Preliminary (5/20 chp)
Kanojo ni Naru Hi asks the modern question, "What would you do if somebody you knew switched genders?"

But another strikes closer to the heart, "What if that masculine, male friend that you had always relied on, that friend who would do anything to make sure/help you succeed, that friend that would hide in the background and help you ask that girl you like out--what would you do if that friend went from an alpha male to a soft-skinned, beautiful female?"

In Kanojo ni Naru Hi, the author, Akane Ogura illustrates the struggles of a young man named Miyoshi, who is conflicted as to how to ...

I've had mixed experiences reading gender-bender manga.

The better ones showed that gender is a social construct - that gender plays no role in determining who a person is or what they are capable of, and that preferences, hobbies, behavioral patterns... none of these are influenced by a person's gender, but rather by society's perception of gender and its need to assert gender roles.

The worse ones were quick to impose gender roles, swiftly establishing the Do's and Don'ts of being male or female, mercilessly confining their characters to a strict set of behaviors 'appropriate' to their respective genders.

Kanojo ni Naru Hi belongs to the latter.

Preliminary (7/20 chp)
I am not a big fan of gender benders, but Kanojo ni Naru Hi is already becoming one of my favorite manga.

Kanojo ni Naru Hi is about 2 childhood friends, Miyoshi & Mamiya. One day, Mamiya is hospitalized and goes through what is known as an emergence: the changing of genders. What will now become of the friendship between Miyoshi & Mamiya?

Unlike most gender benders, Kanojo ni Haru Hi isn't trying to go for comedy using the gender bender concept. There certainly are hilarious moments as a result of the change, but Kanojo is mainly aiming for drama. The manga explores a plethora of ...

Preliminary (Unknown/20 chp)
Well, that was an interesting manga. I went in expecting a simple shoujo story about a student who presented as male but decided not to be a male anymore and instead live her life as a woman from now on. I found this on a recommendation after reading Boku to Kanojo no XXX and I figured since I was in a little bit of a mood to read more manga, I decided to give this a shot.

I didn’t expect this to have a sci-fi angle but it’s an interesting way of doing it. Apparently, in this society, there’s a fixed amount of men and women. ...

A brief summary of my thoughts is that, Kanojo ni Naru Hi isn't bad but it's not great either. Read it if you want, just don't take it too seriously.

With that out of the way, Kanojo ni Naru Hi is a manga that, more so then any other I've read, will vary depending on what you want this manga to be. Don't get what I mean, that's fine I'll try to elaborate.

The first thing you'll notice when you approach this manga is the premise, a guy spontaneously transforms into a girl and it's out of his, or her, control. After that it follows ...

[ Contains Spoilers ] ( First Review For Manga Without Adaptation And Boy x Girl )

When I was thinking about what I should write in this review for this manga. I thought about the manga's story about how the boy became a girl and imaged myself in that scenario as the MC. Imagining my friend become a girl.. It's unimaginable in fact but it does sound quite humorous. Fun fact, just right after I finished pondering and I read the next page ( final chapter - around where their daughter grew ). The name of my "childhood" friend pops up as the name of ...

*Some spoilers, be advised*

Story: 6/10

The premise of this manga is almost irresistible for someone like me, who is part of the LGBT community. In a world where the male-female ratio is equal, when there is an imbalance, a person will ‘emerge’. That is to say, a person will change from one gender to the other, on a chromosomal level. I couldn’t wait to read this when I heard about it. I wanted to see the impact that such a change would have on psyche, but it barely delved into that aspect of the story. If you are expecting a deeply meaningful, psychological manga with ...

[Spoilers pre-ch.5]

In a world where young boys are forced to have a sex change when there's a decrease in the female population, a male highschool student named Miyoshi Kyousuke found his best friend, Mamiya Nao, had gone under this "emergence."

Sounds pretty decent, something possibly "slice-of-life" like, to deal with a theme like that. But, no, this is absolute trash. If I could give a zero rating, I would.

The story makes me so angry, I had to drop it. It's the typical back and forth of a shoujo manga, where they deny their feelings and whatnot until a good amount of chapters pass. The only good ...

This is my first time writing a review, so I apoligize if I do a poor job.
Despite that though, I have to say this is a manga I've read the entirety of, and could never find myself enjoying.
So, what is it that makes this story so awful to me? It's the complete and flagrant disrespect and ignorance towards transgender people. (please note that I myself am not trans, but as someone of the lgbt community, this still bothers me)

Story: I'm a huge fan of shoujo, and I kept seeing this manga around, so I decided to finally read it. I'll be keeping this short, ...

Usually, when it comes to gender bender stories they're preoccupied with turning back into the gender they started with, however, this felt surprisingly refreshing in how quickly the change was accepted (in a way the world they live in helped) and because of that, this felt like a trans story.

In the beginning, you can tell that this was supposed to be very short, like a few chapters at most, so there are some very small inconsistencies to the story when new elements are added, but overall it is really well done and the characters continue to be layered throughout the short 20 chapter run.

The characters ...

SPOILERS AHEAD

holy shit, this was a ride and a half. i have several questions that'll probably never be answered but here goes.

i found this manga quite problematic to read.

it kept throwing this in my face: "you see, nao used to be a guy but is now a girl" i know. i've been reading it from chapter one and you don't need to tell me that every other panel. this was probably why i couldn't think of nao as a girl in the beginning, but later you just realize love can happen without regard for gender and the manga conveyed this idea in the simplest ...

Mixed Feelings
Personally I thought the premise was quite interesting and the romance was cute at times, but there wasn't really much to take home from this story. Every chapter just seems to retread the same path each chapter, someone goes through insecurities and troubles and then the other character fixes it by reassuring them. The story and the characters are only skin deep and it's really hard to feel anything for them.

Despite my rating of 5 I don't think the story is bad, it's just very mediocre and bland. There was a lot of room for conflict and for the author to delve into the emotional ...

The story is really good. I liked the interactions between both MCs, the way they grew throughout the manga, and I also appreciate having Mamiya's point of view in some situations, even though most of the time we are in Miyoshi's head. I really liked the romance in this, but I wasn't expecting so much drama.
I'll just say this: I like the drama until the chapters 16-19, where I completely hated any drama that popped up. Those 4 chapters really annoyed me not only because of the over-the-top or unnecessary drama, but also because of the constant flashbacks and transitions. Anyways, the last chapter ...

The pacing is a little fast and choppy in some areas, and it kind of ruins the story some times, but other than that i would still recommend reading this. Unlike most gender benders this story delves deep into the relationship between the main characters. Their relationship starts very early on and the rest of the manga is about their problems and over coming them together. And I know Im repeating myself but they do go a lot farther in their relationship compared to other gender bender manga.
