the characters were likable and easy to get attached to, although in some cases you just can't get too attached.

Unfortunately, beginning in the second season there arises a very strange, rushed, and random romance aspect that quickly becomes over the top for the nature of this series. Maybe I was reading the manga too quickly or something, but I felt like the romance really just came out of nowhere and became too deep, too fast. And I realize that the purpose of this was to give the main character an even greater motive to reach his goals and make the conclusion more satisfying, but it still felt really out of place at the end. Surely there could've been a better executed way of giving him the same amount of motivation.

Despite some problems with the story and character dynamics though, I still have to admit I thoroughly enjoyed this series, in the sense that I was really sucked into the story and couldn't stop reading. I've missed getting really caught up in a story like this, and I liked that Bloody Monday brought back that feeling.

Overall, I don't think Bloody Monday is a must-read but if you're just looking for something fun and suspenseful with lots of twists and turns to pass the time then you might enjoy this. If you're looking for something more refined and cleverly written then you will likely be disappointed with this series.

Ever watched the TV show 24? The one with Jack Bauer running across America being a double agent who stops terrorists who are gonna launch nukes or release bio weapons? This is that, but Japanese. If you have watched, and liked, 24 you will most certainly like this manga. If you haven't watched it, which I assume many of you haven't, let me explain further.
This manga focuses largely on making an intense, thrilling, situation where you have no idea what is going to happen next, who is going to be the traitor, or if the threat from the terrorists is just a bluff. ... Credit where credit is due, the person (or people, idk) who wrote this has a clear sense of how to keep a story going, even if some of the twists are out of left field. I had a hard time putting the series down, and when I had to, I picked right back up on the story whenever my schedule gave me a chance to. This is by far the strongest point of the series, even if you can see a lot of it's flaws and even if you are saying to yourself. "Come on. REALLY?" at some points, it has this sort of relentless attitude that keeps it going. Enough said about that.
I'm now going to begin to talk about some of the more negative aspects of the series. First off, the art. I will not be the first to say that the art here is not stellar. It isn't bad, just nothing that really captivated me. Most of the characters have very simplistic designs, which is ok from a writing standpoint, since the manga can take less time being drawn and more time being written (I hope that makes sense). The problem is when I can't really tell one secondary character from another without first waiting for them to be named, and this is a problem in a story where almost everyone is important in some way or another. This improves as the story progresses, and some panels near the end actually look pretty great, but getting into the series is a bit hard on the art standpoint.
The characters were fine. Not much fuss there. Most of them had one or two key personality traits, and that worked just fine since what we really care about is what they are doing rather than why they are doing. I may just be being a little too casual when saying this, and I'm sure someone who actually critiques stuff for a living could pick apart everyone in the cast as pretty 2 dimensional, but the characters served their purpose, if nothing else.
Finally, let's talk about the thing I most despised about the story: the plot twists. Not to say that the plot twists are bad, they usually aren't, but I feel a lot of them are unearned. I'm not going to fully detail any example from the series for obvious reasons, but the first "BIG" twist that is not the one which is obvious from chapter one comes out of nowhere. Minor spoiler warning due to vague-ish details about this twist. You kind of get a feeling that maybe this character is suspicious simply because you know this is a manga, but you are given no real reason to believe that further until the twist is revealed, and it is justified with two chapters of flat exposition, which is fine except that the smallest and most insignificant reasons are used to prove it, and then the MC turns out to be right about his hunch anyways and nothing is wrong with this. This problem happens again when- get this- the BIGGEST TWIST IN THE SERIES happens about 15 chapters before it ends, and there is no proper explanation as to why, even if there are clear hints towards it earlier. At least that's how I see it. I won't get into further explanations for obvious reasons, and also because this review is starting to look more like an essay.

Final thoughts: If you are willing to overlook the mediocre art, and the semi-infuriating plot problems, you have an immensely enjoyable and wildly engaging series, but otherwise this is not for you.

Sorry for the length of this, it probably isn't that helpful anyways, but I felt I needed to get all of this off my chest after my mixed emotions at the end of the series. Oh, also the third act is about as long and rushed as this last criticism. Bye.

I'm dropping this manga at chapter 9 primarily because the manga wasn't what I expected. I was under the impression it was about Bloody Monday, and not a group of teens trying to prevent Bloody Monday. It reads like a Hollywood action film as opposed to an apocalyptic disease story. It has a poor perception of how hacking works; but if you enjoy Hollywood style spy stories you'd probably enjoy this manga.

I found that it feels like the story is being made up as it goes with things not making coherent sense, for instance an antagonist says something like 'I hope he doesn't investigate ...
